The Maximator gets average reviews from this guy because I am not an overly huge fan of Doppels. Nevertheless the beer poured a very nice clear amber with thin slightly off white head that is not lacing. The scent is very malty and sweet. The taste is intensely malty with that belgiumy europeany sweetness. The mouthfeel is medium in body with subtle carbonation. Overall...its not bad....but its not preferred.

Pours clear amber, one finger white head goes fast to sticky lacing.
Smell is not so strong, but packs some decent caramel, toasted malts, toffee and very faint raisin.
Dark fruit steals the show in the taste, with sweet raisin, dark cherries, dates and dry figs, covered with caramel and very light milky chocolate. Some citrus juice and peel too. Malts are rich and go hand in hand with the warm alcohol, creating a cognac/dark rum kind of taste. German hops in the finish produce a perfectly mild bitterness that wraps up the extra bit of sweetness that tends to linger.
Light-bodied (not watery), goes from big to medium carbonation, but i expected it to be smoother. So it's actually a very refreshing doppelbock, with absolutely no cloying sweetness.
German precision. Incredibly easy to drink for its style, spot-on taste.

Body appears a nice honey-colored orange/red with a thick, foamy head. Malty, molasses-like aroma; apricots. Warm, bread-like flavor; rich sweetness; smooth hop bitterness. Heavy bodied; smooth and velvety on the tongue.

Another fine doppelbock from the Germany. Excellent malt profile with a deep flavor and rich mouthfeel.
