Bought a 1 PT 0.9 FL. OZ. 16.9 FL. OZ. 0.5 LITER bottle from Binny's Beverage Depot in Chicago, IL for $3.49. Poured from the Yellow Tableclothed labeled bottle w/ Lemons & the Red Stiegl sign & " 50% Stiegl-Goldbrau Premium Lager & 50% Lemon Soda" on the back into a Stemmed Wine Glass. Has 05.01.12 on the back in a silver box (looks like a best by date).

Aroma- Strong malts and evident that there is lemon added in. Has a lemon drop candy aroma and hits the nose very sweet.

Appearance- Pours a 2 finger head that dies very quickly. Has a light golden body with great clarity. Sudsy lacing is left behind. Quite average.

Flavor- Has an extreme candied lemon and lemon peel taste from the beginning. Sugar and malts come in toward the middle of the drink and then a easy, clean finish concludes the drink. Fantastic!

Mouthfeel- Light-Medium Bodied, Medium-High Carbonation, Smooth, and VERY refreshing! Leaves the candied lemon taste on the palate afterwards!

Overall Impression- Just like I remembered from living in Wien! I'm so surprised that it gets distributed to Chicago but not St. Louis... Upset also. I used to enjoy this brew while hanging on the beaches with classmates or even enjoyed this with Wiener Würstchen at one of the local stands. If you see this one, don't pass it up! Very refreshing and perfect with or without a meal.

Enjoyed in glass out of bottle. Interesting and much better than expected. This combines a typical German Region beer with, yes, lemon soda. Refreshing and something to be enjoyed for a beer or two. Sweet and European "beery" with a mike's hard lemondade like taste is the only way to describe this shandy. Give it a try. Definitley above average.

Pours a clean pale yellow with a small white head. In the aroma, sweet lemon syrup. In the taste, sweet lemon syrup and citrus. A smooth and medium to lighter bodied mouthfeel, with a small dry lemon citrus in the aftertaste. Refreshing, interesting and different.

A nice summer drink. A shandy is on the surface a simple drink to make: combine beer and lemonade. But getting just the right balance is something that some bars get right and some bars don't. The Stiegl Radler achieves that balance right out of the bottle. If you're not a fan of shandies, this beer probably won't change your opinion, but if you like shandies this is a light easy drink.

The color of this mix is very pale yellow with a white bubbly head building, but disappearing fast, leaving little lacing.
It smells more like lemonade than beer.
The taste is very lemony, with very little beer character. It is what it is designed for. A thirst quencher for the summer.

A: A clear honey colored beer with a very thin white head.

S: Lots of lemon. It doesn't smell like fresh lemon as much as it does a lemon syrup or liquor. There's a bit of rosemary as well and something that smells like perfume.

T: Lots and lots of sweet lemon. Kind of like a lemonhead after you get past all the sour covering. The aftertaste has the faintest trace of lager yeast and maybe some pale malts. As the beer warms, it starts to taste more like a lager. The mouthfeel is a little syrupy but actually works pretty well. It manages to stay light and refreshing. Probably not something I would go for if I found it in a bar, but it's a great summer beer.

It's not everyday that you find a shandy on the shelves. The label says "Beer with Lemon Soda Malt Beverage Specialty". This one pours the faintest of yellow, watery in body with a one finger frothy bright white head. It is both one of the clearest and palest beers you'll ever see. The aromas consist of in your face, almost chalky lemonade powder. It's relatively sweet but not as overpowering as the Country Time lemonade that you get from Leine's shandy. The flavor consists of a surprisingly nice light lemon soda with a sprinkle of pale malt dashed in for good measure. The finish is more on the side of the sweet soda which makes this one very refreshing and drinkable. It's very light and drinks very clean. It isn't as artificial as Leine's so I give this one good marks. It's a perfect drink for a hot day, and today was a hot day.

Served in a Spaten mug at Hessen Haus

If you go into this just looking for a fun beer you'll enjoy it. The color is clear dark yellow with plenty of white foam. The aroma is a smack to your nose of lemon and maybe some of the carbonation tickling your whiskers if you're too close. The taste is lemon but sweet with a touch of grain alcohol. The lemon packs a punch right away, then falls of for a few seconds, then comes back strong, an upside-down bell curve of flavor. The body is on the thin side but it seems fitting for this beer's theme. A tartness lingers that balances the sweetness.
If you're in the mood for something light and enjoyable this is a good choice. Prost!

