Stiegl-Pils has a thick, foamy, almost permanent, white head, a mostly clear, somewhat bubbly, golden appearance, and very heavy lacing left behind. The aroma is of sweet, biscuit, barley malt and grassy hops. The flavor is the same, with a nice, sharp, but not harsh, hop bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium and slick, and Stiegl-Pils finishes crisp, clean, refreshing, and highly drinkable.

Re reviewing this as I happened to receive a can as a gift. Wasn't impressed last time Itried this but wondering how this will grade out with a full review. 500 ml can poured into a pint glass.

Appearance - Clear dark golden color that is rich looking as far as pilsners go. Few effervescent bubbles and 1 + fingers of head white head with pretty good retention. Very golden color is worth reiterating and some sparse lacing is left around the glass.

Smell - Grassy notes, some grain, aromatic yet subtle. Pretty good for a Pils.

Taste - Clean and refreshing, some light grainy flavors that don't linger on the tongue through to the aftertaste. Clean but a bit bland by Pilsner standards.

Mouthfeel - Low carbonation, medium bodied and very nice in the mouth overall. Good feel.

Overall - Note a bad pilsner, but I don't see how this is vastly better or worse than most. Although in retrospect this was better than I had remembered it.

A: clear gold, 1/4" white head w/ no retention - disappears almost immediately... nifty-looking art deco style label.... dumb green bottle

S: immediately strikingly similar to Heineken.... champagne-like aromatics.... old grain, oxidation.... typical honey-ish malt aroma from older Euro lager bottles

T: as expected.... mild sulfur overtones.... oxidation not as bad as anticipated.... healthy pop of hop and carbonic bitterness up front, lasts part way through the aftertaste.... lightly grainy-sweet.... overall, dominated by yeast character, champagne notes

M: really clean, moderately dry... some residual slickness, film left on palate.... mild effervescence

O: all about the bottle label? i don't know why you'd want to drink this otherwise.... tastes like Heineken or any other similar pale Euro lager

My first beer of the day at Green Week in Berlin on 18th Jan 2014.

Draught half litre shared with my wife served by a guy in national dress and inside a wooden beer garden type of set-up within the Austrian area of the festival.

Regular looking lager/pils golden, bright and clean: standard white head which lasted longer than most beers of this type.

No great aroma or taste, refreshing and crisp enough but nothing stands out or separates this from the thousands of other lagers/pils in the world.

Mr average in all aspects.

Stiegl Pils
,5L can

Stiegl, from Salzburg, is Austria's largest privately owned brewery.

Appearance: Standard crystal-clear yellow-gold body beneath a creamy, average-sized head.

Smell: Malt aroma dominates but there are some hops present. Basic.

Taste: A well-rounded, balanced beer that pretty much starts and finishes the same way. There are some floral and grassy hops threaded through but they don't particularly stand out. Very firm bitterness. Finishes dry.

Mouthfeel: Light-medium to medium-bodied with a gently crisp, moderate carbonation.

Overall: Basic beer. Accessible. Clean and well-made but unexciting.
