Pours a crystal clear orange/light copper color with a decent slightly off white head that leaves nice lacing.
Nose has a nice piney citrusy hop profile, but it does seem slightly muted. This bottle is about two months old (and its widmer) so that doesn't suprise me too much.
Actually, this is still a pretty nice DIPA! Suprisingly good, and far beyond widmer's usual standards. It has retained its hop profile pretty well. Flavor is very citrusy, more SD style than PNW, but does display attributes of both. The hop profile is much more citrusy than your average more floral PNW IPA. The malt profile REALLY reminds me of 90 minute. That being said the hop profile is quite different. Still has nice bitterness on the finish despite its age, and has accurate dryness.
Mouthfeel is pretty much right where it should be. Carbonation is ideal and viscosity if anything is the slightest bit thick. Great dryness.
Drinkability is also pretty solid. The 8%abv helps with that, and makes for a nice beer without being too hot, could probably do a sixer of these if i had the energy.
Overall, a suprisingly good beer from what is usually a mediocre mAIcro brewery. Between this and the '10 black IPA, widmer has stepped up their game in the first part of this new decade. A good beer.

From notes, 7/11/11. Nelson IIPA version. Appearance is fine. Mildly cloudy, bright orange. A dissipating head that stuck around for awhile as a thin film of bubbles. The aroma is grassy with tropical fruits - more kiwi/papaya than pineapple, like some hops. A bit grapey, too. Not quite strong enough for my taste but pretty good. On the palate, it starts out with some hop resin flavor with an alright crystal malt backbone, but the finish mars things with a big booze note that goes particularly poorly with the grassy bitterness. Mouthfeel is, well, hot. Plus, the beer is a bit sticky. Didn’t much like this one, despite the hop choice.
