I love going to AJ's on lunch and getting some sushi, pizza or something from the deli/bakery. Have a decent selection of craft beers too at fair prices. They aren't going to have as much of a selection as a Total Wine/ Bevmo but it is a great selection for a grocery store. They even occasionally get some special release beers in like Stone's Enjoy By.

This place has a decent selection, but nothing special in any way. They offer the standard selections: Alesmith, Stone, Sierra Nevada, a few Trappist selections, St. B., ect. While you may not find anything rare or special releases here, this is an affordable place with a decent selection. It can be difficult to get service at this location at times, there used to be a special beer guy that worked at this location but he has since moved to the Arcadia AJ's location. If you live around this store, hit it up, otherwise hit up something closer.

Quality is probably the best thing about this liquor store, very nice and well organized. Service was no where to be found, however I didn't really need any. I have to say, I was dissapointed by the selection. Being from MN, there wasn't all that much of an exciting selection that I couldn't get elsewhere. Really just the AleSmith, Alaskan, and some Stone, but they were over-priced and there was acutally more of a selection at Bevmo, which I suggest going to if you're in the area, seeing as how they're right down the street.

After just moving to AZ this find was a life-saver. Stopped in just to get some cheese and bread and walked out with a cart full of beer. They carry alot of Cali brands such as Stone, Port, Lost Abbey, and sometimes Russian River. They also have Great Divide and Oskar Blues and other stuff from Colorado I had never seen before. They have a very nice selection of Belgians as well. Prices are pretty good, but if you are in the area its definately worth the stop, however I don't think its worth making a trip for.

Q: Not too shabby...reminded me of a Whole Foods out here in California with about the same quality of beer to choose from.
S: Nothing too special...but an employee was there to help us with questions.
S: Coming from California...the selection was a change of pace for me. A lot of Great Divide stuff mixed in with some other local breweries. Oh yeah, a lot of dogfish head as well.
Overall: A better version of Bevmo...but nothing out of this world. Picked up a Oaked Aged Yeti for about 8 or 9 bucks...which was pretty awesome. Visit this place if you have some free time. Cheers!

I saved some money from a Spring Training game from not buying an $8 pint of beer, but instead decided to redistribute that money (and a little more) at this establishment. AJ's is a gourmet store with a number of fine artisan products, including beer. All the beer is chilled in a cool box and looked fresh, well-organized to boot. Some good stuff, good selection of bombers and single bottles. Beers like Handbryggeriet, Westmalle, Black Boss Porter, Trumer Pils, Unibroue, Okocim, St. Bernardus...good American craft beer selection too (Stone, Lagunitas, Big Sky, Leinenkuegel). Beers were a little more expensive than other establishments I visited in greater Phoenix.
One could go here exclusively for beer, but Total Wine is just down the street and has a better selection while being less expensive. Better to go here for one-stop shopping for artisan food products and artisan beer.

Went in for the first time today, and was absolutely blown away by the selection. I have been to every single AJ's in the Phoenix area, and this is by far the best selection of them all. Even the Camelback and 44th location, which actually has a larger beer case doesn't have a better selection. They are the only place in Phoenix that I've ever seen Rodenbach and Fantome, in addition to some Norwegian and Danish beers.
The pricing is a bit high, compared to Total Wine, or BevMo, but the selection alone makes up for that completely. And really, they're no more expensive than any other AJ's.

Swung by this place during a trip to the 2008 Fiesta Bowl (yea WVU!)
Very pleased with the result: a full aisle dedicated to microbrews. The selection was quite impressive in terms of west coast brews (made me pee a little): Stone, Ska, Moylan's, Green Flash, Kona, and others.
Make your own six-packs were available, and the prices were very reasonable, if on the inexpensive side.
The service was great, the cashier and I had a few minutes of beer talk before I headed out.
AJ's fine foods rocks any supermarket chain we have on the east coast in terms of beer selection (Whole Foods, Total Wine, etc...).

I love this store. I buy all my high end foods here. The store is a high end gourmet food store that is very pric,y but carries only the best....this includes the beer.
The beer selection is probably the best I have found in this state. This is why I gave "selection" a 5. I love all the comments written about the beers. A lot of the beers are rated by an employee in the store... I would love to meet him and discuss new beers to try. This is a great guide to trying new beers.
There is Bevmo near-by but they do not refrigerate thier beers as Aj's does.

Stopped in here based on Beerfly (and it was closest to where we were staying) and was very impressed. Gourmet grocery store in the Whole Foods vein, but more gourmet. Nice atmosphere and layout. The beer took up a long, open cooler and some 4-way displays toward the back, by the wine. Nice selection, focused heavily on West Coast and Colorado brews. Glad to see Port Brewing/Lost Abbey, Alesmith, and Green Flash, among many other good choices. A few macros, and modest supply of European beers. Many singles available (big plus!), and there were many hand-written reccommendations from "Jonpol." As I was getting ready to leave Jonpol came out to stock and we chatted for a while. Very nice guy who knows his stuff. Wish I could have bought more, especially at their reasonable prices. Will definitely go back next time I'm in town!
