Goudale pours a glowing coppery gold with peachy accents and a generous white head which leaves nice sheets of lacing.

The aroma is of sweet honeylike malts with pear, apple and faint citrus notes. A slight musty grassiness as well perhaps from hopping. Noble hops I do believe.

The flavor is quite nice, sweet clover honey with apricots, pears and apples with a nice mild bitterness in the back of the palate. Nicely rounded and balanced flavors with just a touch of alcohol in the profile.

Mouthfeel is lively and on the lighter side of medium. Very smooth, a bit creamy and nicely carbonated.

My first French beer and first of the Bière de Garde style, Goudale is every bit as good as the Belgian styles I've been sampling of late. Very nice and definitely recomended!

A: Poured a clear gold, releasing a lot of carbonation on the glass but no real head to speak of. Nice lacing and color though.

S: Mellow estry and earthy malt aroma with crisp hops in the end. Smells a bit like a mellow farmhouse ale.

T: Wonderfully tart with hops and a distinct sweetness. Lemon in the back. This is pretty refreshing. The citrus overtones are very nice in this style. Certainly a little booze bite in there as well.

M: Effervescent, which goes great with the tartness and hoppy citrus flavors. The beer has decent body. Rather consistent throughout the mouth.

D: This is my best Biere de Garde experience yet. This could be my new really hot summer day beer.

750ml bottle 11-28-11 cork and cage

Light amber color, very clear. Minimal head, some lacing. average carbonation. smell is unique. Grainy, musky funk. Almost a wine character.

Smooth first sip. What i believe is a grainy pilsner flavor. Light sweetness. It actually tastes like corn to me. Bitterness and overall hop presence is mild.

Light mouthfeel and refreshing, but also a bit bland. ABV is respectable. A notable sweet adjunct flavor I am not hugely fond of. Pretty unique though.

750 ml bottle poured into an over-sized wine glass. Pours an orange-yellow color with a pretty decent off-white head, good lacing. Aroma is sweet malts, some floral notes, a little boozy, and earthiness from the yeast. Taste is similar with some caramel malts and a touch alcoholic. Mouthfeel is very active, medium bodied, and gives a slight metallic aftertaste. Overall decent, but not my favorite.

A - Pours a clear dark gold with minimal carbonation and a couple of fingers of head. This falls to a thin layer.

S - Medicinal phenols, banana, clove. Ok, if somewhat muted.

T - Medicinal phenols start the drink with the clove moving forward in the middle. Quite astringent finish works to try and clear the coating mouthfeel. Medium-long pleasantly bitter aftertaste.

M - Really good creamy mouthfeel, but with not quite enough carbonation to cut through it at the end of the drink. Mouth is still coated in the aftertaste.

D - Pretty good beer, but lacks complexity. Outclassed by others of the same style.

Peach gold body with a thin film of a head. Loads of soapy bubbles cling to the glass with some nice lace.

Aroma is sweet and crisp. Hints of citrus, spices, and light hops.

As this is the first beer of the style I have tried it is new territory. Flavor is much like a Belgian ale though lighter. Not as heavy in the malt or spice profile. Drinkability is excellent.

750ml bottle, caged and corked. Poured a fluffy 4-finger head with large bubbles, but dissipated rather rapidly.

Clear, dark straw color with a stream a tiny bubbles ascending up the center. Slight and mild, fragrant aroma of banana a malt. The flavor offers strong banana, mild spice, then some candy on the finish.

Medium-mouthed, a bit soapy and a touch syrupy, progresses from bright when first hitting the tongue to sappy and warm on the finish.

Not bad, but not all the memorable.

Pours a clear golden yellow with two fingers of white head

Fruity and spicey smell. Yeasty no doubt. A decent amount of citrus character is present, and not a lot of the horseblanket mustiness I'd expect.

The taste is almost like a Belgian Strong Pale Ale, but with the flavour turned down a few notches. Slightly sour finish, and a lot of sweetness on the sides of the mouth. The bitter finish is somewhat lemony.