This is a very interesting beer. Picked up two bottles of this brew at Julio's Liquors as a nice summer shandy can really feel good during the grueling heat. This though...hmmm.

A - Poured into my Duvel tulip a crystal clear gold colour with a fizzy one finger head that rapidly fades, like a soda, to leave pretty much no lacing.

S - Well there's definitely lemon on the nose. So light malts too.

T - Uhhh wow. The bottle isn't kidding this is like a lemon soda that has a hint of malt in it. Very sweet and lemon fruit flavorful. Some light malts at the end but mostly is lemon soda.

M - Very fizzy feeling in the mouth, again just like soda. Not quite thin just feels like a sweet lemon soda.

O - I don't know what to make of this. I mean, it delivers what it promises (which is malt beverage mixed with lemon soda) but that doesn't necessarily make it any good. Glad I tried it for $2.99 a bottle.

A - Crystal clear pale honey colored body. Efferfescent, champagne bubbles rising. No head.

S - Tart, sweet lemonade nose. Mild bitter pilsner/kolsch hop aroma. Light and acidic.

T - Delicious. Sweet and mellow, light and lemony. Very pale beer flavor comprable to kolschbier, and the lemon soda is sweet and tangy but not overpowering. A nice blend of the two.

M - Very light and drinkable, this "beer" is like drinking Italian soda. Effervescent, clean, sweet, crisp.

O - Ok so you can't really rate this among beers. I know it is technically in the beer category, and is mixed with soda but it's still a tasty drink. Still enjoyable for what it's worth. Pizza from major pizza chains isn't authentic pizza, but it's still satisfying to eat.

.5L poured into a tulip and split 3 ways.

A: Clear yellow fizzy. Those are the three words to explain this one, nice bubbly head.

S: This smells like lemon lime soda, sweet and lemony.

T: This was really refreshing inbetween a bunch of other really big beers, clean crisp lemon taste with absolutely no alcohol (and there really isnt much to be expected).

M: lively carbonation served a great purpose here, it released lots of flavor and helped to clean my pallate.

O: This is a fun beer for a hot day or when you want something sweet and easy to drink. I will definitely drink again.

.5L can poured into a small glass tumbler (as no beerware was present in my friend's flat). Had this in Austria on a recent trip to Salzburg.

As you probably know if you're reading this, Radler is the Austrian version of Shandy, i.e. beer mixed with lemonade.

A: a thin, transparent yellow with white, fizzy head

S: mild beer and lemon mixture--stating the obvious, I know, but there's not much else to say!

T: mild, mellow, slightly watery but overall not bad

M: fizzy, light, mellow

D: moderate drinkability--the low ABV makes it easy to drink and the lemon flavour makes it quite refreshing, but the sweetness of it means you may not want it all that often

I like beer and lemon soda...why not? Served in an Erdinger weizen glass.

Beer is light yellow and very carbonated with a three finger head of medium and small bubbles that is slowly falling into the beer, aggressive and steady carbonation, color is really light and it is crystal clear. Interesting...

It kind of smells like 7-UP. Lemons for sure, maybe some sugar and lime...

Beer is sweet and has a citrus flavor at the backend which is unfortunately connected closely to a grainy acidity and some aftertaste. It is an unfortunately husky finish. Otherwise, for what it is, this beer nails it's purpose in life, it tastes like lemon soda.

Label reads "Salzberg beer with lemon soda"

Appearance is pale straw in color with impressive clarity. Definite lager qualities almost like a brightly clear cider. 2 finger head with mediocre head retention.
Smells of fresh lemon meets lightly sweet pale malts. Impressive natural aroma, quite a surprise for me.
Tastes as I would have hoped, fresh lemon joins a balance sweet pale malt base.
Mouthfeel is light body with a sweet light lemon finish along with a dash of sweet slickness.
Nice version of a low abv pre-made Shandy, this one caught me by surprise. Impressive for the concept, but not really my kind of beer.

