A: poured a clear orange with a nice white head that laced up after awhile.

S: Some citrus hops, and alot of alcohol on the nose, almost burns its so strong.

T: Amazingly smooth and refreshing, cant notice the alcohol at all. Viscously sweet. Nice bitter finish.

M: Sticky, sweet, and bitter. Very similar to barley wine.

D: For 9.2 alcohol it isnt noticeable in the taste but u can feel it. Highly drinkable beer, I could see using this to quench myself on a hot summer afternoon, or to warm up on a cold winter night, a really tasty and versatile beer.

No bottling date that I can find.

A: Pours a clear ruby red. Tall, very tall frothy light tan head. Good head retention as it sticks around quite well. Moderate, fluffy bits of lacing.

S: Wheaty for sure. Loaded with sweet grains. Lightly floral. Touch of pine perhaps?

T: Oh yeah, definitely piney up front with a little floral action too. Instant sweet, sweet graininess that's hard to really describe accurately. Spicy pine again in the finish with a decent wave of bitterness. Herbal and spicy in fact. Lingering herbal spiciness and just a hint of flowers.

M: Medium bodied, sweet up front. Spicy and lightly dry in the finish.

O: Nice spicy, hoppy wheat wine. Hoppiness keeps this one from being too one-note and bland. This really isn't far from a big american barleywine if I'm honest (like Bigfoot). Just extra wheaty I suppose. Tasty.

From BeerAdvocate magazine Issue #65 (June 2012):

LOOK: Hazed-over straw, epic head retention

SMELL: Nougat, orange pith, boozy alcohol, white cherries, grassy, almonds, white pepper, mandarin oranges, bread crust

TASTE: Smooth, sublimely creamy, full bodied, loaf of bread, Grape Nuts, fermented wheat twang, bitter, boozy, chalky, inner sweetness, lemon peel, husky, melon rind, peppery, rose water, yeast, dried grassy finish

Very bold without getting in our faces too much, this is a massive ale, but that’s expected for this style … a style that is still being defined. Cheers to Marin Brewing Co. for not hopping the crap out of this Wheatwine; the massive malt backbone is the showcase from the first sip to the last drop.

Short lived white head, dull orange body. Thin collar.

Wheat, lemony aromas.

Pretty boozy. Orangey citrus. Drinks above its stated abv.

Full mouthfeel, adequate carbonation.

Well obviously I suck at reviewing wheatwines because I'm not pulling much out of this guy besides an all encompassing citrus and alcohol. I like it overall. Need more wheatwines apparently. kojevergas...thanks bud!

Marin Star Brew. 2010 vintage. Tapped at a SoCal beer bar during a barleywine event. Reviewed from notes taken last weekend. Served on-draught into a New Belgium stem-goblet.

A: Pours a half finger head of beige colour, nice cream and thickness, and bad (~30 second) retention. Little lacing. No yeast particles are visible. No bubble show. Body colour is a vibrant copper. Transparent; opaque.

Sm: Clean floral hops, juicy citrus fruit esters, and evocative bright fruit. Clean. I don't get much wheat - at least not in a hefeweizen sense; the filtration might have something to with that. Strawberry fruit notes. A bit of clove. Not much yeast or alcohol comes through. Complex and inviting.

T: Juicy citrus and floral esters, with some light spicy phenols as well. Balanced and refreshing, with a clean wheat and barley build. Pleasant and tasty. I quite like it. Little yeast or alcohol comes through. Clove. Perhaps light strawberry, but maybe hop-emergent. Not real malty at all; the wheat gives it a good body without drawing too much attention to itself. I like that subtlety a lot.

Mf: Smooth, wet, clean, and refreshing. Light in body for a wheatwine. It suits the flavour profile well. Juicy. Perfect carbonation. Good palate presence. Wow.

Dr: Highly drinkable for the ABV; I could easily down a bomber of this. Hides its ABV well. I'd definitely have it again. One of the better beers I've had from Marin. Refreshing and enjoyable. One of the better wheatwines in recent memory.

A- Fairly hazy, golden hue on the pour. About a 1.5 finger head that retains and laces very well. Continuous carbonation trails during the whole drink.

S- Light, crisp, and refreshing. Reminds you of the typical Belgian witbiers, but with more complexity. Hints of a few hops are in there, but nothing too bittering. Some grassy notes even peek in.

T- Light and crisp again like the scent, but a little heavier towards the end. Wheat takes over the middle part of the drink with a lighter flavor profile that lingers on the back of your tongue. Malt presence is also felt towards the end, with some heavier flavor notes and a few hints of hops. Ends fairly dry.

M- Fairly carbonated and a little heavy on the alcohol. Fairly creamy and not too bad to drink for a while.

Overall, this is a good beer, but didn't blow me away. A solid beer if you're looking for something different.