Crisp carbonation with a light body.

A: Golden body. Small diminishing off-white head.
S: A pongy, plasticy smell.
T: Very bready with lots of umami. An unpleasant bitter aftertaste but not too bad. Its fruity, syrupy and also vinous.
O: Not bad.

750ml bottle into a tulip glass.

Pours a very clear copper with a solid white head. Leaves some nice lacing.

Smell is of sweet malt and alcohol.

Taste is only slightly funky. Percievable alcohol is surrounded by a semi-sweet malt base. Also just a hint of fruit. Finishes moderately dry.

Overall, this is a very tasty beer. Again don't let the other reviews fool you this is worth buying. Not amazing, but still an extremely solid offering.

Got it because it was a french beer and I was all: Say whaaaa?1?!?!?1 The French only make wine! Let's see how it is.

A: Pretty average. Light clear amber. Little head dissipates quickly. Some lacing remains.

S: Very fruity. Big grape note. Malty. Maybe some orange. A little mustiness is nice.

T: Fruit comes through big at first. A sweetness follows that seems a little unbalanced and gritty. Fades to a bit of bittereness which is ok. A watery finish is a real let down.

M: Carbonation is powerful and a light glassy finish. Sits a bit too light.

Overall the first sip I had of this was great: lots going on with the sweetness and the bitter and the various earthy and musty notes. But as I got more into the beer a lot of the weaknesses began to come through. Its a pretty light beer which doesn't pair will with the big flavor notes. Certainly better than an average beer but not blowing my mind.

A: Pours a clear golden color with a fluffy white head with good retention.

S: Grainy bready aroma with peppery hints.

T: Sweet flavor comes on strong in the begining leading to a slightly bitter finish. Slight notes of fruit can be noticed as well.

D: This is actually a quite nice brew. Very refreshing, but be careful that alc. content can sneak up on you.

A- Pours a clear golden color with a slight chill haze. A huge foamy head, good retention and lacing.

S- Malty sweet, fruity, pleasant....

T- A hint of alcohol upfront, a dry fruity sweetness. Sort of musty, with a grape peel sourness. Finishes with a grassy hop note.

M- Smooth, medium bodied. Carbonation is brisk but appropriate.

D- Excellent, I'd enjoy a few of these....

A - Pours a nice bright gold with a two finger fluffy white head.

S - Slightly fruity with some musty yeast smells, like a Belgian golden ale. Some spiciness and citrus also.

T - Sweet yet tame, slightly funky. Tastes like a light Belgian blonde ale with more sourness to it. Finish is clean, hoppy and sharp like a Pilsner. Very refreshing albeit not that flavorful.

M - Light and crisp with more than enough carbonation. It's got me burping.

D - Very sessionable, seems extremely light given the alcohol content. Yet for the price I would not drink this in bulk.

Not something I will probably buy again as it is not flavorful enough to warrant the price but it is worth a try. A French brewery attempting a Belgian style, that's a first for me!

Poured from a 75cl bottle into a Duvel glass

Pours a hazy very-light amber color with a thin white head

Ripe light fruit in the nose - apple, pear- with a sweet malt base

A nice malt base - a hint of the fruit as well. Some spice as well - pepper, coriander.

Light, crisp, full bodied. A nice beer.

A solid beer, but really for a summer day - very light for a biere de garde

A Orange, big thick head, course bubbles.

S Mostly yeasty, some estery aroma, not much hop, but that is appropriate to style. Not a lot of malt aroma, which is not to style.

T Nothing really stands out. There is a yeasty flavor and some sweetness. Sweet must be counterd with carbonation, since what little hops exist are difficult for me to detect.

M Medium body, good carbonation.

D This was actually a decent drinking beer, it was clean and crisp. I'm sure I would say the same about some light colored American pilsners, but this beer had more body and character than most of those.
