Draft at the brewery in a short pint, October 2012. Deep golden in color with a low, white head. The underlying pale malts and citrusy hops of the original are very much dominated by woody vanilla and strong bourbon - bringing heat to the nose and palate. The subtlety of the base beer does not stand up at all to the strength of the barrel aged treatment - it’s low-key, balanced ale from the start. Not a fan of this one - seems like a gratuitous barrel application.

Had on draft at the brewery.

Not sure if what I had was bourbon barrel aged as it was described as "Whiskey Barrel aged St. Teresa's", but since is a one-off I did not feel like it warranted it's own entry, so I'll just review (tick) it here. I'm not a huge fan of the base beer to begin with, but the barrel treatment did give it a bit more flavor and complexity. However, as I have mentioned with other beers in the past, I feel these barrel aged beers work best with bigger base beers, and this is definitely not one of them. Again, overall better than the original, but that's not saying a whole lot.
