Nice barely-hazy apricot color with 1-finger head that fades slowly to a thick lasting ring. Drops a boatload of quality lace. Smells of candied orange, peach, honey, and a little vanilla. More citrus than I was expecting.

Flavor is the same, but the white wine descriptor of Nelson Sauvin definitely comes through more than in the aroma. Despite the honey flavor, the beer remains moderately dry. Finishes nicely on the bitter side. It doesn't seem like Nelson lives up to its namesake though. There's much more traditional Pacific NW citrus here than the NZ character I was expecting.

Mouthfeel is medium an carbonation is just below that. Solid body, but no brick house. This is the first Widmer product I've had that is above mediocre. It's pretty damn good actually, but it lacks inividuality. The flavor and aroma are dominated by C-hop character, which is not a problem in and of itself. But when I'm specifically looking for something different (like a beer that implies it is Nelson-centric), the "Same Old DIPA" just doesn't cut it.

12 oz bottle was poured into a snifter.

Appearance: A one finger head was poured that reduced to a thin layer. It is a slightly hazy pale orange color with good vision of bubbles coming up through the glass. Nice lacing down the glass as the beer was drank.

Smell: Citrus, floral, herbal, tropical, grassy, and caramel.

Taste: Same as above with mild hop bitterness.

Mouthfeel: Smooth, medium bodied, a little booze, medium carbonation, and some malty sweetness.

Overall: This mixture of hops are awesome. Tropical, herbal, and citrus. Alcohol is hidden well too.

A: Dull amber with a frothy off-white head.

S: Loads of tropical fruit.

T: Big, welcoming tropical fruit and orange peel. Very sharp. Let's allow it to warm up. A suggestion of tea-leaves. Lovely level of sweetness, which is why it's a bit sticky. It's got that strong alcoholic syrupy quality, like a barley wine. Has a nice bitter backbone and while there's enough malt to carry the hops there's no particular malt character.

M: Right amount of carbonation.

O: A very generic tasting American IPA and certainly not the best example I've had. With these fruit bombs I tend to be blown away by the first few glugs and desperately bored by the last few. Overall, a little bit two dimensional but I enjoyed drinking it none the less.
