Poured from bottle into a Sam Adams glass.
A - A very cheerful, almost glowing, orange-ish amber color. Small head which fades quickly, some trace remains through-out drinking. Very inviting.
S - Surprise! This smells so unbelievably good and sweet. Can't quite put my finger on it, but it's got a sort of citrus smell mixed with honey.
T - Very sweet, but not too sweet. Has a bit of bitterness at the end of every sip. Sweet to start, slightly bitter end. I got a little tired of it near the end.
M - Nice. Fairly carbonated, but it works with this style.
Summary - I liked this one overall. Drop Top is different from most amber ales I've tried. I'm typically partial to darker brews, and the sweetness may turn some off, but I enjoyed the variety.

Pale amber with thin white head.
Caramel nose with hints of pine and lemon.
Toffee apple up front with some toasty granola, then light passionfruit, pine, and resin.
Vague pine cone (earthy, woody) finish and grapefruit rind linger.
Light, slight cling, round.
Too thin, with malt over hops, which don't do Simcoe justice. Drinks like Sam Adams, which is not a compliment. Amber for Dummies.

Clear amber with a dense off white head with decent retention and lacing. The nose is a blend of caramel, cascade hops, toast, brown sugar, citrus and toffee. The palate opens moderately toasty and caramel like, but exceedingly thin and watery. Hop character is mild, with a faint bitterness, mild flavor and a touch of mineral. A touch of honey is present. The finish is dry and lacks flavor. Rather mediocre IMO.
