Poured from a date-stamped bottle: clear, copper with a slowly receding, foamy white-head.
A fresh burst of tropical fruit aroma greeted my olfactory upon opening the bottle. This alchemy hop is very similar to the citra hop. The aroma settled down after the pour and highlights some of the sweet malt.
The hop is the highlight with this ale; not that it is very bitter, but the citrusy alchemy hop shines through with more of the spicy malt evident as the ale warms. While this ale is refreshing, an increased hop profile would have made this one much better. The bittersweet hop mixes with the malt to give the ale a faint candy sweetness.
A very smooth mouthfeel leads to a rather thin body with moderate carbonation. The flavor profile is short-lived on the palate.
Like Widmer's Drifter pale ale, this one is flavorful, refreshing and approachable.
