Polished copper pour with a one finger head that faded to a ring rather quickly. Some lacing left behind.
Big citrus hoppiness on the nose. Hard tack candy come to mind.
Bites of orange, sour grapefruit seem to dominate this one. Decent malt backing, but seems to be left behind. Bitter eges burn on the tongue.
Feel is average. Not bad at all.

A- Dark Golden colored ale. Good lacing, very dainty.

S- Hoppy in smell, very grapefruity in smell.

T- The taste is that of an IPA, only more on the malty side. Sort of a caramel taste.

M- Good mouthfeel to say the least.

D- Easy to drink, very tasty.

Drifter is a clear orange amber with a thick... froth is a good word considering it looks like a bad cappaccino. It has a fairly nice floral hop aroma. A good spicey hop taste is quickly muted by the malts. It's a slightly watery taste but it is smooth and fairly balanced. Easy drinking but almost too much.

This is definitely good for a summer night but the taste was a little too muted for me. I'll have to try it on tap sometime if I see it.

I poured a 12 oz bottle into a glass mug...

The liquid was an amber, copper color with a filmy, eggshell colored head that hugged the glass. The smell is mostly lemon, pepper and tabacco. It tastes just slightly bitter with some spicy, lemony hop accents. There is a hint of bubblegum and a bready finish. Feels pretty light and watery with lots of carbonation. This is a pretty average pale ale, still enjoyable though and I would drink it again.

22oz glass of dark red goodness. Almost no head but a good ring around the glass makes me think it was just the pour. The aroma has a solid amount of caramel and sourdough but that is dominated by a large amount of orange citrus and grapefruit. I was expecting more malt in the flavor but I was overwhelmed with fruity hop flavors. A ton of grapefruit and orange, like the nose, but with a tasty combination of malt and hops that is fruity, tangy and sweet. This went down very smooth because of how tasty it was. Medium/light body with a juicy, thirst quenching finish.

12 ounce bottle. Per the label, bottled on 05-20-2009. Neat old school label. The label makes me wanna go to the Pacific Northwest and fish or something.

Poued into my tulip, a clear, medium brown with blonde highlights. Average tan head with average retention.

Smells like your average pale ale. Light to moderate pale malts with a light citrus tinge.

Slightly watery mouthfeel echoing the nose in flavor. Surprisingly low carbonation.

Average.

1 of 3 in my tour of portland reviews.
Date on bottle: Sept 7th, 2011

A- Pours a slightly hazed orange/red body. No sediment is present. The tan head starts as 1 finger and recedes to a 1/4 inch cap. Sparse lacing is present.

S- Nice big aroma. Grapefruit, pine, a bit of orange marmalade. Good hop aroma.

T- Starts out with a very herbal/medicinal hoppiness. The finish is herbal and has a very medicinal/alcohol finish. I'm searching hard for a description but the finish is almost gin-like (herbacious and boozy).

M- Appropriate carbonation, a thinner body for the ABV.

D- Overall, a drinkable Pale Ale I can see going well with food. I'd like to have this again, definitely with a fresh bottle (maybe in portland).

Bottle smell nice and hoppy. Smells like tangy citrus, grapefruit on top of a nice malty base. Pours to a translucent pale golden brown with a nice head. Taste is also good and hoppy with a nice hop bite. The hop bite is more sweet that bitter, almost floral like a chardonnay wine, or dandelions, quite different. Mouthfeel is good and carbonated but not overly so. Over all a very good beer al the way around, excepting for the rare hopping, just not bitter enough for my tastes.

Appearance:
Deep amber color, hazy. Few little bubbles. Small head.

Aroma:
Piney and citrus hops. Sweet malts. Very crisp smelling.

Taste:
Balance from hops and malts. Hop character is a little more milder than most American Pale Ale I had, I’m getting piney and citrus, maybe a little grassy. Nice malt background, sweet, bready, caramel-toffee, just a touch of butter (almost English like malts). There some fruitness from the yeast. Body is dry, a little crisp. Carbonation is mild.

Finish:
Sweet and dry finish. A little crisp. Dry aftertaste.

Overall:
It’s pretty good for American Pale Ale.

poured a copper color with excellent clarity, a finger of even head never quite disappeared and left some sticky lace

real refreshing nose on this one. strong sharp citrus and pine, a bit floral as well. sweet malt occupies the background. IPAish

taste is an extension of the nose...which is a good thing. spicey pine and citrus. a nice malty finish

mouthfeel is a crisp and clean, quite a bit of carbonation, somewhat dry and sticky aftertaste. a bit more body would have made it excellent for it was a bit light

a very drinkable beer. i think this is by far the best selection from widmer brothers.
