Appearance: Pours a deep clear copper color with amber highlights. Head is off white and about 2 fingers. Retention is pretty nice, and the lacing hangs around for the duration that the beer lasts.
Smell: First thing that can be smelled is a wave of hops and spices. There is definitely a caramel malt base underneath it, but piney hops dominate most of the smell.
Taste: Strong caramel malt base up front, with spices towards the back end and a good deal of hops at the finish. Pretty balanced, and in the end is maltier than you think it might be.
Mouthfeel/Drinkability: Medium bodied. Creamy and smooth, with very little carbonation. This is definitely not a beer that you can pound down fast. Some pretty strong flavors in this one. Overall, pretty nicely done by Widmer.
