Poured into my standard tulip

A - Straw gold, nice head, persistent lace. Murky like a hefe.

S - Almost German, or Belgium nose , with that grassy wheat hefe blend.

T - I get a mix of hefe and complex Belgium.. candy and wheat. A very different beer.

M - Foamy, not exceptional.

D - Not cloying, fun to drink.

A little bit darker on the SRM scale than your average hefe, this one leaned darker yellow, almost amber. Aroma was wheat first, then hops, yeast kinda absent.

The yeast did contribute in the taste and mouthfeel. Hops were amply present for style. Some apple and lesser banana notes. As always, in an expensive and somewhat inconvenient bomber format.

I'd call this a wheat malt liquor. It's really an American wheat style with a slight bump in alcohol. For that style, it would rate really high, IMO, but it's not much of a Hefeweizen. Only some faint fruity flavors, a very modest spiciness. Some citrus flavors, a hint of bubblegum. Malty but thin bodied. Sharp taste with not much weight behind it. Attractive light foamy appearance in the big chalice.

22 oz bottle from Beer Revolution in Oakland. Seems like a rather nondescript beer, whatever style this may be, but it's very drinkable.

A: Three inches of billowing white colored head formed when this was poured, and it was a long settle. The beer is a bright and cloudy orange color. Once the head settle & retained a quarter inch, a half inch of light sticky lacing remained.

S: Mild clove, kiss of banana, some orange peel.

T: Light orange peel, yeasty, bread, biscuits. Malt and grains are on the light side, taste wise anyway.

M: Medium to high carbonation, mild dryness, and a light heft mouth.

O: Average, or just decent. A draft experience might change my opinion, since this was off a non-refrigerate shelf (at purchase, beer was served chilled) and Hefe's are better fresh.

Damn you Bevmo sales!

Marin Brewing is always a mixed bag in my experiences - either I'm going to be stoked by an underrated beer....or I'll be drinking doppel weizen.

A - Pours straw yellow with visible carbonation and a fat head.

S - Soapy apple juice. Sweet, but thin ... yeah kinda like apple juice.

T - Apple and mild citrus, with yeasty wheat flavors. Fruity but without any refreshing qualities that I like in lighter beers.

M - Thin. Thin. Thin. And highly carbonated.

D - Ultimately I wish it was more zesty and refreshing, but alas they can't all be winners.

Picked up on my recent trip to San Diego. I have always been a huge fan of Marin's beers, and they are one of the breweries I miss most from California. This one poured a ruddy brownish color, with a good fluffy off-white head. Malty, refreshing, good bananas and brown spice.

Hazy light brown and dark yellow. Wheat aroma.

Appreciated the addition of hops that you don't see in this style. Apples and something else fruity. Lemon and banana possibly. Saaz and cascade hops. A neat foray and change of the style, another good effort to smackdown boring purists with. Still not my cup of tea, but gotta respect the change. A good price, especially for a Marin beer.

Pours cloudy brown with a touch of gold. Nose has some bruised banana and toasted wheat cracker. On the palate the bruised banana comes through as well but the focus is more on the wheaty flavors. Finishes malty sweet. Comes across unlike a true to style hefe-weizen.

The color when poured into a glass was a medium, hazy, deep yellow with a orange hue and no foam. The first sniff showed evidence of sweet fruit, with a hint of yeast. The taste had a sweet/tart yeasty flavor, with a hint of orange and banana's. The tart/acidic is from the orange. I like it because it was sort of a different flavor than other Doppelweizen's.

On tap at the brewpub. Poured into a 10 oz glass. Comes in at 7.9%.

A-Pours a cloudy brownish yellow with an extremely timy spec of white ring.

S-It was served with a lemon in the glass so that took away from some of the aroma. I get a little wheat and a smell that reminds me of canned fruit cocktail.

T-The initial taste is of lemon and pineapple soaked in some booze. There is some wheat but the boozy citrus quickly erases that flavor. It is somehwat grainy in the back.

M-Lighter bodied and lightly carbonated.

D-Meh. Boozy fruit cocktail.

This beer used to taste better. I'm not sure if this was a recipe change or just a bad batch.

Poured a hazy light orange/gold color with little carbonation and a poor whote head. Nose is of some citrus, wheat and malt. Taste is malt heavy, not really crisp as this style probably should be but it is a doppel. Some citrus, faint wheat and thats all folks.

This is the Hefeweizen version, not the Weizenbock. This beer has the right photo, but the wrong name. Poured cloudy orange-gold with a lot of brown sediment in the end. Strong off-white head. Aroma is musty wheat with some clove. No banana or bubblegum in the taste. Lots of wheat with... hops? In a hefe? All in all, this was a good beer, but not really what I had in mind for a German Hefe.
