Chilled bottle poured to its own Silly Saison branded glass, not sure what category its shape fits into.

Color is mahogany moving towards a burnt caramel.

On the nose are very mild cherry fruit like notes with strains of phenol and coffee like aromatics.

Taste is hugely driven by malt characteristics with only a very thin hint of those berry fruits which creates a proximity to the Lambic style.

In the mouth this Saison gives a moderate burst of flavor only to dry off quickly.

A good enough beer but no where not a solid representative of the style.

Poured a cloudy reddish amber with a half-finger off-white head. It looks too light for a Oud Bruin or a Flanders Red and too dark for a saison, but its not unappealing. Scents of sour funk, apple, white grape and some earthy must. A sour, wild ale aroma, not a saison at all, but not bad. Flavor starts with sour grape skin, some sour green apple and sour raspberry. In the middle and finish these flavors stick around and some lactic sour flavors also appear alongside funky musk. The finish and aftertaste are bitter with a bit of graininess. Again, not traditional for a saison at all, but not a bad wild ale flavor. Mouthfeel is light bodied with moderate carbonation and a drying feel. A good Belgian sour mouthfeel. Overall this is a good Belgian wild ale, with a nice all around profile, however it is not a saison like it claims to be.

Ambre-brown colour with a small head.

Strong caramel smell and taste, toffee, even some coke and herbal medicines. It drinks like a soda anyway.

For a saison it's not exaggeratedly sweet. Not being my favourite type of beer, this one drinks well.

Mouthfill is rather smooth.

Tasted 31 October 2013.

Pours medium brown, about the color of apple cider. Huge 3-finger yellow-tan head. Good retention, plenty of lacing. Nice, though I find the color unusual.

Smells like apple juice. A little funky. More like apple cider. Fruity and earthy.

Taste is moderately funky, a little herbal. It's got that apple juice, but the funk, herbs, and earthy grains are more potent. Nice complexity.

Feel is medium-light in body, moderate carbonation. Not particularly notable.

A fruity, lightly funky saison. Reminds me of apple juice crossed with beer. Not sure that I'd peg this as a saison without the label on the bottle, but it's tasty.

Into a tulip:

A: darker than I was expecting brown colored body with a fairly large foamy white head that once it dies leaves some spotty lacing

S: super sweet syrupy grape with a fairly large quantity of toasted malt (different than most saisons and doesn't seem to have even aged like one if it is aged [no bottling date])

T: super sweet, slight grape aftertaste, dry finish (plain weird to me as a saison)

M: light to medium, fairly sessionable, carbonation isn't really there - period (once again weird)

O: uh... this is a saison? ok, hmmm... well I guess it lives up to its name, it is silly

A: Pours way darker than I was expecting. A reddish ruddy brown color with a thin tan head that disappears pretty quickly.

S: Sweet and syrupy smell with some caramel, grape, cat dander and toasted malt. Not exactly what comes to mind when I think of a saison.

T: This just isn't good. Starts with some toasted malt mixed with a lot of caramel/grape/gross syrupy sweetness. Lacks any sort of carbonation to break the sweetness up, so it comes off syrupy and flat. Really not sure why they call this a saison, because nothing about this beer says saison to me.

A 250ml bottle with a BB of Aug 2013. Acquired ages ago from a webshop and stored in my garage. I always wanted to try this one, due to the silly name...

Poured into a Delirium chalice. Bottle conditioned. A deep ruby-red hue with good clarity and intensely effervescent carbonation. Yields a vast head of creamy off-white foam that lasts for ages before reducing to a thick surface layer. Aroma of caramel malt with hints of grain, fruity yeast, grapes/raisins, mild phenolics, faint brown sugar and stewed leaves. Dry and vinous, with a metallic twang in the background.

Tastes of subtle caramel malt with a yeasty character and a dry finish. Notes of grainy malt, fruity yeast, raisins, faint dried fruit, mild phenolics, brown sugar and earthiness. Well attenuated, though also slightly sweet. Hints of cardboard in the background, followed by a mild bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth, dry and tingly, with good carbonation and decent body. Somewhat astringent, accompanied by an aftertaste of caramel malt, cardboard and earthy yeast.

Hmmm, so-so. It looks OK, while the aroma and flavour have a dominant malty note and a vinous, yeasty quality. Body is alright. The caramel is a little surprising, but overall it's not too bad. Just lacking in depth, especially the flavour. Goes down easily enough but I probably wouldn't bother with it again. No need to seek it out.
