Never had heineken light until now. everyones reviews were spot on, so i wont waste my time typing something that doesnt deserve a critical review, and at 3% abv, i feel like im drinking skunk smelling water. basically, i drank it to add it to my bottle collection and the remaining will be used for beer pong when the buddies come over

Decided to review along with other "macro beers".

Fairly generic lager. There isn't anything special about the pour. Looks golden and fairly clear. I cannot discern anything from the smell of the beer. You couldn't tell it was beer. The taste is actually not terrbile. Granted there isn't much there but I've had much worse. Mouthfeel is typical for the style; some carbonation but generally smooth since the ABV is so low. It is drinkable and not the worst choice you could make. I'd choose something with more flavor, even as a light lager.

light yellow clean and fizzy. nice bit of head but quickly disappears. nothing special but not much of from your other typical lagers

lots of skunk and grain with a bit of a malty tone. am i alone in digging the skunk?

this flavor struck me on this. it actually reminded me of regular heineken. nice and skunky, distinct grain body, slight bitterness.

light to moderate body, medium carbonation.

i find it humorous that this is getting slammed but for a light lager it does ok. it still retains a good bit of flavor. this was a typical golf course beer that we had after shooting 18, and it was decent and if it was between this and the massive amounts of budweiser, i would take this hands down.

A - Light straw color, with a 4 finger white fluffy head that dissapates very quickly. Slight effervesence. Leaves no lacing.

S - Skunkiness is apparent from the pop of the cap. Its truley hard to pick out anything else.

T - Extremely watery grainy taste. A sour dry grainy taste lingers on the back of the toungue and mouth, almost green apple-like. Alcohol taste is non-existent.

M - Very thin and watery. Carbonation after pouring is nil.

D - Goes down like water... but less refreshing to be honest. I really don't know why anyone would drink this beer other than to say you've tried it.

Final thoughts: I poured this thing down the drain after half a glass. Avoid this beer!! ...unless you are offered one at a party and dont want to seem rude.

Pretty good for a lighter beer. I think it is a little too heavily carbonated, and seems a little like an alcoholic sprite. The carbonation definitely overrides any truly distinctive flavor in the beer. Despite this, i do think heineken is more refreshing than most beers, and i never turn one down

So this I have no excuse for other then trying to knock out the bottom of the barrel list as quick as possible. A short trip to the store revealed most of these sitting there, rip for the taking. Decided to try a few last night and just go with it. Served cold and right from the bottle, this was consumed on 08/11/2010.

Working my way into the lighter fair I decided to open this one up a perennial favorite of my father in law, I through one in the mixed sixer just to give it a whirl in a review setting. Pours a straightforward light hay color with a minimal head of white fizzy bubbles that quickly dissipates and leaves only token lacing along the sides of the glass. Aroma is light, nearly non existent with small hints of grass and corn, but that was about it. Crisp and clean feel cannot save this one from being overpowered by its lightness. Maybe a touch of corn, maybe, but there is really no flavor here to be had at all. It works well on a 100 degree day in place of water, but that is about the only use I could find. Taste leaves as quickly as it arrives.

Overall I will pass, while it is not as horrible tasting as some of the others, its blandness does me in.

Thanks to thirdeye11 for sharing this bottle.

The beer pours a very light yellow with a white head. The aroma is straight skunk. I know this is not how the brewer intended the beer to smell, but when you choose a light green bottle for your beer, you should be held responsible if it skunks. The flavor is not as skunky and has notes of corn and grass. Thin mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

330ml bottle poured into a pint glass

A - pale.. really pale yellow colour. 1 finger white fizzy head that was gone within minutes

S - smells slightly skunky, not a whole lot of smell.. maybe a little bit of grain

T&M - average carbonation and very watery.. watery than other light beers. Its almost like its 2 parts regular Heineken and 8 parts water.

D - I wouldn't buy this again, it's closer to water than it is to beer.

The beer is bottled nicely in a green bottle. The beer itself doesn't look bad.

The smell is a little in your face. It doesn't smell rancid but definitely sticks out.

The beer's taste is sweet upfront with a bizarre twist at the end. Definitely a light beer, but more flavor than other light beers for sure.

Mouthfeel is that of a light beer. Kind of a slight overcarbonation present.

