Served in a Spaten mug at Hessen Haus

If you go into this just looking for a fun beer you'll enjoy it. The color is clear dark yellow with plenty of white foam. The aroma is a smack to your nose of lemon and maybe some of the carbonation tickling your whiskers if you're too close. The taste is lemon but sweet with a touch of grain alcohol. The lemon packs a punch right away, then falls of for a few seconds, then comes back strong, an upside-down bell curve of flavor. The body is on the thin side but it seems fitting for this beer's theme. A tartness lingers that balances the sweetness.
If you're in the mood for something light and enjoyable this is a good choice. Prost!

This is a very interesting beer. Picked up two bottles of this brew at Julio's Liquors as a nice summer shandy can really feel good during the grueling heat. This though...hmmm.

A - Poured into my Duvel tulip a crystal clear gold colour with a fizzy one finger head that rapidly fades, like a soda, to leave pretty much no lacing.

S - Well there's definitely lemon on the nose. So light malts too.

T - Uhhh wow. The bottle isn't kidding this is like a lemon soda that has a hint of malt in it. Very sweet and lemon fruit flavorful. Some light malts at the end but mostly is lemon soda.

M - Very fizzy feeling in the mouth, again just like soda. Not quite thin just feels like a sweet lemon soda.

O - I don't know what to make of this. I mean, it delivers what it promises (which is malt beverage mixed with lemon soda) but that doesn't necessarily make it any good. Glad I tried it for $2.99 a bottle.

A - Crystal clear pale honey colored body. Efferfescent, champagne bubbles rising. No head.

S - Tart, sweet lemonade nose. Mild bitter pilsner/kolsch hop aroma. Light and acidic.

T - Delicious. Sweet and mellow, light and lemony. Very pale beer flavor comprable to kolschbier, and the lemon soda is sweet and tangy but not overpowering. A nice blend of the two.

M - Very light and drinkable, this "beer" is like drinking Italian soda. Effervescent, clean, sweet, crisp.

O - Ok so you can't really rate this among beers. I know it is technically in the beer category, and is mixed with soda but it's still a tasty drink. Still enjoyable for what it's worth. Pizza from major pizza chains isn't authentic pizza, but it's still satisfying to eat.

.5L poured into a tulip and split 3 ways.

A: Clear yellow fizzy. Those are the three words to explain this one, nice bubbly head.

S: This smells like lemon lime soda, sweet and lemony.

T: This was really refreshing inbetween a bunch of other really big beers, clean crisp lemon taste with absolutely no alcohol (and there really isnt much to be expected).

M: lively carbonation served a great purpose here, it released lots of flavor and helped to clean my pallate.

O: This is a fun beer for a hot day or when you want something sweet and easy to drink. I will definitely drink again.

.5L can poured into a small glass tumbler (as no beerware was present in my friend's flat). Had this in Austria on a recent trip to Salzburg.

As you probably know if you're reading this, Radler is the Austrian version of Shandy, i.e. beer mixed with lemonade.

A: a thin, transparent yellow with white, fizzy head

S: mild beer and lemon mixture--stating the obvious, I know, but there's not much else to say!

T: mild, mellow, slightly watery but overall not bad

M: fizzy, light, mellow

D: moderate drinkability--the low ABV makes it easy to drink and the lemon flavour makes it quite refreshing, but the sweetness of it means you may not want it all that often

I like beer and lemon soda...why not? Served in an Erdinger weizen glass.

Beer is light yellow and very carbonated with a three finger head of medium and small bubbles that is slowly falling into the beer, aggressive and steady carbonation, color is really light and it is crystal clear. Interesting...

It kind of smells like 7-UP. Lemons for sure, maybe some sugar and lime...

Beer is sweet and has a citrus flavor at the backend which is unfortunately connected closely to a grainy acidity and some aftertaste. It is an unfortunately husky finish. Otherwise, for what it is, this beer nails it's purpose in life, it tastes like lemon soda.

Label reads "Salzberg beer with lemon soda"

Appearance is pale straw in color with impressive clarity. Definite lager qualities almost like a brightly clear cider. 2 finger head with mediocre head retention.
Smells of fresh lemon meets lightly sweet pale malts. Impressive natural aroma, quite a surprise for me.
Tastes as I would have hoped, fresh lemon joins a balance sweet pale malt base.
Mouthfeel is light body with a sweet light lemon finish along with a dash of sweet slickness.
Nice version of a low abv pre-made Shandy, this one caught me by surprise. Impressive for the concept, but not really my kind of beer.

Poured in a Stella glass, this is a light lemon with a lot of carbonation with a small white head. Slight lemon nose, smells like a lemon soda. Tastes like a sparkling lemonade, not overally sweet. Overall, a very light refreshing lemon soda-beer mix.

Appearance: Good white foam that go aways right away. Very, very pale yellow with great carbonation. Decent lacing as well.

