12 oz bottle poured into a tulip glass. A light tan head stands a half inch above the surface, then drops down to a lacy cap. Lacing paints the walls of the glass as the the head recedes. The body color is a solid dark brown, nearly black, with dark mahogany highlights around the edges. It looks exactly like a stout.
The smell is a great big dose of Cascade hops, which breaks the deception of the eyes. This is an IPA, no matter that your eyes say stout. Taste also confirms the IPA status. West Coast Cascade hops are predominant. It is piney, with a resinous finish. Malts are subtle, keeping balance but letting the hops take charge.
The mouthfeel has a solid medium body. It is slightly creamy and oily. The hop oils leave a slick after feel. It is not unpleasing, but odd.