Poured in a Stella glass, this is a light lemon with a lot of carbonation with a small white head. Slight lemon nose, smells like a lemon soda. Tastes like a sparkling lemonade, not overally sweet. Overall, a very light refreshing lemon soda-beer mix.

Appearance: Good white foam that go aways right away. Very, very pale yellow with great carbonation. Decent lacing as well.

Smell: Wonderful sour lemons with a hint of floral hops as well. This stuff fills the room with the smell. Excellent!

Taste/Mouthfeel: Sweet lemonade and some beer flavor. I'm a bit disappointed since the smell really impressed me. The mouthfeel also fizzles out. It's a bit too thick because I think the lemonade portion of this dominates and leaves a sticky feeling in your mouth.

Drinkability: Wouldn't be surprised if kids sell this at lemonade stands in the United States, let alone Austria.

Overall: Great promising initially, but disappointing in several aspects. That said, it is easy to drink this and definitely does not gross me out.

Love Stiegl on it's own, add a little lemon for a hot day and your good. Obviously this is dominated by a sweet lemon taste, but it's taste is authentic, not some sugery nasty extract or candy. Like the front, you get a little pilsner in there, but domintaed by the lemon in the finish. This is drinkable, but I can't imagine more than 3-4, but still good stuff.

Served in a Dogfish Head snifter.

Another entry in the fishing weekend beer fun. This one, bringing back memories of Germany and Austria from a decade ago, pours a pale jaundice topped by a half-finger of quickly-dying white foam. The nose is a simple combination of corn syrup, very light floral hops, and lemon zest. The taste closely resembles that of Lemonheads, though a small bit o' flowery greens is in there as well. Clearly, the limo (as the Germans call the lemon-lime-ish soda added to radler) overpowers the light lager it's mixed with, but it still tastes great to me. The body is very light, with a moderate carbonation and a ridiculously smooth and easy-going feel. Honestly, you've gotta like radler in order to enjoy this beer. I do, and I subsequently have never encountered a more drinkable beer. I suggest more people learn about what radler is and ought to be...maybe more would like it as much as I (and others in the German-speaking world) do.

Served in a pint glass

As we get into the first night of drinking weird things provided to us for guys weekend in Wisconsin, thanks to TMoney2591, I wonder why I am doing this. I know from my experience in Germany that Radler is children's beer. Simply light lager mixed with lemon soft drink to get kids to start drinking beer. So here it goes. Wow, usually I say the color looks golden or amber like a beer is supposed to. This looks yellow like slightly dehydrated urine. The smell however is far from that. It smells like Sprite. There might be malty sugar smell in there, but I could just be fooling myself. The taste has nothing to do with beer at all as far as I'm concerned. It tastes like artificial lemon flavor mixed with mineral water and bar mixer sour behind it...I actually think that's what it is. It's too carbonated for my liking, but you could easily session this like you were drinking slightly alcoholic pop.

A: pale straw, clear, fizzy white head quickly diminishes, this being 1/2 lemon-lime soda.
S: smells like steigl pils mixed with lemon-lime soda.
T: tastes like steigl pils mixed with lemon-lime soda. surprisingly, it's not too cloyingly sweet as i expected-the carbonation and artificial lemony sourness help in this regard. not too lemonad-ey like leinie summer shandy.
M: light-bodied, effervescent, fizzy. some residual sugars linger but not too much.
D: anything this low in alcohol gets a bump on this from me. also, it kinda hit the spot on a hot summer day at the pool.

500ml brown bottle

Pours a light yellow with a small white head. A light nose of lemon and a mild grassyness. Light, refreshing and very easy to put down, a little sweet but by no means cloying. One of the best bottled versions of the style ive come across. Worth a try.

M- Light mouthfeel

Pours a nice golden color with a frothy white head.

Very crisp and clean with nice carbonation and a slightly syrupy mouth feel.

Really not much to say about the taste of the beer, other than awesome (if you like lemonade/lemon soda).

Very simple and flavorful; a nice German pilsner brewed with lemon soda; it is what it is.

Very refreshing and drinkable, especially on a hot day here in the desert.