Smell: Wonderful sour lemons with a hint of floral hops as well. This stuff fills the room with the smell. Excellent!

Taste/Mouthfeel: Sweet lemonade and some beer flavor. I'm a bit disappointed since the smell really impressed me. The mouthfeel also fizzles out. It's a bit too thick because I think the lemonade portion of this dominates and leaves a sticky feeling in your mouth.

Drinkability: Wouldn't be surprised if kids sell this at lemonade stands in the United States, let alone Austria.

Overall: Great promising initially, but disappointing in several aspects. That said, it is easy to drink this and definitely does not gross me out.

Love Stiegl on it's own, add a little lemon for a hot day and your good. Obviously this is dominated by a sweet lemon taste, but it's taste is authentic, not some sugery nasty extract or candy. Like the front, you get a little pilsner in there, but domintaed by the lemon in the finish. This is drinkable, but I can't imagine more than 3-4, but still good stuff.

Served in a Dogfish Head snifter.

Another entry in the fishing weekend beer fun. This one, bringing back memories of Germany and Austria from a decade ago, pours a pale jaundice topped by a half-finger of quickly-dying white foam. The nose is a simple combination of corn syrup, very light floral hops, and lemon zest. The taste closely resembles that of Lemonheads, though a small bit o' flowery greens is in there as well. Clearly, the limo (as the Germans call the lemon-lime-ish soda added to radler) overpowers the light lager it's mixed with, but it still tastes great to me. The body is very light, with a moderate carbonation and a ridiculously smooth and easy-going feel. Honestly, you've gotta like radler in order to enjoy this beer. I do, and I subsequently have never encountered a more drinkable beer. I suggest more people learn about what radler is and ought to be...maybe more would like it as much as I (and others in the German-speaking world) do.

Served in a pint glass

As we get into the first night of drinking weird things provided to us for guys weekend in Wisconsin, thanks to TMoney2591, I wonder why I am doing this. I know from my experience in Germany that Radler is children's beer. Simply light lager mixed with lemon soft drink to get kids to start drinking beer. So here it goes. Wow, usually I say the color looks golden or amber like a beer is supposed to. This looks yellow like slightly dehydrated urine. The smell however is far from that. It smells like Sprite. There might be malty sugar smell in there, but I could just be fooling myself. The taste has nothing to do with beer at all as far as I'm concerned. It tastes like artificial lemon flavor mixed with mineral water and bar mixer sour behind it...I actually think that's what it is. It's too carbonated for my liking, but you could easily session this like you were drinking slightly alcoholic pop.

A: pale straw, clear, fizzy white head quickly diminishes, this being 1/2 lemon-lime soda.
S: smells like steigl pils mixed with lemon-lime soda.
T: tastes like steigl pils mixed with lemon-lime soda. surprisingly, it's not too cloyingly sweet as i expected-the carbonation and artificial lemony sourness help in this regard. not too lemonad-ey like leinie summer shandy.
M: light-bodied, effervescent, fizzy. some residual sugars linger but not too much.
D: anything this low in alcohol gets a bump on this from me. also, it kinda hit the spot on a hot summer day at the pool.

S- Smells like fresh lemon soda and a little beer-ish

T- Tastes like beer lemonade, very light taste. There is a pleasant sweet lemon soda aftertaste.

M- Light mouthfeel

D- Very good drinkability

Pours a nice golden color with a frothy white head.

Very crisp and clean with nice carbonation and a slightly syrupy mouth feel.

Really not much to say about the taste of the beer, other than awesome (if you like lemonade/lemon soda).

Very simple and flavorful; a nice German pilsner brewed with lemon soda; it is what it is.

Very refreshing and drinkable, especially on a hot day here in the desert.

A- Mild to minimum lacing. Color is almost a faded bright fellow with a light popping head.

S - Smells like sweat citrus, lacks the bitter abrasive smell of many shandies.

T - The taste is very sweet and refreshing. Surprisingly, there isn't the same tartness you get when mixing a homemade shandy with lemonade.

M - This beer is a bit smoother then a light beer, very clean, with an every so slight creaminess.

D - Extremely Drinkable. Because of its low ABV and refreshing sweat taste, you are able to drink this beer without worrying about overconsumption or it wearing on your taste buds.

Over all I really enjoy this beer and make sure it's available at my summer parties. It is equally great on a relaxing day of nothing or after an afternoon of hard work.

Pours a clear and pale straw into a wine glass from a 500 ml. bottle. Offers decent retention of a half inch of white foam and keeps a light ring.

Smell is light and of lemon and a touch of grain. Taste is overwhelmed by the lemon factor as lemon trumps beer in this case. Feel is smooth and light and quite befitting of the concept yet the concept is a bit odd. Drinks easily and is quite refreshing and offers a relatively full feel given the robust carbonation. Interesting and refreshing....Great lunch beer with a salad and when a workout is in order..Otherwise a bit odd.

1 pt. 9 fl. oz. bottle into a nonic pint glass.

