One of the first beers, I tried when I got to the Northwest - wonderful hop character and wonderful mouthfeel. Go to Widmer's when in Portland - I long for a taste of the brewery. (180 characters)

Presentation: 12 oz brown long neck donning raised glass of a big “W” for Widmer three times around the bottle … fancy eh? An ink jet printed drink before date above the label for freshness purposes.

Appearance: Rich golden amber hued brew with a very sticky white lace. Slight haze though that is most likely from the amount of hops used in the beer.

Smell: Aromatic hops of floral and citrus, almost a little pungent in the nose though still soft in a way ... not coarse at all.

Taste: Very smooth mouth feel in this medium bodied ale, toasted malt flavours ride the smoothness and a pleasing oily hop flavour floats on the tongue. Malt stays sweet for a bit with bready and nutty undertones. A sufficing yet softer bitterness, mild citric and floral hop flavours hold this brew together yet does not muscle out the malt at all. Dryish finish in the end with fading malt flavours and light leafy hop of citrus and flowers.

Notes: This brew is a showpiece to its style, more hop flavour than bitterness adds to the complexities. A sheer joy to drink. (1,081 characters)

Gold pour with some light red hue to it, eggshell white head, mild hop aroma, very mild, but this stuff was back before the mega hop revolution. To call something hop jack now, wouldn't go over.

Easy going taste, appreciable hop to malt ratio, allows it to lean ever so slightly to the hoppy side, but overall, a pretty balanced pale ale, but it won't have the caramel of say, SNPA, or the crisp hopping. A little grainy at times, surprising for the lack of heft to it. Gritty. Strange how something can be relatively clean in appearance and taste, but then downbottle the mouthfeel leaves the grittiness on your teeth.

Wouldn't doubt if this is like an oast ale, with some hop oil, to keep the body a little more lively. (723 characters)

Slightly hazy light copper hue, topped by a quickly receding head that leaves sparse spots of bubbles. The aroma is comprised of a sharp, citrusy hop nose, medium caramel malt and a hint of biscuit. Moderate hop bitterness is followed by a relatively rich caramel malt presence and trace fruity esters. Fuller in body than the typical APA, w/ a dextrinous and slick mouthfeel. The hop flavor is expectedly citrusy, but isn't overbearing and complements the malt profile nicely. The finish is clean, w/ lightly buttery notes briefly lingering. Hop Jack is well balanced all around, w/ pronounced hopping and a firm malt foundation. Highly drinkable. (654 characters)

Hazy Golden color with a nice citrusy hoppy aroma and taste. Great balance with moderate bitterness. Perfect hoppiness. Medium bodied but leans towards the lighter side.

A well made APA. Could definitely drink more than my fair share of these. (250 characters)

Light yellow amber gold color, medium white foamy head. Aroma is fruity and sweet. Medium bodied Pale Ale. Malts are fruity and sweet. Hops are spicy and bitter. Nicely balanced. Smooth taste. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is crisp and clean. Aftertaste is bitter. (260 characters)

While there is virually no head retained after pouring, it leaves a foggy haze from the sediment which is pleasing to my eye. Raw hop bitterness, slight grain and citrus mixed in. Slightly dry finish. Enjoyable. (214 characters)

A very enjoyable beer, it has your typical NW characteristics. Poured with almost no head but left a nice lace and I like the cloudy look of it. As far as aroma goes I can't really say , sinus probs lol. But the faint scent I did get was rather pleasing. I've had much better pales, but also I wouldn't turn this beer down if offered...............CHEERS (357 characters)

Distinctive, custom Widmer bottle. Small head of fairly large bubbles. Very little lacing. Orange body with chill haze. Subdued mix of floral, citrus, and hint of grain in nose. Well balanced between hops and malt in taste. Hoppy aftertaste. Very well rounded. Would make good session beer. A German-style Pale Ale perhaps. Do not let the "Hops" in name mislead you. While there is a good hop prescence, it not the likes of Hop-Devil or Tuppers Hop Pocket Ale. But this is a good Pale Ale. (490 characters)

Amber color, and frothy, foamy head. Fresh and fruity nose...nectarines, peaches, melons, a big, basket of fruity goodness. Great amount of hops employed, yet still smooth and easy drinking. Excellent balance, rather sweet and delicious, mouth-watering even. Now this is what I'm talking about! Whenever I ask for a pale ale in Oregon, I expect one of these puppies in my mitts pronto! (385 characters)
