Notes/Commercial Description:
A light, copper colour ale with a fresh, hoppy taste and a clean bitter finish.

Brewed with two varieties of hops, combined with pale and crystal malts, Brains IPA is a well-balanced and easy-drinking pint.

Served on cask in a pub in Cardiff. Dirt cheap too - £1.99.

Pours a mid-dark amber colour, with a decent white head.

Smells pretty fresh and hoppy.

Tastes super fresh by what's been said in the other reviews. Decent amount of hops, with some caramel tasting malts to balance it out. Very malt forward but by no means dominated.

Overall a decent effort, considering it's been made for so cheap.

A 500ml bottle with a BB of Oct 2012. Picked up not too long back from a cheap off-licence. The strange symbols on the label make me wonder if this is hopped with NZ varieties.

Poured into a tulip pint glass. An orange-amber colour with faint haze and good carbonation. Forms a decent head of creamy white foam that lasts for a few minutes before settling as a surface layer. Aroma of mild caramel malt with notes of harsh stewed hops, overcooked veg and cardboard. No aromatic hop notes in sight. Not great.

Tastes of caramel malt with a harsh bitter finish. Notes of stewed hops, cardboard and hints of overdone veggies. No aromatic hops. Very dry, with an acrid bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth, dry and tingly, though a bit insubstantial body-wise. Rather astringent, with an aftertaste of harsh stewed hops and a hint of industrial solvent.

Weak sauce - this is a poor offering even by Brains' low standards. Harsh, stewed flavours; just vile. No aroma hops in evidence, so this isn't up to much as an IPA either. I'm glad I didn't spend very much on this, but I recommend learning from my mistake and avoiding it altogether.

http://www.sabrain.com/beers/draught/speciality/ipa I had this seasonal beer in January 2011 at the Bon Accord pub in Glasgow, Scotland. It was served from a cask.

A: Pours a clear copper with a thin head of decent cream.

Sm: Skunkily hoppy. Feck's sake, man.

T: Bittering hops in a strange balance with barley. Flavour is distinct but a bit foul. Built strangely, all things considered.

Mf: A bit too smooth. Watery. Too light even for the low ABV.

Dr: Pricey and low ABV. Won't ever have it again. It's not surprising it's so unknown.
