Had this near the Domplatz in Salzberg, Austria, while eating a spicy curry wurst sandwich.

Appearance: Pale clear yellow in a green bottle, reminiscent of Heineken. Clear is never a good color for beer.

Smell: Very faint yeast notes, not too noticeable.

Taste: Goes down like seltzer water. Slight bitter hop taste at the end distinguishes it from, oh, say drinking Perrier.

I would rate this one lower, but it complimented my wurst nicely. (literally.) (461 characters)

look: 3 | smell: 2 | taste: 2.5 | feel: 2.5 | overall: 2.5

Appearance: Pours a cloudy yellow fresh pressed apple juice, with a nice eggshell white head that dissipates quickly and leaves at best a light lacing. Very light carbonation

Smell: Smells almost wheat-like with a very bready up front kick. There’s almost an apple juice like tinge to the back of the smell.

Taste: Taste is bready with malts, yet crisp and clean, and again there is a slight tinge of sweet apple juice and a slight caramel feel. After taste is a lingering sweet on the edges of the mouth.

Mouthfeel: Very watery with little to no carbonated tingle. Very clean and smooth on the tongue, I suppose, but over all just very watery.

Overall: This is a meh beer. The malty/apple-juicey taste is strange in a lager and the mouth feel, while extremely drinkable, isn’t very compatible with the heavier feeling that the lager leaves in the stomach. (864 characters)

Pours a clean pale yellow with a white head. In the aroma, a sweeter malt, small pils hops, and quite a basic lager. In the taste, sweet malt in a quite standard European lager. A smooth and lighter bodied mouthfeel, with a small dryness in the aftertaste. For a standard lager, a step above a macro, but eh! nonetheless. (321 characters)

Pours a fairly pale golden colour, well mostly golden. Not a great deal of head, fairly loosely dispersed with no carbs to feed it. Really, standard lager appearance.

A fair bit of bread yeast on the nose which I could smell from several inches away. Little bit of honey as well, has that unfortunate Beez Neez character. Not that great, really.

Yeah, that unfortunate honey continues on the front palate and throughout to the finish. A little bit of bittering hop on the back, but very smothered by the syrupy character. Can't really recommend this - standard lagery characters with an unpleasant cloying sweetness. Mouthfeel is quite smooth but that's about all that's good about it. Otherwise, very average. (712 characters)

Bought in Vienna

A: Pours a golden body with very little head, having very poor retention and lacing.

S: Light notes of straw grains, not much else.

T: Only thing I could taste is the off grain. Not pleasing

M: Light bodied and high carbonation. Fizzy texture, to much carbonation and a bad grain after taste.

O: Wasn't pleased with the beer at all. (357 characters)

A drinkable yet very average German Pilsner. Thishad a little hint of lemon in it which made this surprisingly better to me. Other than that, not much is special with it. It's yellow and crisp, Grassy to an extent but not 100%. Could be much worse. I would pick this up over most Pilsners out there. (299 characters)

A-Pours a watered-down honey color. Completely transparent. Bubbly and frothy head is thin. The bubbly portion of the had leaves circular lace via bubble explosions, and the frothy part leaves consistent lace levels.

S-Sweet in principle. Lacks that German hop aroma I usually detect in the style. This one is pretty sweet. But there is a touch of grassy/Noble hop.

T-An off-putting mix of sweetness and slight skunkiness. Lacks the piercing Euro-hop flavor that usually defines the 'clean/crisp' description. Perhaps the sweetest Pilsener I have had. I am assuming that this beer isn't brewed to a specific style and has been lumped into such category. Still, this is too sweet for me. Lacks the underlying components that make a sweeter beer delicious.

M-Lighter body. Carbonation is good enough. Kinda has a syrupy feel.

O/D-Didn't like this beer much. Glad I bought a single. This beer runs about $10.00 a six-pack; which I find to be a rip-off. Just doesn't cut it in my opinion. That is all. (1,002 characters)

Overall it is... alright. The initial smell and taste were bitter, but after one drink it got better. The appearance, smell and taste were all ultimately average, with nothing really special to note. Really it was not bad, and not really great - just beer. I couldn't help think of Hugo Stiglitz every time I saw the name of the beer, which made for a fun time :-) (364 characters)

Poured from a 330ml bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a light gold color, with a thin white head that fades very quickly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains lager yeast, light caramelized malts and some hops.

T: The taste starts out bready with flavors of lager yeast, grain and a thin malt character. Then some mild sweetness comes in. The hops presence is decent for the style and brings a little bit of balance. The after-taste is slightly bready and slightly sweet.

