Pours white gold with lumpy snow white carpet of foam with trailers. Nose is fresh cut grain, grassy hops and maybe a hint of DMS. Biscuity malts with some straw followed by spice and hay hops. Perhaps a whiff of sulfur. Sweet finish, tingling dry linger. Creamy, crisp, round and lively, light verging on thin.

Superbly balanced and very drinkable. At the same time, a few off notes in there, too. A better than average Helles.

Poured from a 500 ml bottle into a standard pint glass.
Best before: August 2014

Look: A pale yellow/gold colour, a lot of carbonation, a little foamy head at first which disappears almost immediately

Smell: Has a rather sour smell of maybe lemons, grass and hops

Taste: It is very dry, not bitter at all. Sour taste, too, but not inconvenient. You can definitely taste the hops. At the end it tastes quite bitter.

Feel: Stays on the tongue and leaves a convenient, dry feeling

Overall: A very refreshing summer lager. Wouldn't want to drink too many of them but still very recommendable.

The on tap version of Augustiner Hell is about as close to perfection as you find in a classic Munich larger. The medium carbonation and smoothness of the malt make it very drinkable. The lack of bitterness or sweetness makes it perfect by what it lacks. Serving was in an Augustiner specfic stange. I have tried the bottle and growler forms and the carbonation level changes slightly(transport, age) but the taste and mouthfeel are not really altered.

Picked it up in Berlin, and didn't have any clue on what I'd bought.
The bottle looked exciting and it was with it's golden colour and excellent taste.

A: Golden, normal head and quite strong carbonation.

S: Malt with notes of peppers. I could also smell a hop presence.

T: Extremely rich, new flavors and interesting notes appears all the time. A very culinary experience.

M: Quite thick in the mouth, it doesn't just slide by when you drink it, it satisfies your tongue.

O: One of the best, if not the best lager I've ever tried.

Definitely recommended!!