A - Pours an extremely light extremely clear yellow color with a soda pop head that disappears after a few moments. There is actually some lacing on this beer.

S - Smells like a light beer mixed with watered down lemonade.

T - The taste is actually quite good to me. A very refreshing and dry beer. There is a crisp lemonade taste up front and a light beer maltiness at the end. I also am getting a honey essence as the beer warms up.

M - When this beer is poured it sounds very fizzy like soda, but oddly enough the carbonation is somewhat flat. However, this is a clean and dry tasting beer that refreshes the palate.

D - This beer is very drinkable and refreshing. With a 2.5% ABV you can keep at these with no problem.

Ok, so overall this beer is kind of like Dr. Jeckyl and Mr. Hyde. The appearance, smell, and mouthfeel are not too good but the taste and drinkability are good. For what it is, this is a good overall offering for the summer months ahead.

Pours like watery lemonade. Some laz carbonation and a loosely associated group of bubbles at the top. Head, perhaps? Although it's not nice to look at, it's what I expected from a 1/2 beer and 1/2 lemon soda concoction. More carbonation would be nice.

Smells like "Euro Light Lager" with lemons. Skunk, lemons, corn, more lemons. I quite enjoy the lemons, though.

Ok, it's not bad. It's not great, but it's not bad. It tastes like a generic Euro macro lager as evidenced by the smell, but with a great lemony kick. I must admit that I am a huge fan of lemon soda to begin with and it seems like a great way to make a beer I'm not fond of quite drinkable and, dare I say?, refreshing.

Ok, not much going on in the mouth. Feels like watery lemonade. It could use more carbonation.

In the end this is actually pretty drinkable, but only as either a substitute for actual soda water or salvation from inferior alternatives. I would very happily take this over most BMC beers.

1 pint, .9 oz bottle poured into Dogfish Head signature glass (March 11, 2010). No freshness date I can find.

Eyes: Pours a crystal clear yellow straw color. Largish white dish-soap style bubbles fills the glass and receded quickly. Low retention and lacing.

Nose: Not surprising it smells a bit like lemon juice. Some grain in there also, but both smells are somewhat muted. Unfortunately it all smells a bit unnatural, like a drink mix.

Tongue: Tastes fairly good, but I'd bet money the lager is a lower quality adjunct lager. The lemon juice is clearly a drink mix quality beverage.

Mouth: It seems that they over carbonated the lemon soda and it smothers the beer.

Libation: The lager isn't great, and the lemon soda seems to be made from just add water drink mix and it doesn't do enough to assist the lager taste. That said I like the Shandy/Radler style, and this is a much better alternative than a regular macro adjunct lager for refreshment. Despite all the negative things I've said it manages to be pretty refreshing, and easy drinking. I'd absolutely love to make my own version of this with a decent lager and quality lemon soda.

Live review. Poured from the 16.9 oz. brown vertically oriented bottle that I received as a Christmas gift (along with many others) from Mat & Christine. I believe that this is my first Austrian beer. Perhaps the Von Trap family enjoyed beer from this brewery? Poured into my Samuel Adams Summer Ale goblet.

A If it were any more clear it would be water. Only a slight hint of yellow tint to the body which is devoid of even carbonation rising up. The head which was initially a nice 3 inches dissapeared within 30 seconds and is now just a trace across the top of the body. 2.0

S Well...Lemon Soda. I know that this is "beer brewed with lemon soda" since it says so on the label but really, I expected to smell something other than that. I smell nothing but a light lemon soda. 1.5

T A very, very light beer with what could be about 50% lemon soda included. This beer might represent the biggest swing in tastes from one beer to the next that I have ever experienced since I just tasted and rated Bear Republic's Big Bear Black Stout last night. This might be the absolute polar opposite beer. Anyway, back to this beer here. There is a trace of barley husk tasteable upon repeated sips. I actually like the lemony taste but not in a beer. I would rather just reach for a good lemonade. 2.0

M Very thin. The Lemon Soda adds a trace amount of syrupy thickness but not much. The feel is too watery for me. 2.0

D Only on the hottest of summer days and only if this is really, really cold. Again, I would rather just grab a country time lemonade to meet the same purpose (to refresh with a taste of lemon). Because Country Time Lemonade is an acceptable replacement for this beer I am forced to give it the lowest drinkability rating. 1.0

This is one of my favorite Sunday morning pre-football beverages, especially if I am going to be out in the sun getting dehydrated.

A - Looks like pale lager, but appears less carbonated.

S - Smells like lemon soda, but not Sprite or 7up, with a hint of grain.

T - Tastes fantastic. Not very beer-like, but it's only half beer, so what would you expect? It has a flavor more like a Stewart's, Jarritos, or Jones lemon-lime soda, coupled with a dry, clean pilsener.

M - Sharply effervescent and thirst-quenchingly refreshing.

D - Awesome. Unless you want to get drunk.
