The bock, from a 500ml bottle, was a surprising lighter pour of clear amber with brown edges, topped off by a small but creamy ivory head. Bits of sheet lace on the Bitburger glass as I progress through it.

Aroma is a different bird too, with a malty booze bomb with hints of orange and caramel. Sweet boozy dominates the quaff too, with a strong malt backbone. A grainy bock, with a smooth and dry finish.

Surprised, but not disappointed with this easy drinking 7% brew.

Original Stieglbock Malt Liquor has a thin, off-white head, a mostly hazy caramel color, some descending little brown chunks, and just a bit of lacing left behind. This was a 2008 bottling, by the way. The aroma is strong and gamy- the drinker will encounter an intense, full, brown bread crust and an old, cellared smell. The taste is equally rich- sweet, chewy, gamy, brown bread crust, light molasses, and an adequate hop bite to balance out the cloying malt. Mouthfeel is watery and a earthy, and Original Stieglbock finishes semi-dry, sharp, overly sweet, and delicious. This is a a bold, in-your-face, strong malt liquor. At first, one does not pick up the 7% alcohol, but after a few minutes a blanket of warmth runs down one’s body and your face will feel flushed and hot. This is the real deal. I think everyone should "man up" and check it out!

"2006", not sure what that is supposed to mean, must be 5 years old, interesting since I normally like bocks fresh.

It pours a dark brownish amber. Very nice looking actually. The head is big and foamy and leaves some nice lacing.

The smell is malt up the wazzoo. It smells like an aged can of malt extract or even just a bag of it, just pure malt, no hops.. Not bad, but not the greatest.

It is thick and malty in the flavor, and again, just pure bock-styled malt as the flavor. It actually isn't too sweet though, but it is a one-trick-pony.

A - dark golden. Clear, but not quite crystal clear. Bright White, 1-finger head, slow to disapate.

S - light caramel aroma, slight hint of skunkiness.

T - malty light caramel fairly well balanced, but malt predominates as it should for the style.

M - big body. Not quite syrupy, but the feel makes me expect more sweetness.

D - A little too and too sweet to quaff, but no problem plowing through an 11.2 oz bottle.

this beer pours golden cloudy, nice fulll head. looks a lot like a trappist...smells like one too. good fruity aroma with heavy hint of hops.

smells like it's going to be heavy but it isn't. Very drinkable and light mouthfeel. fruity aftertaste. very refreshing. I would definitely have this one again.

A: actually quite light in color for a bock, a cross between light brown and yellow. Not much of a head and meagre lacing.

S: Caramel, bread, earth, sweetness, figs...

T: All things listed above, along with a nice spicy presence and a touch of hops at the end. Overall, the beer is very smooth.

M/D: good balanced body and a decent carbonation. I like smoothness of this beer, especially from the 7 percent ABV.
Really drinkable!

Poured from an 11.2 ounce green twist-off bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: Thin white head and a slightly hazy copper/orange body.

Smell: Lots of caramel maltiness. Barely there hops.

Taste: Caramel malt, very slight skunk. Mild bitterness. Prickly carbonation.

Light amber with a yellow hue. Thin, white head that fades quickly, leaving some patches and a bubbly ring around the perimeter.
Smell is sweet, heavy malts, with some heavy caramel tones. Faint, nutty tones over some lightly toasted malts come in after.
Taste is sweet, spiced malts. Cinnamon, caramel, and toffee come in, with more toasted, bready malts.
Mouthfeel is faintly crisp, with a smooth and slightly sticky finish. Medium-light body.
Drinkability is decent. The sweet malts are a bit too assertive. Still, it's a pretty good beer.

Consumed 9/25/09- from notes.

16.9oz brown bottle poured into a big glass mug.

A- Nice light amber color with about a one finger white head that settled to a nice skim for the remainder of the glass. Some lacing.

S- A sweet biscuity aroma, very faint malts.

T- Picks up on the malts and drops on the sweetness. A little caramel, a little hoppy at the finish.

M- Sticky and medium bodied, a little dry on the finish.

D- Could definitely go for a couple more of these.

On a side note my great grandfather came to this country from Salzburg so I was excited when I found out where this one was from. I'm sure he would approve.
