The bar I frequently drink at got this in the other week. I'm a big fan of ales so I had to try it. I was nothing short of impressed.

It pours amber in color and has a great aroma to it. Definitely a carmel and honey smell to it. Had a very nice head.

The flavor was one of the best I've had in a long time. I would definitely buy again if I can find it.

Appearance - Nothing special here.
Smell - Sweet, mellow hop bouquet.
Taste - Good light hefe flavors mix with a very well balanced hint of lemon to end a near ephemeral earthy wheat aftertaste.
Mouthfeel - A little foamy but otherwise the normal filling, effervescent style of an Amber you'd expect.
Overall - A well put together beer. Nothing fancy, but a microbrew deserving of the few extra bucks at the store.

Widmer Brothers Drop Top Amber Ale has a thin, cream-colored head, and a mostly clear, bubbly, amber appearance, with some thin lacing left down the glass. The aroma is mainly bready malt, but some citrus and hops are detected with a deep inhalation. Taste is almost all Orange Julius, with some hop spice at the end and faint breadiness. The mouthfeel has a fluffy ale body, and Widmer Brothers Drop Top Amber Ale finishes mostly dry, easy-drinking, and delicious. There is a definite piney aftertaste. Overall, I really enjoyed this one, and I rate it highly.

Very solid beer. Has sort of a strange mouthfeel but I'd buy it again. The smell was fantastic. Smells like a beer ought to smell. Feels a bit lighter than it really is. Works well with Mexican food, which frankly is one of my biggest concerns of ANY beer.

Very fine beer from a good brewery.

A: Pours a crystal clear light amber color with a slight head that fades quickly.

S: Buttery toffee aroma stands out along with a slight sweet malty smell.

T: Buttery toffee returns from the aroma to start with followed by a sweet malt flavor that fades quickly into a very slight toasted bread flavor.

D: Not what I was expecting at all. The light flavor keeps this brew very drinkable on those hot summer afternoons here in Florida.

Just now noticing on the bottle, this is 2 months expired. Hopfully hops and freshness will not suffer too much.
Purchased this single for around a buck to give it a try.

Poured from the brown bottle into a pub glass. Producing about a half inch of white head. Settling as quickly as it formed, leaving a nice little cap and generous collar. Color is a transparent golden copper. Lace rings line and drape the glass.

Aroma of fruity hops, sweet caramel malt and a faint grape nuts like aroma too.

Taste is sweet upfront with a white grape flavor at first, dissipating to mild bittering hops and mild fruity hops. Alongside a solid grain taste. Little bit of cara60 raisin flavor lingering into the finish with mild bittering hops. I see cara10 was used and it shows in retention and lace.

Mouthfeel is good with some biteing carbonation and slick feel.

Taste is pretty damn solid here. This is a great beer.

Appearance: Nice orange amber, slight chill haze, no luck on a head, or lacing. Nice color though.

Smell: Sweet malt, some ripe fruit esters, mild citrus or herbal hops, pretty well rounded smell.

Taste: Caramelly and coffee notes, nice roasted malt flavors, hops are very subtle, finishes with a nice whole grain toast taste.

Mouthfeel: Crisp, medium bodied and pretty light carbonation, finishes somewhat dry, but lingers.

Drinkability: I like this brew and would definitely drink it if offered one. It's well built and solid. Refreshing and crisp, not overly complex. Great after my spaghetti and meat sauce with fresh parmesan.

Very quaff-able for an amber

A- Pale brown-orange color with transparent body. I guess you could call it amber. Weak head but I might not have poured it well. Got a better head on my 2nd pour with retention and lacing

S- Smell is earthy and toasty with a hint of caramel and maybe some floral hops

T- I would like more hops, but it is typical of amber ales to have a shy hop profile. Mostly malts described in the smell along with slightly metallic flavor brought out by the carbonation

M- Very smooth and crisp carbonation with a medium, coating body

D- Drinkable. Don't question it

The Widmer Drop Top Amber pours a translucent copper with a moderate white head. The carbonation is very evident.

The aroma is malty with a hint of citrusy hops. The flavor is sweet from the roasted malt with a very nice hoppy finish. The hoppiness is more fruity than floral. The carbonation is very evident giving the beer an extremely refreshing, crisp mouthfeel. This is a very drinkable beer.

I'm not sure where all the hate is coming from for this beer. It's certainly not a weak beer...well, it is if you're used to chewing raw hops. It's not an Imeperial Sommethingorother. It's an American amber ale. And it's a very good one.
