Bottled on August 12 2012. Poured into a nonic a dull light to medium golden with a thinner white head atop. The grapefruit rind comes through in the nose along with tropical fruitiness from the hops, not much malt except for a little dryer crispness. The grapefruit again plays a large on the palate with some stone fruit and a tinge of sweet alcohol, the malt base is somewhat dry and crisp.A solid offering here,it makes since to put grapefruit rind in an American IPA,it enhances the hop flavors.

12oz brown bottle with a freshness date.

LOOK: Clear pale amber golden hue, two fingers of froth

SMELL: Freshly macerated grapefruit, stodgy floral note, green peppercorn, white tea, nutty grain

TASTE: Slightly smooth, creamy, medium bodied, semi-pungent, bitter, very juicy, clean graininess, grapefruit rind, hint of alcohol, grassy, citrus pith and peel, dry pulling finish

Getting a little extreme here with the addition of grapefruit peels, good use of the fruit from start to finish. Very refreshing, perfect for the summer.

12 ounce bottle. Jun 20 12 on the front label, bottling date?
Pours clear lighter almond amber. The head is light tan loose and lasting. Leaves respectable thicker lacing.

Grapefruit and hop resins on the nose. Moderatly pungent.

The grapefruit theme continues onto the palate providing bright citric flavors and biting dryness. Nice IPA especially if you are like me and love a grapefruit forward attitude in your AIPAs.

Serving glass: Poured from bottle into Imperial Pint.

Appearance: Rich gold with thin white cap and minor lacing.

Smell: Grapefruit, pine and spice from the hops. Just a touch of toasted malt. Sweet, spicy and a little tart.

Taste: Doesn't seem as hoppy as the aroma, as the toasted malts are more apparent. Grapefruit is also fairly apparent as expected, but not quite as fresh or tart as expected. Light pine and spiciness. Somewhat bitter.

Feel: Creamy and dry but a trifle thin. Moderate carbonation.

Overall: Decent IPA, but the taste is simply not quite as rich as I hoped for. Nice IPA on a hot day.

On tap at the crappy Reno Blues & Brews festival. Aside from Lagunitas offerings and this beer, it was an underwhelming festival.

Pours a copper color, 1" white head, decent lace on the plastic cup they give you. Nice aroma of grapefruit and hops.

Taste, mmm, the grapefruit is there, but soft, like pink grapefruit with a tiny bit of sugar to take the bitter sting away. Still plenty of bitterness. Just like the X-114 otherwise.

I had this a month or so later, and man, it was a shell of its former self. Its a bummer so many places have old ass Widmer ipa's on the shelf, because they are really good when fresh. For instance, its the end of September right now. My local Safeway has Spiced IPA from Widmer in its cooler, born on date, Jan 7, 2012. Ugh.

Medium sized white head sits above a rich yellow golden colored beer.

Citrus fruits like grapefruits dominate a pretty nice hops aroma.

A dry citrus hops with light pine taste, with a very light grassy note.

A citrus filled dry to bitter dry aftertaste on this medium bodied IPA.

A decent drink, I could drink a bunch of these, but I also think I would have to mix it up with a glass of ice water or two.

From the freshness dated 12 oz bottle into a standard pint glass produces an extremely clear amber body with a thin cap of foam, lively carbonation creates trails of small bubbles rising, there is some lacing too, pretty nice.
Aroma is grapefruit forward (no surprise there) some floral hop presence along with a slight wet grass.
Taste is all about the grapefruit here bitter/clean with very little malt sweetness, reminds me of a vodka greyhound with only half the vodka.Refreshing nonetheless and enjoyable, slight biscuit on the end.
Simple, yet just right to quench a thirst.

Appearance - Pours a semi-hazy golden color with a good finger's worth of head, average retention, and resulting lace that's thin but sticky.

Smell - A nice grapefruit aroma. Sweet. Ruby-reddish.

Taste - Predominately grapefruit. A solid bready malt character gives this a steady backbone, but doesn't detract from what this beer is about, which is all grapefruit.

Mouthfeel - Medium body. Carbonation lends to a nice bit on the lips and tongue. Goes down fairly smooth.

Overall - Yes! There it is, Widmer Rotator series! Finally! Loads better than it's Rotator counterparts. O'Ryely and Spiced IPA were horrendous. The X-114 was average. This one delivers. I was hesitant to try another in the Rotator series... now I've only got one to go, the Falconer, and I shall do so without the fear that was instilled within me by the O'Ryely and Spiced IPA.

On tap at Sawmill Tap Room on 8/15/12.

A - bright orange with a soft, white head that has good retention

S - huge grapefruit aromas, very faint malt

T - grapefruit, light malt, very faint pine

M - medium bodied, well carbonated, smooth

This is a solid, very drinkable beer, but it's simple and one-dimensional. The grapefruit-citrus notes are all that this has to offer. It wasn't bad, but in the end I wouldn't want more than one.

Brewed with grapefruit peels, this IPA pours a clean light amber, with a pleasant 2-finger head and neat loopy lace on the glass.

The nose? I get, not surprisingly, bitter grapefruit, and the taste is quite similar. It's dry, but even with the grapefruit infusion and the hops, Widmer have balanced this well with malts. I enjoyed this one.

Pours a clear golden with a light apparent carbonation. A forced pour does yield a decent cap but it is short lived and light in nature. Light carbonation deters a bit through the pint.

Clean citrus hop aroma though not getting much of the grapefruit other than through the foam which unfortunately doesn't stick around too well. Pure citrus though with no real resinous aspect to the aroma and flavor. Offers a light bitterness and very pale malt body and seems a slight bit spicier on the finish and aroma than the X-114.

Overall an easy drinking summer IPA.
