A: Pours a medium gold color, not really dark at all, a decent head but dissipates rather quickly and not much lacing.

S: Not really good with the smells but definitely hops and maybe lemon? not sure about that one.

T: Nothing complicated going on, hoppy and maybe a little pale malt.

M: Good carbonation level gives it a good kick.

D: Goes down easy and smooth.

Sampled from Heineken Mini Keg

A- Poured a bright yellow with a nice 1/2" head... no notable lacing... good signs of carbonation.

S- Nose has a good bit of honey on it, and some restrained hop aroma. Not getting much more off the nose.

T- Crisp flavors of slightly sweet pale malt and low-alpha hops. Not a lot more going-on here. Finishes clean.

M- Extensively attenuated... making this a very "light" beer in the mouth. Carbonation is a bit spritzy, and accounts for the only reason this scores above a 1.0 in the mouthfeel department.

D- Despite the fact that this beer is one-dimensional, it is somewhat refreshing, and quite drinkable.

Picked this up in a create your own six pack just to give it a try. It was the last of my six that I tried cause I wasnt expecting anything good from it and just as I thought, it was not a good beer at all.

Poured into glass. I was not impressed with the smell of this and the taste was even worse. Recommend that everyone pass on this...

This beer is actually better than most of the BA's give it credit for. You can hardly avoid Heinie while in Amsterdam so I just go with it.

Very clear gold with a proper white head. (In Amsterdam, there is even a government regulation on amount of beer foam.)

Smell is pretty mild; just some hops and hay. Taste is better than average; assertive hop flavor and bitterness. This is way more of a beer than anything from BMC.

Mouthfeel is fine and this is eminently drinkable. Just try a pint in a comfortable chair on your shady deck!

Had one left in the fridge after a party over the weekend so I figured I'd give it a shot.

Consumed 8/3/09- from notes.

Green bottle poured into a shaker glass.

A- Pale, straw yellow with a one finger white head that disappeared pretty quick. Pretty active carbination.

S- A little skunky, a little sweet and grainy. not alot here.

T- Same qualities as the smell, just weaker.

M- Light bodied, watery with some carb tingle.

D- Pretty crisp, I could see how it would easy to session, just not by me.

Pours a very light pale yellow with a slight head. The smell is very crisp and of rice and corn. The taste is crisp and sharp but of corn and rice, maybe a faint hint of hops. There is not a lot going on in the taste, it is the same as most american adjuncts. The mouthfeel is good, moderate carbonation, and a crisp clean feel. The drinkability is slightly above average, you could drink a lot of these, however, since there is not a lot going on it would be easy to get bored.

meh. poured light, clear yellow with a small fizzy head. smelled kind of bitter. Tasted bland, with a little hop bite. Light bodied and definitely easy to session, but not impressive at all. Just like any other crappy mass produced lager and over priced for the poor quality.

Big advertising does not a good beer make.

Over the years I have been handed many Heineken's and can honestly say I never enjoyed one.

Skunky, bitter, bland why does anyone buy this?

Any american mass market lager tastes great compared to Heineken, and for much less. Not to mention all the other europen imports that are in the same price range.

Poured from a bottle; golden yellow color with a thin white head. Smells okay, nothing special or too distinct. Disgusting metallic bitter taste, somewhat skunky. Bitter aftertaste lingers too longer for its own good. I would never buy this for myself.

This beer reminds me of being 16 and sneaking beers from my old man. I have to say back in 1990 it was a good alternative to, lets say mickey's big mouths, or old styles. But, it just doesn't cut it these days!

I don't know what they do to it but they need to get the "skunkiness" out of this beer. They would then be left with something that would be worth its wieght in salt to stand up to, lets say sam adams or something else it the price range.

Can't believe I never reviewed this.. probably because the only time I have it is when it's left in the fridge by someone else. For those of you looking for a macro beer at a micro price (usually $13 or $14 a 12 pack) this is your beer of choice. I mean it's a step above Budweiser/Miller Lite for sure.. has some a little bit of hop flavor to it. But it' just too watery, no head or lacing to it, barely any flavor.. just blah. And you're paying a premium price for it.. just for the label and the commercials everyone sees. Like most people already know, there are thousands of better imports better than this one... but hey, its beer and it ain't terrible.

Poured bottle into mug.

Appearance: Golden and clear with a modest but fair head.

Smell: Seems like there is a fair amount of malt aroma. There's something else going on here, too, but I can't put my finger on it.

Taste: Sweet malt with a slightly bitter aftertaste. Fairly smooth.

Mouthfeel: Pretty thin, but not horribly watery.

Drinkability: Not bad. It's a little bland for my personal taste, but this is something I could drink again if I were in the proper mood.

12 oz bottle poured into a Nonic. No date. Had with my friend from Holland!

A - Clear yellow straw with lots of bubbles feeding a billowing white head with moderate retention and some pretty thick lacing!

S - Aaah, the original Heineken skunk smell. Very fresh and delightful knowing it's not attributed to being light-struck. Light malts and hops that disappears pretty quickly. Or my nose instantly plugged up.

T - Sweet corn with a touch of grains but mainly malts and a kiss of hops in the mix that finishes it off. The beer also has a touch of salt but leans towards the sweeter side.

M - Crisp and light with a slick mouthfeel as it washes away clean.

D - I like this beer and haven't had it in a while. Delicious for a standard and easily drinkable. I could put quite a few away.

A friend included this brew in a mixed pack she brought to my place.

