5.8% ABV confirmed. 12 fl oz brown glass bottle with standard pressure cap served into a nonical pint glass in me gaff in high altitude Castle Rock, Colorado. Reviewed live. Expectations are below average given the brewery and the fact that it's gluten free.

Served straight from the refrigerator Side-poured with standard vigor as no carbonation issues are anticipated.

A: Pours a two finger thin head of no cream but of average retention. Body colour is a clear pale copper. No yeast particles are visible. No bubble show.

Sm: Floral hops, biscuit malt, and light toasted malt. Very simple. An average strength arma.

T: Clean malts, floral hops, and clean barley. Brutally simple and not all that effective. Balanced, but there isn't much to balance. Lacks flavour. Bland and boring.

Mf: Predictably smooth and wet, with generic thickness and slight overcarbonation. Doesn't complement the flavour profile all that well.

Dr: Drinkable but underwhelming. A middling pedestrian effort from Widmer, but then I've come to expect that. Hides its ABV well. Meh. For a gluten beer, it could be worse.

Truncated additional notes as of 09/13/13:

A: Decent head. 3-4 fingers wide. Beige colour. Decent creaminess/thickness.

Body colour is a clear copper of average vibrance. No yeast particles are visible. No bubble show. Translucent. Transparent.

Sm: Pale malts. Pilsner malts. Clean barley. Minimal floral hop character. No yeast/alcohol is detectable. Below average strength.

T: Pale malts. Caramalt. Pilsner malts. Floral hops.

Mf: Smooth and wet. Slightly overcarbonated.

Dr: Drinkable but pedestrian. Wouldn't buy again. Decent for a gluten-free beer.

Low C

A- Clear amber, a hint of orange. Head is one and a half fingers thick. Decent retention and a wisp of lacing.
S- Aroma is not all that great. Grainy, a bit of malt, and faint fruity hops.
T- Thin malts. There is some grainy note and just a bit of citrus hops. Very mellow and not much flavor to it.
M- Light, thin body. Carbonation is aggressive.
O- Eh, it's an interesting take on the gluten free beer, but it's only average or below to me.

Orange-gold, hazed, white head has decent retention and lace.

S - Grapefruit flesh, caramel and bready sweetness, touch of pine.

T - Follows the nose, but has a buttery off-flavor mid palate which builds as it warms. Little bitterness from the hops, stays mostly sweet.

M - Medium body, good medium carb level

O - Needs a little more hop bitterness to balance sweetness. Buttery/diacetyl flavor doesn't help.

Pours a clean orange-ish too yellow color with a light tan head. In the aroma, sweeter, with honey and clove notes. In the taste, dry raisin like sweetness, and a bit sticky sweet. A small bite, but mainly smooth with a medium bodied mouthfeel, with a dry honey like and gritty aftertaste. Not that good of a pale, but for gluten free, decent.

I was not as impressed with their Pale Ale as their Lager. Poured a 1/8 inch off-white head which faded fast. Hazy iced tea color with a touch of amber and no effervescence left in the body. Very little smell at all, even as it warmed. Taste is pretty bland and though it has hops it's nowhere close to the hops in an average Pale Ale. Only a mild brief hop finish. Pretty darn boring to me.

12oz bottle poured into IPA glass.

Rich amber color, quarter finger of good looking white head. Moderate lacing.

Hoppy, bits of citrus or fruit flavor, with a slightly off, metallic aftertaste. Well carbonated with a good texture and balance.

Wouldn't know it was gluten free or otherwise restricted on ingredients without being told. Didn't know when buying, it's not on the bottle.

Overall it's an above average apa, which is an accomplishment given the gluten-free restriction. It looks much better than it tastes, unfortunately.

bottle into a pint glass

clear copper, almost amber, color with a nice tan head and great lacing

smell is very faint. maybe a touch of molasses or brown sugar

taste is synthetic sweetness and nutty. a bit of bitterness in the end, not very well balanced

mouthfeel is creamy, almost like a nitro

not a bad beer, but I wouldn't go to this for a pale ale-it reminded me of an amber lager
