Bottle into shaker pint. Packaging was dated mid-January.
Pours dark ruby brown, bordering on black, with a thin, soapy khaki head. Settles quickly into a thin, soapy cap with a bit of delicate lacing. Nice tiger stripes as the glass recedes.
Nose is fruity, lightly roasty underneath, just a bit nutty. Subtle.
Taste is smooth, with a nutty, lightly roasty quality where the oatmeal is actually fairly perceptible in the flavor as well as the mouthfeel. Light chocolate and a bit of roasty astringency, with a light hop bitterness on the long finish, just a wee bit leafy. Nicely rounded.
Smooth and silky mouthfeel, medium-full in body with a silky carbonation.
Overall, a nice beer, and ridiculously drinkable. I was 1/3 through the review when I realized the glass was 3/4 empty. Can be fairly inconsistent in bottle format, but nice nonetheless when you get a good bottle.
