American Pale Ale (APA) |  4.50% ABV

Availability: Spring

Notes/Commercial Description:
This American Pale Ale is meticulously handcrafted for full floral hop aroma and flavor. Brewed with grains from America's heartland - Simcoe for bittering, Amarillo and Cascade (both dry hopped) for aromatics - this beer finishes crisp and clean. Have a few and your freshly mowed lawn will still have arrow-straight lines.

I picked up this Spring ale during the summer and I feel it's a bit too far out of the bottling date. Appearance is a clear yellowish gold. The nose is bleu cheese and pine. The taste is lemon, pepper, and grass. Finishes clean with a little too much tart linger. I love Highlands and I would love to try this on tap during spring in Asheville.

12oz bottle picked up in Knoxville.

Decent appearance, golden yellow, slight haze, good white head

Wasn't getting much on the nose, some hops, a little sweetness

Now the taste was more than expected, nice hoppy bite, that light sweet taste, oddly not fruity though.

Mouth was perhaps a tad over medium.

All in all, a fairly enjoyable IPA. I find I enjoy most of Highland's offerings when down south, apart from St. Theresa's.

A: Clear orangish with about a finger of offwhite head. Very good lacing.

S: Piney hops and forest. Light notes of citrus. Perfect pale ale smell.

T: Strong leading hop bite and some citrus twang. Complex and layered.

M: Peppy and carbonated. Not too fizzy or too flat.

Overall an excellent pale ale.