As a light beer, it's very drinkable. I wouldn't choose it over other cheaper light beers, but I could easily finish 6.

standard 12oz bottle

This is the first Heineken I've tried, and I'm not impressed. I don't like the appearance, looks like fizzy, pale soda. Had a slight skunky smell to it, very little flavor. No aroma to speak of, and very little hop taste. Feels watery and a bit acidic in the mouth. I guess since it's so bland and watery you could down a bunch of them, but why bother with this stuff?
Better than an American light beer maybe, but still not one I'd want to try again.

CAN you believe that I found three new CANs for the CANQuest while in DC this past weekend? Onward!

My pour produced a finger-and-a-half of fluffy bone-white head with decent retention. Color was a light lemon-yellow with NE-quality clarity. Nose was slightly sulfuric underlain by a slight lager sweetness. Mouthfeel was thin and watery, a real drawback of the style. It had a light lager seetness on the tongue. Finish was mild and unobtrusive. It really begets the question, "Why?" It was inoffensive, but it was also pretty tasteless and bland. Why bother?

(Regular Heineken Lager is already fairly light to begin with, so making a Light version of an already light beer seemed rather suspect; in the end, that gut instinct was spot-on about this one.)

Poured from a 12oz metal can.

Appearance- Extremely pale yellow. It has more of a head and more lacing than regular Heineken, but they both fade fairly fast after the initial up-rush of fizzing bubbles subsides.

Smell- The only detectable scent is one of very diluted grain, which is essentially all this beer is to begin with.

Taste- There is a fast flash of crisp, bitter hop that fades into a clean, dry aftertaste. It's as though Heineken simply poured out 1/3rd of a vat of their regular lager, refilled it with water, and bottled it.

Mouthfeel- Extremely thin and watery with significant carbonation.

Drinkability- Its drinkability really depends on your tastes. If you just finished mowing the lawn and discovered your sink is broken, this serves as an acceptable substitute for water. If your goal is to get drunk without ingesting too many calories or without tasting what goes into your mouth, this serves as an ideal beer. If, however, your goal is to explore and enjoy a delicious beer, this is not the beer for you.

A- Pours a pale yellow with a super foamy head and off white lacing. Nothing to write home about, just like your typical light beer.

S- Grainy, bready, not overwhelming; just unattractive in general. The smell doesn't invite me to want to drink this one, but I did anyway. You can also smell that there will be some bitterness in this beer.

T- Pretty watery, just look at the alcohol content. Also kind of bittery and some mustiness to it. Yuck.

M- The carbonation makes this beer score low here.

D- Drinkable. I could see anyone having maybe a six pack of this in a couple hours. Nothing really could hold one back from drinking a lot of these because the alcohol content is low.

This beer is, essentially, flavored water. The very clean, pale appearance is not attractive. I detected very little aroma. The taste was terrible--I didn't want another. The mouthfeel is almost indistinguishable from lightly fizzed water.

It is worth drinking if only to understand how far beer has come.

Poured into a standard pint glass. Head dissipates almost immediately. Decent lacing but dissolved after 30 seconds or so. The beer was very pale yellow, almost like tinted water. Almost no smell--what little there was had no notes I could discern. Tastes surprisingly harsh considering the appearance and smell. Bitter in the back of the throat--it's a lingering bitterness. Very unpleasant. Mouthfeel of slightly bubbly water. Drinkability is very low--I wouldn't drink this again.

Ultimately, this is a good beer to use for cooking (fondue, beer bread, etc.), but avoid drinking this is you have other options.

Probably deserves a lower score than I gave but I didn't want to completely bash this beer because I drink it if i don't want all of the calories from a regular heineken

Apperance- has a light yellow tint to the beer has a foamy head

Smell- has a corn smell kind of a skunky smell to it but not terrible

Taste- Some grainy smell taste, and water little flavoring

Mouthfeel- Very smooth goes down well being almost like water

Drinkability- It is very drinkable because it has little flavoring to it, and is not that expensive

Appearance: Looked very pale and boring. Flat with no head retention.

Smell: Neutral beer smell. Water. I tried a bit of another one a while back. This one smells better, but I'm still not impressed.

Taste/Mouthfeel: It was kind of warm, so that's not good. A lot like Heineken Lager with these categories, only more watery and less carbonated.

