Served on tap into a shaker glass.

A- Poured a hazy dark orange color with off-white fluffy head that left webbed lacing.

S- Pungent grapefruit, some tropical notes, and sweet malt notes.

T- Quite a bit of pungent grapefruit and tropical hops, sweet caramel malt, and some alcohol in the taste with moderate bitterness.

M- Big warming, light burn, fuller bodied, and a little syrupy.

O- Lots of nice hop flavor and a ton of malt sweetness. It is a solid DIPA that doesn't hide the booze all that well.

Appearance is glowing auburn with with a large, foamy light tan head that leaves chunks of foamy lace.

Smell is pretty hoppy, herbal, sweet orange, toffee.

Taste is also big and hoppy, leafy grass notes, pine resin, sugary malt, firm bitterness.

Mouthfeel is dry, chewy and oily, medium bodied.

Drinkability is pretty good. A solidly brash west coast DIPA. A bit maliter than I prefer, but has the hops to stand-up to it no problem. Pretty smooth as well, went down easy.

Clear dark gold colour with a dense, creamy light tan head. Great lacing and good head retention.

Sweet and syrupy nose with a touch of grapefruit. Too malty.

Sugary caramel malts with added syrup. Mild piney hops. Mild bitterness. Not an IIPA at all without the required hop freshness and bitterness.

Medium-full body with moderately-low carbonation. Not good.

Too thick and actually unpleasant. Sweet, thick and sugary. Blech.

On tap in Eugene brewery

Look is a deep copper prams tiny but thick looking white head

Smell is a very pugent Carmel malt smell, sweet very low hops actually

Taste is more of a web and red combined the 100 bus do come out but not as a harsh bitterness but a hop sensation that is sweet fruity and delicious

Mouthfeel is thick and hearty with a great aftertaste presence.

Drink is very good despite the high abv. With I could get a growled of it

Meh. For their listed 100+ IBUs this is quite malty and sweet with little else going for it. It looks nice anyway. Try the Bombay Bomber, their original IPA, which is excellent.

Appearance: Clear copper with not much head

Smell: Mild hops and some citrus

Taste: Funk and malt

Mouthfeel: Thick and syrupy

Drinkability: Too much malt and sweetness, which masks all other flavors.

Served in a 20oz imperial pint glass at a local pub.

A: Nice orange-amber pour and fairly clear. Not noticable cloudiness. Limited white head that subsided fairly quickly with lots of thin lacing on the side of the glass.

S: Huge citrus (grapefruit) and pine hops. And then more hops, and hops, and hops. Yum.

T: Not surprising, the hoppy citrus and piney flavors dominate through the taste. Also getting a touch of fruity sweetness. But really, this is all about the hops.

M: A little heavy with some sticky mouth characteristics that didn't match the tast. I also noticed the alcohol a little. A little chewy on the finish.

D: Torn, as this isn't the world's greatest DIPA, but it is dang drinkable. Almost too much so, in fact. The first night I drank this beer, I had three pints (at 9.5%) and really don't remember much of the evening. This is all about the hops, from smell though the finish. And it doesn't disappoint. But I would like to see a little more carbonation and lighter mouthfeel with this beer.

TV on the Radio Beer Tour Review #4.

On tap at the Green Dragon PDX.

I missed the BR Racer 5 keg by 5 minutes, so the informative barkeep suggested this as a (fresh!) alternative. I was not disappointed. Two finger creamy white head over clear orange body, substantial lingering lacing. Big hop presence in the nose with a good malt balance, a bit more bread than biscuit. I was surprised at how balanced this was on the tastebuds, with a fairly complex hop profile (citrusy/piney/faint grassiness) and sweet malt on the backend. Fairly substantial mouthfeel, maybe due to the newly tapped keg, and the alcohol was extremely well hidden, making this a dangerously drinkable DIPA. I'd sworn off the Steelhead's Ram-like corporate feel, but hey, I don't need to go into their sterile family-friendly confines to quaff this. Looking forward to having another of these soon. One of the highlights of the tour. The Monster is Back! Recommended.

Rawrrr!!!

An imperial ipa, alas! A welcome addition to any small brewery's beer list. Had this one ontap at their Eugene brewery.

Rich amber orange and quite clear.

Huge aroma of pine and grapefruity citrus. According to their beer menu, they "Added hops whenever possible; even at the expense of our own personal safety". Their safety be damned, I want hops!!! I wonder if many Bothans died to bring us this IIPA? Sorry, i couldn't resist.

Taste is great. A really good IIPA, without the overly malty sweetness or sticky overkill that some feature. It does hav e adecent mouthcoating resin presence, but its at good levels. A surprise find from a brewery that we almost just drove past.

I was psyched to see a DIPA among my choices. This one is a burnt orange with a tight beige head. It has sheets of lace.

It has a nice pinesap and citrus nose.

The 9.8% is well hidden by the hops. Pine and more pine, citrus in the aftertaste. The malts add a bit of taste that reminds me of a toasted English muffin. A bit out of balance, sure, but what DIPA isn’t to some degree?

The beer coats your mouth. It has nice low levels of carbonation.

Tough to drink more than two due to the high ABV, but this is a tasty treat.

Had lunch at the Steelhead today. Picked up this brew "to-go", since I had to work, and can't drink before work. It was a long day knowing I had this waiting for me when I got home. Poured from the growler into my glass with a big frothy white head, very nice head retention, slowly settling into a thin layer of foam. A mostly clear honey color. Not overly carbonated. Smells just the right of amount of piney hop aroma, and tastes likewise. 9% abv? I can't tell.... Mouthfeel is a bit thinner that i'd like to see from a DIPA, but not too thin as to render it undrinkable. Quite possibly the best DIPA i've had in recent memory. I can't wait to try the Cask-Conditioned version when it's available. Highly recommended.

This was a cloudy pinky shade of orange with a significant head which stuck around leaving decent lacing.

The nose mixed pine and pink grapefruit with the grapefruit to the fore in taste too. While the grapefruit dominated there were hints of malt, beginning with a rather biscuity flavour which gave way to a sweeter taste as the beer warmed.

Unusually for a hop heavy IPA this became more drinkable as I made my way through two pints. Thus it could be considered dangerous stuff!

Hopasaurus lashes out with a fat, juicy aroma of fresh squeezed grapefruit though this soon grows dormant. Hop flavor is prominent but well integrated into a genteel pale malt base with no excess of bitterness. The finish is fairly mellow though the mouthfeel is inexplicably raspy. Clear gold with no appreciable head or lace.
