We showed up here too late for happy hour, and too early for live music, but found the atmosphere very pleasing. We didn't even know there was a basement until hitting the bathroom before leaving, but realized we should have sat there all along, since it was spacious and chill, and the vibe seemed best. We ended up by the back door next to the counter that the smokers all use, since upstairs was full, and that was the better-situated of two open tables on the main floor. Music was almost all from the early-mid 90's, which was cool by me. I heard a lot of tunes I haven't heard since high school. Although we didn't eat or check the menu since we had recently eaten, the food smelled good, and the plates being carried past looked tasty. There was a short list of their own brews, and a handful of other local/regional brews. Although I would try this place again in the future, it'd be for the vibe and to check out the music and try the food, since I was not impressed by the beers. I was hoping to try the chocolate stout (I'm pretty sure that was the name) before leaving, or else order some Cheval Blanc, but was not in the mood for another beer after our first round. The service was good, the waitress pleasant, and the clientele a mix of students to middle-aged from all across the professional spectrum. Worth checking out for the atmosphere, but far from the best microbrew on-tap in town.

I love Brutopia. The beer is outstanding and I would recommend the place to anyone. The only thing that gets me is the lack of innovation. I doubt that has anything to do with the brewer(s). I'll assume their location requires them to pump out the same beers over and over again. That's alright but I wish they were a little more adventurous. Overall the place is great, laid back, and perfect for sipping on a pint.