M: A little smooth and not very crisp, light-to-medium body, medium carbonation, finish is clean.

O: Not too flavorful, goes down easily, not too filling, mild kick, decent representation of style, it’s definitely not one of the better beers I’ve had in the style. (784 characters)

Served from a Weizen glass.

Has a very pale color. Huge head after pouring but doesn't stay for too long. Leaves almost no lace. Just a few bubbles rising now and then.
Has a pretty strong and malty smell.
Standard lager taste. I find the aftertaste more interesting, hoppy and quite bitter for a pilsner.
Body feels light to medium, crisp and refreshing. It leaves your mouth dry and makes you want another sip.

Overall this beer is not outstanding in any way but it isn't bad either. (487 characters)

12 oz bottle poured into Pil glass

A: Straw yellow big bubbly head about 2 fingers worth... settles to a ring with good lacing.

S: Little skunk to me... I'm getting a little malt and floral hops mixed in.

T: Little grass flavors, light malt mixed in with a touch of spicy hops at the finish... There is a little bitter aftertaste.

M: Crisp, sharp and wet... Kind of what you are looking for with a Pils.

D: This is probable is just what a Pils should be, but not quite like the other Pils I've had... ABV is good and over all not a bad beer... Worth looking for because it is from the mother land. (602 characters)

Purchased at the LCBO for just under $3.00 for a 500ml can. Served at 4deg C in a draught glass.

A- Opens well and pours a small head that is gone in 30sec. Medium gold color. Clear

S- Has some goodness here. Lots of malt. Fairly hoppy for a German pilsner

T- Has a bit of bottom end flavor. Not a Bud but close. Has a body that can stand up to a nice BBQ hamburger so that means the malt can stand on it's own. Not a lot of hops though but this is not a beer for that. Pilsner's are not my thing

M- Has a bit of creaminess to it that is enjoyable.

O- Pretty good but will only buy if North American beers like Bud or Millar are only available. Too expensive for what it is takes down the overall rating as well.

Food Pairing

This nice little beer went well with..... BBQ hamburgers. Nice regular ground beef no spices BBQ'd slowly watching out for those nasty flame ups.

500mL can into 0,5L glass.

A: bright gold. pretty much clear, however, there is some particulate floating around in there. head is cloud-like and inviting. bright white. good lacing.

S: noble hops. grass. dandelion. moss. very earthy aromas. a little bit of grain back there, but this one is mostly hoppy.

T: starts sulfury with a pleasant dash of german noble hop. earthy and bitter. after that, goes right into metal. pretty metallic finish as well. lingers and makes me unexcited for the next sip. blah.

M: solid carbonation on this lager. light bodied for sure.

D: i hope this brew is better out of the bottle cause i really cant move past the metallic flavor here. everything else seems solid, appearance, smell, mouth, palate is my only real complaint. otherwise crushable. (788 characters)

Poured from tap to a Stiegl half liter glass at Cafe Katja, NYC.

A: Pours a clear gold with low head, low retention and no lacing.

S: Malty with slightly sour yeast

T: Heavy malt favor with slight yeasty notes. Hops are mild but sulfuric in their bitterness character.

M: Highly attenuated yet smooth, not overly crisp. Quite drinkable. (340 characters)

My first beer of the day at Green Week in Berlin on 18th Jan 2014.

Draught half litre shared with my wife served by a guy in national dress and inside a wooden beer garden type of set-up within the Austrian area of the festival.

Regular looking lager/pils golden, bright and clean: standard white head which lasted longer than most beers of this type.

No great aroma or taste, refreshing and crisp enough but nothing stands out or separates this from the thousands of other lagers/pils in the world.

Mr average in all aspects. (531 characters)

11.2 Ounce green bottle poured into a mug

Appearance: Clear yellow with a little bit of white head that fades fairly quickly

Smell: Slightly skunky smell that also has a somewhat sweet corn scent

Taste: It is a little lacking in flavor but what is there is somewhat sweet but it doesn't leave the sweet taste in your mouth (which I think is a good thing because sometimes it is too sweet).

Note: Nothing exceptional but not really bad either, just an OK beer. Would probably be a good beer if you were looking for something cold and refreshing is summer. (558 characters)

A Clear light yellow with a nice head.

S Not much going on here. Some slight citrus. Some hay.

T Malt and a little bit of hops. I'm not getting much else.

M Light, crisp and refreshing.

O It's an alright beer. I'm sure I can down a few of these on a hot day with no problem. Not bad but not great. (305 characters)

First time I've seen this attractive red & white 16 oz can.

