look: 4 | smell: 4 | taste: 4 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

Appearance: Murky dark amber body surmounted by a moderate off-white head, and thick glass-coating lace. Before a strong light, there is moderate carbonation and some sediment.

Aroma: Sweet caramel and earth notes dominate, alcohol notes are faint, surprising, considering the high ABV. There is also a mild apple rind note as well, which seems quite complimentary.

Taste: Opens with a wave of alcohol and caramel, both sweet. The alcohol is quite warming. As the taste progresses, there is a mild bitter, earthy note, which balances well against the caramel and sweet alcohol. A wave of dark fruit presents later in the taste, suggesting raisins and especially prunes. Finishes with a lingering note of vanilla and wood. There is a very faint herbal hop bitterness at the close of the taste.

Mouth feel: Smooth, soft, very full, pleasing.

Drinkability/notes: Very pleasing, seems ideal for a cool, dark autumn day when the wind rises and cool rains fall. Well worth a try.

Presentation: Packaged in a 750 ml brown glass Belgian-style bomber with a cork and cage, served in a Samuel Adams Boston Lager Sensory glass.

look: 3.5 | smell: 4 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 3.75

Appearance- A deep reddish brown with a tan finger head that retains well.

Smell- Awesome. Caramel in the forefront with a little bit of a yeasty smell.

Taste- Dark fruit. Malty sweetness with a little smokiness. No bitterness noticeable; maybe could have been a little more for balance.

Mouthfeel- Alcohol is not as well hidden as it could have been, but overall the mouthfeel is nice.

Overall- A nice Scotch Ale with a subtle Belgian influence noticeable through its yeasty aroma. A good beer that I will buy again.
