One of the best overall bars in Asheville, tied to the history of the Green Man brewery but you can find all sorts of beers here.

Laid back place, bar and a bunch of long communal tables. They have music most nights of the week and the night I was there had a very good bluegrass trio.

Prices were great, 3 bucks a pint for basic 4 to 5 for the harder and rarer stuff, service was good.

Overall, a great choice in Asheville if you are looking for variety but also has a better atmosphere than most bars. I recommend a stop.

I stopped for a beer here after a long night of great beer in Asheville, before heading back to the hotel. The decor is set up like an English style pub and they had some live music playing which was nice. Their tap list was (fortunately) much more than just Green Man, although I opted for the Green Man Mikey's Big Mouth Malt Liquor, which was surprisingly pleasant. The place is nothing extravagant and I don't think you'd get blown away by the beer here, but if you like Green Man and/or you just want a chill pub to grab a beer or a bite, this is ideal.

Great atmosphere. Sunday nights are the best with an irish music session featuring local artists. Food is good. The best thing though is the Greenman ESB on cask. All the time. That merits an outstanding rating by itself. My favorite place to drink in Asheville.

Visited here on May 31 while spending the week at Sapphire Mountain.

Atmosphere was very cool, very dark with the bar being the center point.

Quality of the brews was mixed. The Green Man Porter i had i thought was outstanding but i was very disapointed by the Duck-Rabbit Porter.

Service was good, our server was knowledgable and was able to offer Da Boss some advice on the brews available.

Selection was pretty good. If i recall there were at least 15 taps available.

Food was standard pub fare focusing on the Irish theme. Our burgers were quite tasty!

Overall a reasonably priced place. I think an establishment would have to be in a town like Asheville!

Stopped in at Jack of the Wood after spending most of the day hiking on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Our server was VERY knowledgeble of all the beers on tap and was very helpful in picking brews after a day of hiking.
The selection was plentiful and very satisfying. I chose the the ESB and man did it hit the spot.
The food selection was very nice and the hamburger I ordered was as good as I have ever had.
I will make it a point to stop in at Jack of the Wood every time I am in Asheville in the future.

Just up the block from Green Man is its distant cousin Jack of the Wood. Friday afternoon, FTB and JBug and Raquel joining ksak and I.

Atmosphere: A corner pub, wooden and a little dark. The bar is located in the middle of the joint. We settled into a group of stools directly to the right of the bar - a narrow little table. Outside seating, all around the windows, also available.

Quality/Service: Table service was prompt with a few more stops before we called it a day.

Selection: A few Green Man taps, IPA and ESB and Porter. The highlight was Catawba's Strawberry Rhubarb Berliner Weisse, a sickly pink-looking ale that tasted quite acidic and tart with a fruity undertone. Interesting even if it wasn't a joy to look at. The tap list was larger, befitting the public house name.

Food: We didn't eat here.

Cool place. You can walk in at random times and cool things are happening. My last visit I rolled in at about 4PM and saw a cool blues band. Beer selection is rock solid, particularly the bottle selection. There's usually 8-12 taps on and they are always of interesting options. This place is the "bar" for Green Man Ales, although there is a tasting room at the brewery. As a result, they usually have more than a few Green Mans on tap (which is one of my favorite Asheville breweries) - that's always a plus.

My wife and I spent a few days in the Asheville area. Had dinner the first night at Jack of the Woods. Nice dark woody pub atmosphere. They had a stage for live entertainment but we had recorded music, mostly old classic country...Hank Sr, etc. Good selection of local beers, had Green Man porter on cask.

The service was excellent even though the place was packed. A pretty eclectic / Asheville clientel. The waitress was beer savvy. The food was good and very reasonably priced.

I would recommend this place for those traveling to Asheville.

While driving into town, this and the Thirsty Monk were the first two places we came to. Managing a Public House last year (2011), this was a "must-visit".

Walking in, it was very dark and lit almost like the average "speak easy" lounge. Lined with Christmas lights around every wooded wall and terrace, these were the main lights except for spotlights on the stage. Had a homely feel to it and very inviting. There was a jam session that night and bluegrass wasn't all that bad to listen to!

With only having 2 bartenders, these guys worked extremely tough at getting drinks out and caring for each customer. One of the bartenders actually looked like Jack of the Wood (or the Green Man from Green Man Ales). Funny.

From what was listed, they had a decent selection on-tap with a ton of locals but then didn't offer much in bottle/can... Was a bit disappointed but only stayed for one brew so enjoyed the Old Victory Barleywine. Single malt scotches and many other limited bourbons were available also.

I suggest you check out their music calendar and come later at night! This place was very cultured and had great vibes coming from the street.

Nice location in central downtown Asheville. Decent sized pub, typical look. Big bar in the center, vegetarian restaurant upstairs, band stage in the corner. Ok so the second one of those isn't typical. They had four Green Man beers on tap (and the stout was also on cask) and another five or so outside beers on tap. Wait staff was attentive. Beer was average. Only had appetizers, mostly typical pub food but fairly tasty. Was there around 5-6pm one day, only a trickle of customers, so I wouldn't mind a repeat visit at night though I wasn't impressed with the Green Man lineup.