A: A pretty clear dark yellow with a finger of bubbly white head. A tiny ring of head retains.
S: Steel, slight skunk, and some funky, earthy hops.
T/M: Pretty light body but not terribly watery. There's a bit of sweet honey malt in there but the dominant flavor are those semi-spicy, earthy and grassy hops and grains. I get a good deal of metallic, too. Medium carbonation, dry, and refreshing.
D: I wouldn't turn this one down on a hot summer day. I'd like to see other brews from Heineken!

I drank this from the tap into a pint glass in Amsterdam, among a few other times out of the bottle in the US.

What a difference 4000 miles makes. This beer is horrible in the US and in Amsterdam its more than tolerable.

Never drink anywhere but around the real brewery and you're set.

The beer is gold with a white head.

It smells and taste hoppy and in the American version has a horrible bitter taste, and in Amsterdam it is leseened and makes it tolerable.

Pours medium pale yellow with a white fizzy head that reduced to a skim and no lacing.

Skunk and boiled veggie funk in the aroma. Some light malty sweetness comes through, but this is what it is.

The bitterness is what is distinctive for me. You get some sweet grain elements, as well as the overcooked vegetable funk, but this one finishes fairly crisp, and that is the only saving grace.

Decent carbonation and medium-light bodied.

Overall, there are worse beers out there. It is fairly clean, which helps in the drinkability department, but it still is lacing in so many areas that you have to really want a beer - any beer - in order to drink this. Not the worst, but why this is one of the top sellers in the US is beyond me.

Quality ingredients, smooth malt flavor, and sharp hops all ruined by that stupid green bottle. Usually the beer is skunky, so it just makes me blanche. When it's not skunky, an above average lager. It beats the hell out of any US production beer though, except for Sam Adams.

Poured a crystal clear, light golden color with a bubbly two finger head that quickly dissapated. Left a faint lacing on the glass, but that too vanished quickly

Smells of yeast and light malt, but has that typical skunky aroma that tends to accompany beer sold in green bottles.

It tastes very good. The faintly sweet malt comes through nicely and there is a very slight hops bitterness to the finish. It's exactly what I look for in a blond summer beer.

Like all in the style, it's fairly well carbonated, to be crisp and refreshing, but it still retains some body and character that makes it interesting and highly drinkable.

It's unfortunate that they persist in putting this beer in green bottles, so it can become light struck. However, I'm finding that there is a certain group of fans who like it for exactly that skunky aroma.

Overall, I find it a highly session-able beer for a warm summer day.

After visting this brewery before and tasting alot of this beer i think it only right that i at least review it as ive def drank enough of it(not my choice),this beer pours a pale golden colour with a one finger creamy white head with perfect carbonation and definately looks like a euro lager,on the nose its got quite a florally smell to it with nice hops and yeast aswell, and on tasting its pretty much your standard euro lager nothing special but its definately alot better than some other euro lagers i have tasted and must say anything that reminds me of amsterdam cant be too bad a thing.

poured out of an ugly green light leaking bottle into a pint glass. It's nice and fizzy with a little head, looks and smells like a proper pilsner or a light german lager beer.

The taste is where the character of this beer comes out as not so great - tastes like bitter, skunky, slightly malty water that's flavored like beer

In terms of mainstream, crap beer - I'd rather just drink mickeys than this stuff

Pours a respectable, creamy, one-finger head with decent retention. Completely translucent with a very light, bright yellow colour. Looks pretty refreshing. The head ended up disappearing after a minute or two, it looked pretty nice before that.

Tons of yeast in the nose; some sweet candy; a bit of wheat; alcohol; cardamom. I'm kind of into this smell, actually.

Very light tasting. Much less taste than the smell would suggest. Some bitter grain, no hop presence, some sweetness, a little alcohol bite. Not much aftertaste; a bit bitter. Doesn't really taste like much. Not well balanced in my opinion; this tastes like water with some bitter beer flavour.

A bit on the watery side but not horrible. The light feel suits the ultra-light taste.

I wouldn't really want to drink a bunch of these but it would do when the other options are Budweiser, Molson and Labatt.

This was my favorite beer before I was introduced to the world of craft beer. I still like it a lot though.

Comes in to euro style bottle, short and stubby.

The appearance is golden clear what you'd expect from a lager. The foam head sticks around much longer than american lagers.

Smell is not all that great , the skunkiness that heineken is famous for getting called comes through on the smell.

The taste is grainy but sweet and a hop or two had to be added. There is also a taste I cannot describe that comes though in the middle of the taste that made me fall in love with heineken.

The body is light-medium somewhere between there.

I love drinking this by the 6 pack , Very easy to keep drinking , that's why I suggest the mini keg for partying purposes.

12 oz. can poured into a small, clear-plastic airplane glass. Enjoyed at while reading Josephine Hart's "Damage" at 30,000 feet, en route to NYC.

A-Poured an attractive white head, light and bubbly, that receded to nothing instantly. Beer was a pristine golden color.

S-Spricy hops, bready and dry, crisp. Gladly, no characteristic skunky smell, as it was canned and not subject to the typical UV light bombardment of the green bottle.

T-Slightly spicy, floral, herbal hoppy flavors, subtle but still simple and straightforward. Hop bitterness is pretty easy to deal with, allowing the dry, grainy maltiness to come through strong.

M-High carbonation, medium-light body. Appropriate to style, with a crisp, dry finish.

D-There's nothing much better than this beer on a warm summer afternoon to quench my thirst and cool me down. Well, perhaps one thing better: enjoying this beer on a warm summer afternoon on an airplane on the way for a quick vacation. But, air travel aside, Heineken from the can has a much fresher flavor than the bottled stuff and is overall a ver easy-drinking brew.
