12 oz bottle into Great Dane imperial pint glass
A - Dark brown but with a lot of red to it as well when held to the light; foamy head of the pour that thins to a beige lacing
S - A bit of chocolate, roasted malts, hint of black licorice, maybe some molasses as well.
T - Chocolate and roasted malts, with just a hint of sweetness of the sip; roasted malts and coffee flavors assert themselves mid-palate, with just a slightly bitter lingering finish, from both hopping and the roasted malts. A bit of a smoky-tobacco flavor lingers long after the sip as well, and the effect is to dry out the tongue.
M - Just a tad thin; this is one of the drier porters I've had; carbonation is fairly low as well.
Despite the dryness of this one, it really is a pretty drinkable porter; really got to fight the urge to pound this one. Another strong effort from the always reliable Highland brewery.

A: Pours an opaque black with a creamy, thick beige head.
S: Aromas of cream, vanilla, dark chocolate, coffee, and astringent, herbal hops are present on the nose.
T: Notes of fruity, citrusy hops, minerals, coffee, vanilla bean, heavy cream, and dark chocolate fill the mouth. The fade is predictably bitter and roasty, with strong notes of cream, coffee, citrus, and dark chocolate.
M: Medium in body, dry, and a bit chalky. Carbonation is very intense for the style. Surprisingly, only a modest amount of silkiness is imparted by the oats.
O: This is a solid brew, but it really was not what I was expecting. Considering that the name strongly emphasizes the presence of oats, I was somewhat disappointed that I encountered difficulty detecting any distinctive oatmeal presence. Again, this is not a bad brew by any means, but I kind of feel that the oat flavors should have been more pronounced.
