March 2011: 330 ml stubby bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 8.5%. Deep brown colour, huge and lasting beige head. Pleasant aroma of dark ripe fruits, spices, brown kandi sugar and caramel. Malty flavour with notes of brown kandi sugar and caramel, also notes of spices and dark dried fruits. Moderate hops.

Disappointing....more like a 1/2 dark than a double dark...was expecting something robust, but this seemed bland to me.

L- The ease of pour was joyfully simple (no run-away vast heads forming instantly, several of which I've had with Belgian beer recently). Very very dark brown, but then held to a light-bulb and it's actually a deep garnet red. It's 100% clear too, unusual for this bottle shape. Zero sediment in the empty bottle either, pretty odd since the lable states it's bottle refermented.
S- Deep roasty-toasty malted grain.
T- Follows the Smell^ and is notably malty. Overall it's of the dark/pungent/winter-warmer style.
F- It is quite rich but doesn't stray over to having a sweet note, thankfully. As ^ Dark/pungent/winter-warmer style. One for slow-sipping in front of a log fire.
O- Lovely, nothing out of place nor balance. I would very happily drink this again!
Bought from BelgiumInABox at Antwerp/BE for home delivery to me in London. 330ml bottle Bb: 09/09/2021.

I was unpleasantly surprised by this beer. I really love Waterloo beers, but not this one. All of my senses were disappointed. Hardly any smell, almost tasteless. I'll stick to my beloved Triple.

Good balance, nice mouthfeel. This dubbel does the job alright without being cloying in anytime. Some chocolate, some dark fruits with dates and figs.

Nice dark ruby colour with a decent and steady head of foam. Weak smell of caramel, yeast and some metal. The taste is fine: dark fruits, caramel, dark malt and chocolate. Alcohol is notable but blends with the other flavours very well. It actually gives this beer some hints of brandy when swallowing. Mouth feel is smooth but watery. A decent dubbel, though the smell and mouth feel are a bit disappointing.
