Bottle poured into pint glass

A... clear copper color with 1" off white head. Very nice, sticky lacing on the glass.

S...VERY floral. Lots of sweet citrus with a little bif of pine behind it. Smells delicious.

T...Wow. hoppy bitterness right up front. Nicely complex, lots of flavors going on here. There is a nice fruity taste and the bitterness gives it a clean finish. A little sweet for an IPA.

M...perfect carbonation. Very nice, lighter bodied feel to it. I could easily drink a couple too many of these on a Summer evening.

O...Surprisingly good. I have really liked some of Widmers rotator IPA's. Killer deal too $14/12 pack. This is a nice beer. A little sweeter than the Rotator Shaddock IPA. Pick some up. (721 characters)

A-Muddied burnt orange...

S-Terrific...toasted breads and warm biscuit like maltiness....hops are very interesting...not sure what is used but I'm getting fresh pine combined with a sweet tropical style fruitiness....mangos...papaya...pineapple..

T-I think the malt really makes this beer but what an interesting hop flavor...not sure I've had many I can compare it to. This has some bitterness but the flavor profile really impresses me more so.

M-Medium bodied...never would have guessed 7%..drinks more like a pale ale loaded with flavor.

O-I've had two bottles of this. The first one I thought this was off the charts good and was saving this second bottle to review. My first impression was a bit better but this is definitely a tasty beer I would rate as an upper tier IPA (782 characters)

Smell out of the bottle is lemony hops, with grass and pine.

Color is nice - a vibrant brownish-orange.

A little head forms on its own, even when poured gently.

Smell out of glass is of straight oranges, with a little sweet tinge. Pleasant...

First taste is hops, of course, with a touch of sweetness. Orange notes.

Second taste bring bitterness noted at roof of mouth.

Feel is smooth and frothy.

Lacing is persistent and holds even from the top of the glass as you drink it down.

Bitterness does not overpower in the aftertaste or as you drink into the beer.

Nice American IPA, for sure. (597 characters)

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Samuel Adams Boston Lager glass. Taken from a Widmer Bros. variety pack.

Appearance: Pours a clear, amber-brown color. Has a large, frothy head that dissipates quickly and leaves some decent lacing.

Smell: Smells strongly of nice hoppy aromas. Citrus, grapefruit, and even a little bit of peach come out nicely in the aroma. Has a sweet, caramel malt smell as well.

Taste: Tastes moderately bitter (by IPA standards) with a strong caramel malt backbone. The hops have a crisp, citrus and grass flavor. Very nice.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied with a nice carbonation.

Overall: I was very pleasantly surprised by this IPA. It's definitely better than your average variety pack IPA. I haven't always been impressed by Widmer Bros., but the beers I've had from them recently might make me give them a second look. (845 characters)

A- Clear reddish copper body with a nice off-white yellow head. Head dissipated slightly. Nice looking.

A- Wow, that smells balanced. I get a nice amount of perfumey hop aroma mixed well with grapefruit. Sweet malt backing, but not too in your face in either aspect. There is something a bit more to the malt that lends a bready aroma.

T- Instant bitterness. A nice hoppy bitter flavor leaning on the more bitter side. Nice sweet malty flavor. Finishes spicy and dry. Left a sweet, bitter aftertaste. Slightly phenolic, but very faint.

M- Medium body with moderate carbonation.

D- This is delicious. I wish I had tried out Falconer's Flight hops sooner. (657 characters)

Bottled on November 20, 2012, so about 4 months have passed since, and this bottle has made it across the Atlantic to Denmark.

Appearance: Pours a chill hazed dark copper/amber color with almost non-existent head.

Aroma: Prominent aroma of sweet, red berries and caramelt malts. Also has an earthiness to it. This is so delicious you want four lungs to take a double sniff!

Taste: Very balanced malt and hop bitterness. Aftertaste is incredibly clean for an IPA. Depending on what you like, this is either good or bad. For me, it works very well.

Mouthfeel: Low on carbonation, but I feel that it is appropriate for style. Clean aftertaste and low to medium body. (667 characters)

look: 3.75 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 4

Appearance: Light amber, brown with minimal carbonation and little to no head.

