Silly Sour is a unique brew that blends 13% of traditional dark Saison with 87% of soured ale. The delicate malt notes from the Saison manage to break through the striking green apple sourness upfront and than give a way to a finishing jolt of lactic sourness! At an approachable 5.5% Alc. by Vol. this chestnut colored brew adds a new page in the history of Saison brewing.

This is a saison? Really? Seems totally Flemish to me.

Pours dark and clear. Minimal head. Mild sour tones on top of a fairly heavy cherry character. Mild vinegar edges. Totally Flemish style. And I like it. Kind of an easy going funky beer. Probably would be a good beginner's sour. (285 characters)

From BeerAdvocate Magazine #85 (Feb 2014):

Tart, Tannin, Apple

Deep brown hue, sticky head. Deep aromas of melon rind, lemon zest, walnuts, toasted bread, and faint phenols. Modest-sized body, smooth, mild tartness. Apple skin, nutty grain, lemon pith, very light hopping and heavy tannin show a wide range of flavors. Long, bone-dry finish. We get that this is a sour, but while the blending works, the mild astringent character in the end can be a bit much. A worthy sip to change things up.

330 ml bottle into Belgian snifter; no bottle dating.

Pours a deep ruby-brown color with a thin light brown head that quickly settles to a durable partial coat.

Aroma: sour fruits including cherry and green apple; hints of wet wood, wet hay, and wet leather. Better aroma than this sounds, with good complexity.

Flavor: sour fruit, including cherries, grapes and green apples. Moderately sour. ,Finishes with lingering notes of tart fruits, red wine, and raisins.

Feel: Medium body and near medium carbonation; fairly smooth.

Overall: a refreshing and unchalleging sour red ale with good complexity. (608 characters)

Poured into a Belgian tulip from a 11.5 ounce bottle.

The pour produces a light, fluffy and airy head with plentiful carbonation bubbles and a pale-white color. The body is reminiscent of a plum in color, dark amber, brown and purple-hued. It's on the darker side but there is clarity visible at the edges of the glass where the color lightens.

Interesting smell found here, as it reminds me much more of a dubbel with that pungent malty flavor that smells a bit dated. There's some slight dark fruit aroma but nothing that makes a great impression.

The taste reminds me a bit of a dubbel as well, as it's heavy on that pungent malt flavor and has a dark fruit note and creamy vanilla and caramel. However, there's a tart cherry flavor that pierces the tongue and gives this a bit more of the flavor one would expect from a sour. Wine-like flavors seem to appear with the yeasty feel that lingers on the tongue.

Feel starts off nice and tart, but then there's a bit of yeast and malt overkill that really take away from the nice mellow tartness and make this beer, again, feel like a dubbel. There is a bit of a vinous feel too, but that too contends with the heavy-handed yeast.

Hell, for $4 this is a damn cheap sour and it really tastes the price. Not bad, but certainly nothing remarkable. (1,302 characters)

On tap at Stumbling Monk, Seattle, WA. Served in mini-goblet for $6.00!

Smells like freshly brewed beer, maybe a little green.
Red to light brown in color.
Very tart and lightly fruity start, an apple cider vinegar sour starts just behind the tip of the tongue, then lingers and tingles towards the middle and roof of the mouth. It finally finishes (after what seems like minutes) with a spicy pepper bitterness. Makes it an easy drinker... you are reaching for the glass as soon as you put it down. (500 characters)
