Pale colour, clear, medium thick head which disapeared fairly quickly but some lacing was retained. Had a Munich, malty aroma with notes of orange. Tasted some subtle fruity flavours and Munich malts. Finish was slightly sour. Crisp texture, light body, well carbonated. Overall well crafted and balanced. Understated but classy, a beer for many situations.

Served in a .5 liter Augustiner Bräu glass from the bottle.

A- Standard export lager appearance. Golden color, good carbonation, decent head. No indications of anything unusual. Yet.

S- Again, everything you'd expect in a lager. Aromas of cereal and a slight grass note.

T- Here's where Augustiner really breaks free. Quite simply the best Helles Lager I've ever tasted. Flawless balance of flavors, crisp, clean, each sip makes you want another.

M- Light bodied as the style should be, refreshing, wonderful on a hot day.

This beer is the absolute gold standard for the style. The Helles Lager that all others should be compared to. Remarkable, and my very favorite of the style.

Got it from Germany.

When i read all this comments,i expected really unique lager, with exceptional taste. I am not saying this beer is not that good, but thing is that because this style is so common in this part of Europe,i need to taste something really good,so i could say it's exceptional.

A-White foam, lasting few seconds, yellow golden color with medium carbonation.
S-crisp,grainy,very pleasant smell.
T/M-Nice bitterness,grains,very drinkable.

O-Talking about Augustiner,i think that Brau Edelstoff have more reasons to be called best Helle lager.

Most people living in and around Munich agree that this is the best local beer to be had. No need to add to descriptions of the taste with all the other reviews around.

It gets even better in view of the company background.
They do their own malting and are the only brewery to tap from wooden kegs at their beergardens and at oktoberfest.

Absolutely one of the best beers I've evr had! In fact, probably the best beer ever! I enjoyed a slew of them in Munich and wish I could enjoy them on tap here in the US. It is crisp, clean, refreshing and everything else you'd want in a beer. So freakin' good!

From cask in Salzburg.
Salzburg is a beautiful city and has to be in the top 5 cities in the world to drink beer. The Augustiner in Salzburg is better than the location in Munchen.

Because the beer was served in a clay stein, the beers appearance was not readily observable. A slight head present. Smells awesome and tastes awesome. Sooo easy to appreciate. even easier to guzzle down.

this is an exceptional drink. I wish Americans could appreciate such quality and produce such drink here in the states.

A follow up on my desire to bring back to the states some great tasting Augustiner before all of this format here changed.

I recently brought home 2 30L Kegs of Augustiner Helles. Why? I was throwing a party for about 60+ people and wanted to show them all that when I have a party it's going to be one helluva beer drinking event. And that it was.

All beer drinkers, men and women alike, loved the Augustiner. Even some of the die hard wine sippers joined in.

We actually went to the brewery itself and bought the 2 kegs. A retired German baker we know is best friends with one of the higher-ups at the Augustiner company. Bringing back the 2 on a dolly that retracts was no problem either. The added freight fee was OK as was customs duty fees.

I didn't even have to put a deposit down on the 2 kegs.

A buddy brought me a random selection of beers from Munich, this was one of them. If I remember correctly he said this was the "cheap one that everyone drinks" haha, go figure, it's the highest rated Helles Lager! Just like Tannenzapfle is the highest rated pils...anyway, cracked this one randomly because it was taking up room in the fridge.

Pours a crystal clear golden color with a pillowy white head, decent retention.
Nose; straight up cereal grains and a hint of grassy hops.
Taste; grains, grassy hops, just a touch of citrus, nice breadiness throughout with a minimal bitterness in the finish.
Mouthfeel, slightly slick as the style permits, with a nice cripsness.
Overall; yeah it's flavorful and drinkable as it gets. Can't wait to visit Munich next month and get some more.
Anyone wanna try this thing, shoot me a BM, I'll be stateside in a couple months...Prost!