Smell: This is my favorite part of the beer. Sweet flowers, citrus, hops, and maybe even a slight hint of candied cherry. Smell is absolutely wonderful

Taste: At first it was not quite what I was hoping for. More bitter than the smell let on, but still had the florals and citrus. As it has warmed, however, it has become more and more delicious. I have even found myself increasing the "taste" rating two times as I have been typing. Warms into a sweet, very slightly bitter, and candied citrus brew.

Mouthfeel: Lightly carbonated. Leaves the classic bitter twinge at the front of the tongue, in a good way, and leaves a thin, but pleasant, residue in the mouth upon the swallow.

Overall: This brew is a great, let me repeat, great, bang for the buck. At 7% abv and under $8 for a six pack, this is a great buy. Let it warm a bit before drinking and you will find a new go-to beer, imo. Great purchase. (987 characters)

Appearance: (3.5)
- Pours a clean and clear copper color. Thick slightly off-white head.. very creamy and settled slowly to a thin blanket that seems to be sticking around. Large ring of suds sticking around the glass. A bit dark, but overall a good looking beer.

Smell: (4.0)
- This beer smells quite good. Lovely crisp NW hop aromas. Quite pine-like, and zesty bitter. Smells like a slightly sweet and bready malt backbone. Light caramel, and light honey. The smell of fresh grassy hops certainly shine through.

Taste: (4.5)
- Very light malt flavors received from what I was expecting via the color and smell of the brew. Bready light caramel, slightly sweet, but not overly sweet. The bitter pine and grassy hops shine and balance this IPA out very well. The hops also seem to have a creeper effect via the palate. Great zesty and spicy hops with a zing of fruity character which isn't found in the smell so much. Overall super balanced, and has some very great flavors hidden within.

Mouth Feel: (3.5)
- Light to medium bodied, and slightly watery up front, but the finish hits late with a drying and slightly cloying hop punch. Very interesting character and feel to this beer. It is bubbly, sparkling almost.. well carbonated. Just a touch thin.

Overall: (4.0)
- It's too difficult to compare this IPA to the previous X-114 in the series. It is a completely different IPA. I must say that I love the hops in this beer. I think I am a new fan of this Falconer's hop. The classic fresh quality is quite striking for me, and the beer is superbly balanced. Go grab it! I think I dig it more than the X-114. Will be interesting to compare my score and see it be less than the X-114 review of mine. (1,705 characters)

Poured from a 12oz bottle into my Dogfish Head shaped pint glass. Bottled October 24th, 2012.

Nearly clear safety orange with tangerine highlights and a fat finger of off-white foam up top. Thick even soapy lacing, good retention.

Faintly floral aroma suggesting orange blossom and a hint of lavender. Gentle biscuity backbone from the malt as well...

Moderately bitter throughout and full of hop flavor - bright citrus and mango flavors pulsate at the high points along a wave of earthy/spicy/pine-infused/faintly catty NW-hop tastes. Some grapefruit, pineapple, and passion-fruit peak out from time to time as well - the former growing stronger in the finish. Quite a blend! The straight forward clean malt provides a pleasing though delicate contrast, mainly serving as a well crafted canvas for the hops to paint themselves across. Finishes fairly dry, though the fruit continues to evolve for quite some time. Malt (two-row and a touch of crystal?) actually becomes slightly more prominent as the ale warms, further emphasizing the NW origin.

Creamy, medium-light bodied with a bite.

A nice show-case for the Falconer's Flight pellet hop blend (Citra, Simcoe, and tons of NW varieties from what I hear)...though mainly this makes me want to pick up some super-fresh to toss into a home-brew. (1,302 characters)

poured from the bottle into a pint glass

A - Pours a slightly hazy dark copper with plenty of carbonation rising to the creamy, off-white, 2-finger head. Head stays intact all the way down the glass. Leaves behind several thick, parallel rings of lacing to form almost a wall.

S -Nice nose of piny and citrus hops on a caramel malt background. Diminished significantly while in the glass.

T - Caramel malt upfront. The body is a solid balance of grapefruit and piney hops on a firm caramel malt backbone. More citrus notes come through as the beer passes over the back of the tongue with passion flavors joining. The finish is a mixture of pine resin and citrus fruits.

