Bought this as a 6-pk close-out at CashWise Liquor in St. Cloud, MN. Best by Aug 15,09. I figured, both because this is a darker beer and that CashWise treats their beers well this would still be good. Oh, yea, $3.75 close out had a lot to do with it too.
Poured into a new Cold Spring Brewery glass with carbonation etching on the bottom. Pickup at the brewery on my way home for $4.00. Wow, wonderful glass, and much, much better at encouraging carbonation than the Sam Adams glasses.
Any-who! I agree with all the others who rate this beer. Is is pretty decent, has a flavor that I have not encountered in other amber beers so that is good. I notice a small amount of nice aftertaste, and a very little tongue numbing after a few minutes too.

Pale amber with thin white head.
Caramel nose with hints of pine and lemon.
Toffee apple up front with some toasty granola, then light passionfruit, pine, and resin.
Vague pine cone (earthy, woody) finish and grapefruit rind linger.
Light, slight cling, round.
Too thin, with malt over hops, which don't do Simcoe justice. Drinks like Sam Adams, which is not a compliment. Amber for Dummies.

Clear amber with a dense off white head with decent retention and lacing. The nose is a blend of caramel, cascade hops, toast, brown sugar, citrus and toffee. The palate opens moderately toasty and caramel like, but exceedingly thin and watery. Hop character is mild, with a faint bitterness, mild flavor and a touch of mineral. A touch of honey is present. The finish is dry and lacks flavor. Rather mediocre IMO.