Drinkability: It's water and it's not gross, so it's drinkable.

Overall: I don't know why you would bother picking this over regular Heineken, which is pretty tame to begin with.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a pint glass

Pours a crystal clear very pale yellow color with lots of foamy white head. Leaves no lacing at all. Lots of carbination bubbles visible

Not much going on in the nose, the most dominant smell is that of corn then the slightest hint of malts. As with many beers in green bottles there is a skunky smell from being light struck.

The Taste is really, really light. Unlike Heineken Lager there is no real bitterness to speak of, there is however a somewhat sweet taste, and an almost artificial flavor as well. Not quite as skunky as the nose would leave you to believe. Light bodied and heavily carbinated

Unfortunately this beer is not even as good as Heineken. Very watery and boring. Easy to drink on a hot summer day, but with so many other great craft offerings that are light and easy to drink as well, this one will not even be on my radar any more.

Pours an almost clear straw yellow with lots of fizz activity rising to the top and immediately dissipating. Not any head to speak of, other than a very thin ring of white bubble clusters around the perimeter of the glass. Smells rather bourgeois with just enough malt to be described as a beer. Taste is even less so, almost tastes like beer flavored soda water. Mouthfeel is about the same. It is rather drinkable because there is nothing offensive about any of its components.

Picked up one of the 5 Liter mini-kegs for the Champions League game today, all hail Lionel Messi! Poured from the mini keg into a nice tall German glass. Very golden in color like jewelry with a nice foamy head that has good retention and leaves light lace. Nose is slightly malty/grainy and that's it but better than some light beers I have had. Taste is also a bit malty and better flavored than many light beers I have had. Mouthfeel is light but creamy with appropriate carbonation. A coat of light malt stays on the tongue. Sessionable with a good price, one of the better light beers I have had.

From a green bottle to a pint glass.

Pours a crystal clear yellow/gold with slightly sticky white head. No lacing as it drinks.

Wham. Smells like skunk. Not very pleasant.

The taste has some slightly peaty/grainy malt character. Not very easy to taste this through the aroma.

Just another lager for the masses.

Once poured in my "bayern pilsener" glass. Look: Golden glass crystal color, creamy foamy head with medium lenght, never had a light beer with good head; Smell: Sweet grains, smoked malt and herbal hops; Taste: Sweet grains again, cereal and spring water, the ingredients from the smell disappear; Mouthfeel: Watery, slightly bitter, very soft body and medium carbonation; Drinkability: A like beer that liked the smell but with nothing more to highlight, because the taste and mouthfeel doesn's impress.

This beer is what we beer snobs consider shwag but people with little knowledge of beer consider a good one.

I will make this short and sweet...This beer is skunky and bland. You can not use green bottles and expect the beer not to have that skunky taste. It smells aweful to boot. On top of all of this, it is only 3.30% which is total suck. I went to Amsterdam and I do not recall the Dutch actually drinking this beer. IF you want to step away from the super shwag such as Budweiser and Miller, and take it to that next level, skip this and try something from Samuel Adams, Flying Fish, or Long Trail. Heineken brings the suck!!!

I got a few bottles of Heineken Premium Light Lager for free, so I figured I would pay attention and review one.

A very light amber body with a white head. I don't have much retention, and there is no lacing.

The aroma has some cereal, grainy qualities to it, along with a shadow of spicy hops.

The taste has more of those grain flavors that make me think of cereal, but it also has a slightly more pronounced hop profile, which is a good thing. Tasting hops at all in a light lager is a positive.

The mouthfeel is light and fizzy, which I guess is the name of the game in this realm.

Overall, Heineken light is hard for me to rate, because it certainly isn't terrible considering it is a light lager, but it isn't good either. Although I may not have encountered many, I'm sure the Light Lager could be done better. With that said, this beer tastes a bit like real beer and wasn't too offensive.

Poured from a 16 ounce can into a pint glass.

Appearane: White fizzy head settles a little too fast. Bright clear yellow body.

Smell: I don't know how they managed it but it seems to have a very slight skunk, even coming from a can.

Taste: Bland and unoffensive. What most consumers look for in light beers. Tiniest hint of hop spice. I just wish there was a little more substance to this beer.
