Pale golden blonde with a cap of delicate, lacy white foam. Smells super fresh, grassy and grainy and a little gassy. Spruce, rye bread with caraway, and lemon rind. Snappy and brisk on the palate, with just the right amount of carbonation and bitter, resinous hops to uplift the doughy malts. Just about everything I want in a pilsner.

Bottle brought home from Austria. Poured into a standard pilsner glass.

The appearance is quite nice. The beer is bubbly and golden, almost lemony yellow in tone. The head is gorgeous and enduring. It hung around with me during the course of my enjoyment.

the odors comming from this concotion are the best part of the experience. Clean? yes. Crispy? yes. hoppy? yes. malty? yes. grassy? yes. All of these are meshed together in perfect balance to what culminates with an olfactory orgasm.

taste is less sharp/balanced than the smell but above average nonetheless. The taste is of course bitter but not insultingly so like some American style pilsners. There is a showcase of other flavors that add nicely to the bitterness such as cereal grains, yeast and fruits like pear/apple.

the mouthfeel is sparkling and drying. Drinkability is off the charts.

a tremendous beer. The comparisson between this and other pilsners is night and day. after all, this is some Reinheitsgebot shit that's been perfected over many years.

Cheers to some expert friends in the area for recommending this instead of just going for the usual hell and Edelstoff (both of which I like, too). Had this at the Grossgastatte. As usual, when something is bottle-only, the locals tend to give you quite the precaution!
Pours a standard yellow-gold. The waitress gave me a perfect pour while doing 3-4 other things at once, so I don't think getting a great head is much work for this one.
While I expected one of the maltier pilsners typical to Munich, this one is far closer to the ones I had in Bamberg. Freshly baked bread followed by a lingering noble hop note that fades into just a little bit more malt in the end. Pretty hoppy, and I like how the finish isn't overly abrupt, too.
Don't sleep on this - it's just as good as their other lagers, and depending on what you want, maybe better.
The only real knock on this is that when I did see it, a 12oz bottle is often the same price as a 1/2L of their other beers. I was on a beer-centric vacation, so I didn't really care...but for a local I'd assume this is best purchased at the store.

Appearance: Yellow-gold color. White head, fairly thin but persistent. Bubbles rising from all over the bottom to the top (in many vertical columns).

Smell: Strong hoppy, grassy smell.

Taste: As in smell, with a non-piercing bitterness felt mostly at the back of my mouth, in a rather ..."mellow" background.

Mouthfeel: Fuller body than what I'd normally expect from a pils. Just a hint of a pinch to keep things interesting. Slightly bitter towards the end. Mostly refreshing but with an attitude!

Drinkability: You want more of it. A refreshing pils with a medium-full body that makes you think you need one more to quench your thirst.

Brown 33cl bottle, best before May 2009, drank Jan 2009.

Poured into a Veltins Pilsner tulip (twice).

One of the clearest pilsners I've ever seen, very, very pale yellow, not even enough colour to call it golden. The fine looking white head that sat on top after each pour soon faded to lacing and wisps, shame.

Odourless, and I mean odourless. Even as the beer warms, no aromas could be found, gets my standard pilsner/lager score of 3.

Typical Bavarian pilsner feel and taste, clean, crisp and refreshing. Pilsners are not supposed to have strong flavours that knock you about and this one is no different. It does however keep it's charactor throughout the drink, I mean it doesn't go all metalic, or tinny and the last sip is as good as the first with no nasty aftertaste.

One of the better Pilsners I've had.
