By itself, it's pretty solid. Combine it with Brutopia's Raspberry Blonde, to make a tasty thing even tastier.

Taken from notes from a recent trip to Montreal and Vermont.

On Nitro-tap at the brewpub. Pours a pitch black color with half an inch of tan head. Lots of lacing. The aroma is of roasted malts, peat, and chocolate. Nice amount of smoke. The taste is dark chocolate, peat, roasted malts and smoke. Earthy and smokey along with the chocolate. The mouthfeel is creamy and silky thanks to the nitro. Overall, a decent Chocolate Stout.

On-tap at Brutopia on 8/10/11 in a half-pint tasting glass. From notes:

A: Dark –but not opaque- black with a thin light-brown head that stays around as a small layer on top. Decent, though a little weak, lacing.

S: Toffee, almost molasses, and sweet chocolate notes. Faintly roasted malts.

T: Relatively sweet, with some milk chocolate notes. Light caramel character. Some more roasted/chocolate malts.

M: Adequate carbonation for a stout. Thin body that's definitely a disappointment. Bit of cloying sweetness in the finish. No alcohol presence to speak of.

O: I had this on the same day as Péché Mortel, so I guess it was a little unfair to Brutopia, but overall I wasn't too impressed. The weak mouthfeel makes this very drinkable, but leaves you wanting more. I was hoping for more of a chocolate –especially dark chocolate– presence, but only got the faintest taste, and the sweetness was a surprise. Yummy enough and worth a try if sweet stouts are your thing, but you can find better for sure.

Had on tap at Brutopia. Pours a dark brown colour with tan head and rings of lacing after each sip. Smells of dark chocolate and huge roasted malt. Flavour has lots of bitter chocolate, very full flavour. Quite a smooth mouthfeel. While this is delicious, the chocolate makes it a little bit much to have more than one pint of this.

A - Black and thick, letting only the slightest bit of red light through, with a nice little cap of tan head and little to no carbonation.

S - Once again very little smell from the Brutopia beer, but what is detectable is dark unsweetened chocolate and roasted malts. The smells increase as the beer warms.

T - Lots of dark bitter chocolate taste immediately hit you with the sweet taste of roasted malts, giving it the taste of dark berries. The beer is surprisingly unsweet and actually has some detectable hops and considerable bitterness. It finishes rather rough and bitter.

M - Dryingly bitter, yet stoutishly thick. Somehow, it almost becomes flat, as though there should be more carbonation, despite its being a stout. Ends up feeling more like cough syrup than a stout.

D - Drinkability is not bad, but stouts in general are rather heavy and thick to down all night. A little too syrupy to be incredibly drinkable.

Color is pitch black with a nice firm head that collapses after minutes.

Smell of burned malts, coffee, and slightly bitter/earthy. No chocolate!

Taste is burned, yet really smooth. The burned malts and the hops give the beer a nice bitterness. Body is medium and the beer is not sticky.
The name of the beer is chocolate stout, but I can't taste any chocolate in it. It is probably not in there. Nevertheless a nice beer!

Tried that one at the Mondial 2006. Low carbonation and no bitterness at all I would say. Dark as a Coca-Cola Classic. Tasty chocolate milk flavor and mouthfeel. Not very strong. I would have liked more robustness and more body. Too much watery. A nice one however.

Inky black topped by a dense, milk chocolate coloured head. Excellent retention and fair lacing. Very malty aroma with no hop presence and some dark chocolate. Moderate sweetness with light bitterness. Chocolate and roasted maltiness dominate the flavour, and become stronger as it warms. Overall decent balance with a sweetish finish that has some dry graininess. Smooth, nearly creamy mouthfeel. Medium body and low carbonation. Pretty good beer and one that I'll look for next time I'm at Brutopia.
