11.2 oz brown bottle

Augustiner Maximator filled my mug with a clear dark amber hue producing an off-white 1/2-finger head that reduces to a light lacing around the rim. The light aromas of brown sugar, and toffee seem to dominate. The flavor is a little more impressive than the nose. Stronger flavors of brown sugar and toffee are noted along with dark fruits and toasted bread. The body is medium at its highest with a lighter carbonation. The mouth feel is a little creamy and slick.

Maximator is a bit light in flavor - not as rich as some doppelbocks. However, this makes for an easy drinker.

The beer pours a nice creamy off-white head that takes a long while to dissipate. The beer itself is a clear brown color with a reddish hue. It's little lighter than other bocks but still dark.

The beer smell is fairly sweet. The beer has a very strong malt smell with caramel notes dominating the nose. The beer has a slight grassy hop note to it but is easily covered by the malts.

The beer taste is not as good as the smell but is still decent. The beer has a very sweet and caramel taste with a light hop bitterness to it. In addition to caramel, the beer seems to also have a dark fruit taste to it but sometimes blends with the caramel notes. The grassy hop note also lingers in the aftertaste. However, the beer taste doesn't taste as rich as the smell leads it to believe.

The Mouthfeel is heavy bodied and thick with medium viscosity. The beer has some biting carbonation. Finishes nice and wet. However, the body feels a little light for the style.

Overall, a pretty good doppelbock and one I wouldn't mind dropping some money on. This one seems to be a good buy since it's cheaper than other imported bocks.

Deep dark ruby body with a thin off white head. Lightly carbonated. Sweet malt dark fruity aroma. Dark fruity taste with some light bitterness. Finishes wet but clean. Looks lightly carbonated but comes alive on your tongue. Feels potent at first but settles.

Nice red color, though one might hope for slightly deeper color in a doppelock. Head is a lovely color tan.

Bouquet has a hint of American lager. Downgrade.

Nice, malty flavor. A bit of sweetness and mold, neither of which fit especially well.

Mouthfeel is nice. Some richness.

Would drink it if it's the only beer convenient. Won't buy again. Won't finish this one I just opened.

Poured from a brown 11.2 oz. bottle. Has a cloudy dark brown color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of dark fruits, malts, alcohol. Taste is the same. Bready malts, dark fruits, some alcohol, but not as much as the smell would have indicated. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall, considering the abv, this is a very smooth, refreshing, and easy drinking beer.

330 ml undated bottle served in a pilsner glass.

Pours clear and with plenty of visible carbonation, but less than a 1 finger head despite a fairly vigorous pour. The tan head was reasonably durable.

S: Roasted grains; hints of roasted nuts, toffee and dark dried fruits.

T: Also malty with hints of raisins, dates, dried plums and roasted nuts. Lightly sweet overall but with some bitterness. Approaches 4.

M: Medium+ body. Medium-light carbonation. Very smooth and just a touch syrupy.

O: Very good.

Not as good as I had hoped. Will try again though for another review/rating.

Fancy gold foil topping
Good caramel malt aroma
Very little foam head upon pouring
A little bit on the sweeter side for a doppelbock
Good rich "bock" flavor
Reddish brown color...good effervescence

A good beer, I could certainly enjoy this beer on a regular basis

Not much to look at (no head, not very thick looking). Taste is pretty solid though. Nice caramel and malt backing. A decent and enjoyable beer. Not best for the style but still a tasty treat.