M - Medium bodied with a fair amount carbonation and chewiness. Quite good for the style.

Falconer's IPA is my favorite rotator IPA I have tried yet and finally makes the leap from a very good beer to an excellent one. The flavors are straight ahead classic IPA with no gimmicks or surprises, but everything is well balanced and aided by a substantially chewy mouthfeel. The relatively high ABV and $6.50 a six price here in Socorro are just icing on the cake. I wish I had bought a couple more sixes of this while it was around (I think it was this past August (?)). (1,245 characters)

The newest entry in Widmer's Rotator IPA, this one is brewed with the new Falconer's Flight variety of hop. Poured from the 12oz bottle into a tulip glass. Body is a deep golden-amber color topped by a couple of fingers of creamy off-white head that quickly settles down to a thin ring, leaving a minimal amount of lacing on the glass.
Aroma of grapefruit and a touch of honey sweetness, along with some grassy notes. Palate is big on grapefruit and grassy hops up front, balanced slightly by a mild honey sweetness from the pale malt. A slightly syrupy character in the body carries the assertive hop profile very well and lends a bit of stickiness. Finish is a bit harsh, quite bitter and sharp. That's how I like an IPA, though, so in my mind this is fantastic.
A big, aggressively-hopped West Coast IPA that doesn't pull punches. If this is the hallmark of the new Falconer's Flight hop, then I want more beer made with it immediately. Good stuff. (955 characters)

A - Drank this out of the bottle but looking at other reviews it has a hazy dark amber color with an orange tint. Lacing sticky head.
S - Smells of strong herbal and piney hops with a decent sweet balance.
T - Kind of aggressive bitterness for the first few sips, then it somehow grew on me and I enjoyed every sip afterward. The clash between herbal bittering hops and semi sweet cracker malts was very tasty.
M - Medium in body somewhat sticky with a crisp finish.

Overall far from my favorite IPA but this one won me over with drink ability considering I wanted a six pack after finishing my single. Well worth the mixed six price of 10 bucks for the pack. Give it a try it's better than I thought it would be. (714 characters)

Really solid, good bear overall. Another solid one from Widmer. I didn't have very high expectations for this company, but almost everything I have had from them is actually really solid. Good head and lacing. Nice dark amber hue. Main smell I get is grapefruit, hop oil, and earthy tones. Great hoppy taste. Very fresh tasting. My bottle was dated Aug. 17 11, but tasted very fresh to me. Mouthfeel and carbonation are quite good. A bit thin, but the carbonation helps quite a lot. Very drinkable for 7.0%. Overall, I think it's a great deal at 7.99 a six pack. (562 characters)

12oz bottle purchased at Shaw's in North Hampton. Pours a crystal clear dark amber body with a half inch or so of off-white head. Smells fruity and malty. Pulpy piney hops share the flavor pretty equally with caramel and toffee like malt flavors. Medium in body and carbonation. Pretty good overall, though not quite as hop-forward as expected. (344 characters)

Into the standard pint glass results in a slightly hazy body with a nice fluffy half inch head that clings to the glass, nice. The aroma is fruit forward, I get pineapple, Kiwi, ripe peach and floral hops. Taste is on the sweet side of the IPA spectrum, malt, honey, biscuit. Carbonation is just right with a nice cascade of bubbles throughout the glass.
Wow, I didn't know Widmer had this in them! And it's a bargain to boot! Going to go down to the market and snag some more of this pronto! Well done. (504 characters)

Hazed caramel toned body. Thin beige head leaves adequate lace. Nice aroma of pine, citrus and resin. Light caramel malt aroma. Flavor is unique and hard to describe. Piney and minty mostly with some zesty lemon as well. Spruce tips come to mind. Moderate carbonation with a medium-full body. Solid effort, but I like the X114 better myself. (341 characters)

copper colored body, almost clear. 2-finger frothy white head.

Smells of apricot, mango, lemon rind and tangerine wrapped up in a bread bowl.

Tastes of tangerine, lemon rind, toast bread, corn husk and nickel. Decent bitterness.

Medium body, medium mouthfeel. Smooth feel.

