About a finger and half of head on a copper colored body.
The aroma is alcohol and wet grains.
The taste is highly sweet with a short finish. The level of sweetness took me by surprise.
A sticky texture with moderate carbonation and medium body.
I can’t get over how sweet it is…

Presented in a 750ml. green champagne bottle with black foil covering cork and cage. It pours rootbeer brown with a thick and frothy two-fingers of beige head. Good carbonation and tons of thick, sticky lace coat the glass as you drink.

Smell very sweet and malty with some musty yeast and a metallic note as well.

The taste is very sweet and full on malt upfront. The sweetness seems like an overload of Belgian candi sugar that eventually pans out to some weak grassy hops...still over-ridden by sweetness. The rather high ABV isn't really that noticable, yet it does come into the equation at the end of the 750ml bomber.

The body is a bit thin on the medium side and the brew overall is quite easy to drink if you don't mind SWEET beer. Not bad for the style, but I've had much better.

Appearence: Poured a hazy copper with a thick, creamy beige head.

Smell: The smell is an odd mix of sweet, honeyish malts with earthy hops and a nice dose of alcohol.

Taste and Mouthfeel: This is an incredibly creamy beer. Wonderfully so. The malts are powerfully sweet, almost mind-bogglingly so. The alcohol is a bit heavy, and isn't well rounded, but it's still a fun beer to sip on.

Drinkability and Overall: While being a bit unbalanced, this is still an interesting beer moslty because of the odd belgian qualitites added. Makes it quite complex, and interesting enough to finish, but not one to keep drinking. The alcohol is too strong to keep it from being better. Not bad.

750 mL bottle pours a hazed, dark copper color with a light cap of tan head with a gentle pour. The bottle foamed up and over the lip of the bottle upon opening…probably explains the haziness too.

Nose is uber-fruity with tons of strawberries, raisins and plums. Brown sugar, licorice and cinnamon. Interesting blend of aromas not usually found in a Wee Heavy, smells much more like a BSDA or maybe even a Quad.

Fruitiness continues in the flavor and combines with a brown bread yeastiness that makes this very un-Scotch Ale-esque. There does seem to be plenty of caramel and even a touch of peat in here but is overshadowed by the yeast presence. I want mad smoke, peat, chocolate and sugar flavors in my Wee Heavy. This delivers on the carmely/sugar aspect, but fails on the other three. Mouthfeel is good, the carbonation fine and the beer slick. Unfortunately, the beer seems to fall short of the richness and malt complexity a good BSDA comes with and does not fare well against other great Scotch Ales due to the lack of smoke/peat/chocolate. Its not bad, I mean...I wont have trouble finishing this 750, but certainly not something I would come back to again for the price.

A: Has a walnut brown tone with a very decent lace.
S: Nutty aroma with a slight caramel tint.
T&M: Has a very upfront strong natural tastte to it. You can really taste the alcohol, which in turn leaves the mouth with that numb sensation.
D: One is all this guy could go for in this session and no mas after that.

This review is on a 1999 bottle from my celler.

This ale poured a cloudy orange-brown with a rich light brown head that dissipated to a thin ring within the first couple of minutes. The aroma is pleasantly malty with dry fruit odors and hints of spice with sour undertones. The taste starts off malty with carmel and biscuit malt flavors. Then it moves into an effervescence of raisin and apricot flavors with a hints of alcohol and lingering maltiness. The finish turns quite sour and dry. The aftertaste is a lingering warmth of malt and dry sourness. I don't remember this ale being quite this sour. It could be that three years is past this ale's prime. The mouthfeel is quite smooth and silky even with the sourness.

I bought a case of this ale in 1999 and enjoyed it over the last couple of years very much. But I think it has passed its prime. Good thing there are only two bottles left. Still, it is a tasty ale even with the sourness and if it has passed its prime. I will be buying more in the future and will update this review then if warranted.

Although I really like the style, I thought this beer was sort of average.
A brown brew with small soapy head that didn't last very long.
The smell and taste were typical; molasses, caramel, plums, sour fruityoghurt and some roastiness and smokiness.
A bit too sweet and cloying for me to be really convincing though. Of the scotch ales that are avaiblable in Belgium I think I prefer Gordon's and Campbell's over this.

Very malty brown sugar nose and slight sour notes. Evolves into something spicy-ily white pepper like. Not a big head at any time and mostly loose and whispy. Orangy brown , not hazy but neither is it sparkling. Not at all agressive. Light to medium bodies at best with smooth lightl;y buttery quality and not much carbonation.
Much more dilute and limpid and a lot less complex than I assumed it would be.
Ok but disappointing.
