12-oz. bottle into a pint glass at my house on Nov. 15, 2012 (purchased at BevMo in La Mesa, Calif. (San Diego) for $13.99 as part of a 12-pack on Nov. 15, 2012). Dark caramel amber with 1 ½ fingers of off white head. Very good foamy white retention on the sides and decent on the top.

Smelled a surprising healthy dose of sweet rye hops up front. Reminded me of sugary iced tea. Also some dark fruits. Smelled lots of malts and some caramel hops.. A little bit of grape juice, too.

Tasted a lot like the smell, but with maltiness ruling the world. Still got the rye hops and iced tea taste like the smell. Sugary malts. Some piny hops with a bit of grapefruit.

Medium body. Thinner texture. Lively (above average) carbonation. Astringent oily bitter finish.

I kind of liked this beer overall. Nice mixture of different flavors. Got the amber, pale ale and IPA feel.

reading the previous reviews, i feel they really keyed in on describing this brew nicely.
"tea colored" is a perfect description of the color with an "oatmeal colored" layer of foam on top.
pine-y, citrus-y smell with a matching flavor. some malty "biscuit" is perfect in comparing the balance of tastes.
medium feel, and i get what the others said with 'buttery' and 'oily' in their reviews.
overall, i can handle this stuff nicely. the 7.2% is a surprise and the alcohol is well hidden. the pine-y-ness isnt over bearing and seems fitting for the season coming up. this one has enough depth and substance to allow more research...

Beautiful burnt Orange glow with good clarity and about an inch of sticky holiday white head. Reasonably piney and grapefruity nose. Fainted toasted biscuity malts, with toffee and butter.

Buttery mouthfeel, rich with toffee and toast flavor malts, rising bitterness to a crisp finish. Long lasting buttery and hoppy flavors linger. Bitterness is actually higher than expected for a winter warmer but I welcome. Overall nicely done with good simple flavors that cascade well over the tongue. Not a touch of detectable alcohol as well.

Found at Pies & Pints in Middlebury, CT this seasonal brew is a tea
leaning amber color with a very nice 2-finger-ish light oat colored head and
plentiful lacing. The nose hit includes piney hops blended tastefully with lemon
yeast and light cereal grain. Very pleasing. The flavor comes out with more
hops, a tad more grassy pine with a bit of a spruce/herbal quality with caramel
malt lingering in the background. This seems like a decent DIPA to me, with a
likeable, medium body, medium carbonation and slightly oily feel, though not to
the point of hurting the drinkability. A very nice surprise!

Poured a nice reddish amber with a thick white head.

Has a light pine nose with a light bit of mustiness.

The flavor is very malty up front with a rye spiciness and a bit of bread. Has a dry medicinal hop bitterness. Very balanced overall.

The mouthfeel is dry With just a touch of lingering hop oil.

Not to bad. Its like an imperial amber ale.

This years release continues the excellence of this well-balanced winter warmer. Perfect bitter / malt balance. Exceptionally smooth to drink. Just the right amount of 'warmth'.

Currently available at only $5.99 per 6-pack (Bi-Mart in Oregon). Who could ask for more?

I love the other widely available Oregon produced winter warmer too (Deschutes Jubelale)....but at this price point - just wow.

The beer poured a clear medium amber gold and produced a creamy beige head about one and a half fingers high. Great retention and good lacing.
The smell is fruity, some peach and citrus flavors, caramel and some pine.
Tasting this outstanding beer, the pine flavors dominate the front, being mildewed by some more fruity tones like mentioned above. Great hop balance! The malt backbone in itself is balanced and not taking over the palette. This is a surprise beer, better than I ever expected! Very smooth finish, great mouthfeel!
Definetely will buy this one again! Great beer!
