Appearance: Pours a nice gold color. Head recedes quickly, not much lacing.

Smell: Pine, citrus, you know the drill.

Taste: Pine and citrus hops pretty much dominate here, with little malt to back them up. My inner hophead likes this beer!

Mouthfeel: A bit of chalkiness mars the mouthfeel, but it's not a big deal.

Drinkability: I could easily down a few of these on a warm summer night, especially if I pretend I'm in India circa 1850.

This is a solid IPA, one that I'd drink on a regular basis if it was available to me.

Tried this on tap at the Gasthaus following the tour. It was definitely a step in the flavorful direction after the hefe and blonde.

Rather a deep golden with a slight bronze. Frothy white foam on top that does nothing to hide its whopping of C hop smells. This beer practically assults the nose with a myriad of hop aromas - grassy, citrusy, spicey, and all good. Certainly a better introduction than I remember.

The taste is also brimming with hoppy goodness. The bitterness cuts a wide berth, but there's still a nice sweet malt that creeps around the edge with more just a pale malt. There seems to be something like a munich adding to the body. However, this beer is dominated by its green, and I imagine a solid pint of this is just what the doctor would order.

I admit I'm quite surprised by this beer. My memory of it isn't as fond as this sampling. However, considering the green experience, its really seems best at just one.

Pours a nice golden yellow/orange with an average white head that fails to impress. The smell is rather light and dull. You get small traces of pine and hops but nothing over the top, not the traditional West Coast IPA, you get a slight wiff of citrus. The taste is light and malty, more like a pale ale than an IPA, sweet and robust. Feels light but is drinkable on those hot summer months. Not the style of IPA I like, I'll take extra hopped up please!

Appearance – This is a gorgeous golden-orange with a terrific head. It came up smartly, showed good retention, and left fluffy pillow pits and lacing on its way down.

Smell – This one has an impressive and enjoyable hoppy nose that is very typical of the PacNW renditions on the style. The citrus is smooth, not cutting-edge sharp, the pine is big enough to be noticed, and there’s a few other floral notes here that I can’t quite put my finger on.

Taste – Yes, this is very well-blended and put together. The lovely, soft citric character comes out nicely at the taste. The pine brings up the rear and in between is a small, malt base. There’s a touch of caramel and toffee here but mostly this one passes up on the sweets.

Mouthfeel – This was the ale’s strongpoint, IMO. It is unquestionably smooth and rightfully blended. All the flavors compliment each other serving to make this one creamy smooth IPA. The finish is dry but not shockingly so.

Drinkability – This is indeed a terrific spring time IPA and a perfect accompaniment to any rainy NW afternoon. I bet this is just killer on-tap.

Appearance does not overwhelm one as this golden color IPA poured little head, has little carbonation, and left little lacing down my pint. Smells is hops ahoy, very nice. Taste is pretty smackable, nice hop start and actually a pretty smooth finish-rather odd for an IPA. Mouthfeel is nothing impressive, kind of on the thin side. But being the IPA junkie I am I can say I have enjoyed this brew and would not mind having one in the future.

Eggshell-colored head that doesn't last long. Golden color and intense hop nose typical of the style. The taste is reminiscent of Red Hook's IPA: dry, biting, and pleasantly antiseptic. Definitely a winner on a hot day, able to cut through a dry mouth with a single swallow. There's not much here to distinguish it from other mass-produced IPAs, but I readily placed it in my "can't go wrong if it's on sale" category.

Pours an uninspiring golden color with an average white head and minimal lacing. Aroma is all hops. Flavor is full of piney and green hop notes with an underlying caramel hint, but just a hint. Mouthfeel is solid for the style and slightyl oily. Drinkability is good, however. This is a fine brew for warm evenings. Overall, though, it is average. It gets the score indicated because of my bias in favor of IPAs.

Widmer Spring Run IPA was served from a 12 oz. bottle. In a pint glass, the beer was golden, and was topped with a small white head that left nice sticky lacing. The nose had a rather mild and grassy hop profile that was backed up by sweetish maltiness. It tasted OK, with a full but soft malt backbone that presented a one dimensional but nicely done bitter finish. The flavor was well rounded and full but there wasn't much going on to keep it interesting. Also, it was unusually resiny or chalky for a lower IBU IPA. But otherwise the body was full and satisying. Not a bad brew at all, just not very inspiring.

Label has picture of people engaged in outdoor activites. What is this, Michelob Ultra? The underside of the bottle cap reads "A prost to Deadheads!" I'm sorry, but for that, I have to dock a full point off Appearance. Although it's not as bad as that Magic Hat bottle cap that read "It would be A-OK to hang with Trey!" The beer itself is a very pale gold with large puffy head. Aroma of sharp grassy hops and little else. Malt profile is very slight and is basically just an excuse to showcase the hops. They are crisp and tangy with elements of grass, pine, and lime -- but, in all, maybe a bit one-dimensional. I bought a six of this just days off the bottling line, and its crisp hoppy freshness was a delight. A week later it has already diminished.

Drank on tap at the Widmer GastHaus in Portland, OR.
(My sample was listed at 7.1% ABV, not 6.0% ABV as listed on the web page. Based on the other reviews here, I think I am probably drinking a different beer, as the beer was just labelled 'IPA'.)

Made with Pale, 20-L, 10-L, and Munich Malts; Bittered with Chinook, Centennial and Cascade hops; Aroma hops are Columbus and Cascade.
OG=14.25 degrees Plato, ABV=6.0%, 55 IBU.

Brilliantly clear, orange-golden in color forming a white head with good retention and lacing. Aroma is potent with green, oily, citric hops, a hint of toast, and fresh pale malts. Mouthfeel is dry with a medium-thin body. Taste is very pungent and green with a hint of woodiness and freshly cut hay. Finish is brisk hops with perfume and dust notes. A solid IPA.

Comes in the 12oz brown bottle the label says "Spring Run IPA"\ appearance..a nice big creamy white head which lingers for a while then fades into some nice lacing down the glass..beer is rather light colour for an IPA light yellow.
Nice strong hoppy aroma..spicy..some sweetness..lemon grass maybe.
This beer has a good fresh, sweet, crisp and hoppy test..quite "light" compared to other NW IPAs but good none -the -less.
feels very nice in the mouth not too much carbonation..good.
quite a drinkable IPA..but a tad light for the style in my opinion.

Golden in color. Not much head to speak of. Taste seems to have been made to suit the folks that are trying to venture out of the macro-swill and enter in the the microbrews. Nothing really outstanding about this IPA. However, Widmer brews tend not to anhilate the senses, but more to nurture you into enjoying microbrews.