A-Pours straw yellow with nearly 2 inches of fine head, comprised of tiny bubbles.

S-Very clean and light, with a simple pale malt sweetness. Not very pronounced. Fairly nondescript.

T/M-Light and sweet, with low/moderate prickly carbonation. Body is slightly softer than I prefer in the pilsner style. Might be more successful if it had crisper, more assertive carbonation. Kellog's corn flakes graininess and pale malt sweetness is what this beer is all about.

O-Okay. (536 characters)

A pale looking golden color that pours a thickish head that evaporates to a thin film quickly. A little bit of lacing that is more spotty than anything else. Aroma is quite grassy or hay-like with a maltiness to it. It's not at all subtle but I can't really say I liked it either. There is somewhat of a sharp malt flavor, grassy notes, with a touch of spicy hops which is nice. Finishes crisp with a fuller mouthfeel than expected. Anytime I see the words "malt liquor" on a bottle I get flashbacks but overall this beer is decent albeit a bit middle of the road. I probably won't get it again as I can think of three Pilseners I've had in the past month that are far superior (North Coast Scrimshaw, Stoudts and Lagunitas). (725 characters)

Hazy golden color with floating particles. White foamy 3 finger head lasting around 5 minutes. Strong legs with subtle activity.

Faint aromas and flavors of grains with floral and herbal spices. Sharp and crisp taste of pleasant bitterness.

Light slick body with some nice carbonation. Well intensified but short finish, ending with slightly dry bitter mouth coating.

Overall : Average pilsener that is slightly too watery and lacking in flavors. (449 characters)

I found a 500ml can of Stiegl during a trip to Canada. The beer pours a clear pale/golden yellow copper with a fair size foamy white head. The smell had malt, hops, slight citrus. The taste starts somewhat dry and then finishes with a slight bitter hop taste. The mouthfeel is lighter in body with decent carbonation. Overall it is a decent beer that is definitely sessionable. (377 characters)

11.2 oz green bottle - with no mention of Columbus on my bottle

Stiegle poured a clear light pale straw color with a white bubbly head. Aroma is of hops and a little malt. Taste is clean, crisp, of bitter hops and no sweetness detected to counter balance [some of] the hops. However, is on style for a German Pilsner. Mouth feel is light, with tiny carbonation bubbles that are 'bouncy' in the mouth.

While Stiegle in not my favorite German Pilsner it is drinkable and is average or slightly above average. (509 characters)

A- Light golden hue poured into a pint glass. Small white head forms with a bubbly texture and fizzes down fairly quickly. A few small webs of lace.

S- Just a touch of grassy, floral hops above a light malt backbone. Not a ton of aromatic strength, gotta search for it. No skunking even with the green bottle.

T- Hops are there for me right away and they have a Pils feel for sure, I want to say they have a "green" grassy feel but I am not sure if that is the right descriptor. Grassy, herbal and a bit piney overall hops with a light cracker, caramel malt backbone. Yeast bread and light fruit character also comes into play.

MF- Foamy light body with a somewhat creamy overall feel. Bitterness on the palate in the finish.

Not a bad Pils when it comes down to it. I would drink this over many BMCs and other lighter imports. (831 characters)

A: clear gold, 1/4" white head w/ no retention - disappears almost immediately... nifty-looking art deco style label.... dumb green bottle

S: immediately strikingly similar to Heineken.... champagne-like aromatics.... old grain, oxidation.... typical honey-ish malt aroma from older Euro lager bottles

T: as expected.... mild sulfur overtones.... oxidation not as bad as anticipated.... healthy pop of hop and carbonic bitterness up front, lasts part way through the aftertaste.... lightly grainy-sweet.... overall, dominated by yeast character, champagne notes

M: really clean, moderately dry... some residual slickness, film left on palate.... mild effervescence

O: all about the bottle label? i don't know why you'd want to drink this otherwise.... tastes like Heineken or any other similar pale Euro lager (813 characters)

Poured from a 500 mL into a large beer mug.

A- Pours pale yellow, crystal clear, and with a 1 finger head that dissipates quickly. Minimal lacing to be found on the glass.

S- This brew smells quite grainy with a hint of citrus and a minuscule note of hops . Nothing too extraordinary here but it is pleasing nonetheless.

T- Bread-like malt, grassy hops at the initial taste with a skunky, mildly citrus finish.

M- The mouth feel is light and crisp with low-medium carbonation. A prime example of a summer refresher!

O- For me, this Pils isn't something that stands out from the pack but it is a fine example of the style that deserves a solid recommendation. I would definitely like to give Stiegl another taste in the future! (735 characters)