Surprisingly tasty with a bitterness level that i would have thought Widmer would stay away from. Not bad at all. (390 characters)

This beer poured out with a rich looking amber body and a nice sticky off white colored head. The lacing is very nice on this beer. The retention is pretty good too. The smell it toasted with some sweet caramel and piney hops on the nose. The taste has a solid bitterness to it with a soft malt sweetness in there also. The mouthfeel of the beer is medium bodied and has a good amount of carbonation to it. Overall I think it's pretty good IPA, I would suggest it to others. (474 characters)

A medium to big off white head rest above a clear above a clear bright copper colored beer that has a ring of haze about 3/4 inch below the head.

A big citrus, piney, floral hops aroma, makes me happy I poured this from above the glass a bit to give it a bigger head and release more of the hops characteristics in the aroma.

Citrus and floral hops with some pine coming through, not as bold as the aroma, and just enough to give this a dryish lightly bitter hops taste.

A dryish aftertaste with some bitterness and hops taste lasting on with this medium bodied IPA.

As this beer sits the aroma pretty much dies off, I suggest pouring it big to release the big hops aromas hiding within. The first half of the glass seemed to taste better because of the big release of aroma, just saying. (792 characters)

A - Poured out a clear, golden amber color with a one-finger, khaki colored head of foam. It left some sudsy rings of lace on the glass.

S - It smelled grassy and piney with some toasty notes.

T - It tasted very toasty with some sweet citrusy flavors. Nice piney bitterness.

M - It was crisp, sharp and smooth. A medium bodied ale with a dry finish.

O - This is a good IPA. I like the Rotator series from Widmer Bros. (421 characters)

Beer pours a bright copper color, slightly cloudy and a small foamy head. Aroma is right on: caramel malts with apricot, vanilla and bread. A wonderful sticky mouth-feel - lots of body. Moderate carbonation. Sweet like an imperial. Hops like grapefruit. Very bitter finish. This is a bid IPA. Very satisfying. Everything one looks for in an IPA is here. Might be the best Widmer brew I have tried to date. (405 characters)

Appearance - Pours a clear, brilliant orange amber with an off-white, near 2 finger head. Decent retention. The resulting lace is thin, but consistent and somewhat sticky.

Smell - Notes of citrus and stonefruit; somewhere between peach and apricot. A bready malt aroma can be found sitting beneath.

Taste - Starts fruity and citric, mixing it up nicely with a lightly toasted, bready malt backbone. Bitterness creeps in about midtaste, then finishes with strong bitter orange pith that rings true well into the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with some lively carbonation. Bites quick, then smooths out.

Overall - When I first had the O'Ryely and Spiced IPA, I thought Widmer had no clue in what they were doing with these Rotator IPA's - the Shaddock and Falconer's IPA has proven otherwise. This is a damn solid IPA. Reminds me of Stone's IPA. (857 characters)

Clear bronze colored ale with a tall tan colored head.

Smells strongly of both hops and malt. Toffee candy smothered by a pile of hops. Hop scents of pine cone, grapefruit and orange candy slices. Lesser scents of Spearmint and tea, reminds me of Snapple.

Starts out dry and very hoppy with a melon aftertaste. Strong grapefruit flavor with wood and tea. Settles down to dry with lots of black tea flavor.

Mouthfeel is good.

Tasty yet on the verge of harsh. Good yet not great. (481 characters)

Half finger head on a clear amber with crimson hues body. Excellent lacing. Aroma is mild with some grapefruit and mild earthy notes but overall very mild. Pours a brilliant copper color with a solid one inch eggy head that slowly dissipates, leaving sheets of lacing.

Caramel malt aroma mingles with grapefruit pith, earthy hops (smells like peas), dankness, and a bready chewiness. Pretty sure it's dry hopped with amarillo.

Flavor is less characterful, with bittering hops taking center stage, and a lackluster showing from citrus flavoring hops. There's a hint of grapefruit and pine, along with some resinous hop character to provide intrigue to the bready malt backbone. The finish is fairly peppery.

Body is moderate, with moderate carbonation and a slightly dry finish.

Overall, a modest ipa, fairly malt centric with some yummy hop character. Nice citrus and resin. (722 characters)
