This was a beer I havent seen before and decided to pick it up,ours an extremely pale yeloow with a light wispy head, aroma is softly malty with a light hop bitterness that lingers.A very clean refreshing tasting brew with some mild cracker maltiness although I thought it was a tad watery in the finish and body.A real easy drinker here it would be great on a hot summer day.

Appearance - This is a nice, staw-colored yellow in color with a quality, pure white head.

Smell - The wonderful Munich malt somes out perfectly at the nose. There's a light touch of herbal hops but mostly this is a purebred MHL aroma.

Taste - The malts come out beautifully and there's just enough hop flavor to create a modest balance. The finish is long and grainy just like it should be.

Mouthfeel - This is a bit bigger than light-bodied and shows a creamy texture in the mouth and cheeks. There's a respectable bitterness from the hops as well.

Drinkability - This is where this lager was at its best. I can't imagine how good this would be on tap but even from the bottle this is a terrific session bier.

very aromatic and tasty beer that is a perfect example of the beer that germany produces. perfect head with a good amount of residual yeast floating about to contribute to that delicious yeasty flavor that most americans would consider unpleasant and foreign, but to the expert, it is a godsent.

It has a clear and bright yellow appearance. Thick, frothy, and creamy head dissipates rather abruptly to a thin suddy layer- but that's ok. Immediately after poring this beer, before I put my nose in it, the scent of Noble hops came right at me. Very fresh and green flower aromas penetrate through a thin veil of light malts. The gentle scent of sweet lemon peels makes this beer tantalizing to to try. It has a distinct sweet and malty flavor that tastes of honey biscuits. The grains are there, but not overbearing. Overall the malt give it a smooth body. The hops barely push their way through as flowers and lemon rhine. The alcohol makes itself a surprisingly strong impression at last. The carbonation is moderate and it has a very full character due to the southern-germany malt profile. It is drinkable. whatever that means to anyone.
Very smooth.
thumbs-up

You can't get Augustiner beers in Washington State, but I grabbed this one at Ledger's Liquors on a recent visit to Berkeley. By the way, Edelstoff translates to "noble stuff" in English, and a German friend of mine assures me that this sounds just as goofy in German as it does in English.

Unfortunately, this beer pales in comparison to Augustiner's Lagerbier Hell, which is excellent where this one is pretty average. I drank two bottles trying to come up with anything that would distinguish it as a beer, and I got nothing. I'd rather not repeat the experience.

Pours a golden hue with a bright white head, leaves 2-3 fingers worth of head space. Fine even lacing very nice look to it. Aroma has a light lemongrass/herbal hop note with light biscuit malts, slight metallic edge from the hard water. Flavor is great a fresh easy drinking helles lager right out of Munich. Light biscuit/crackers from the malts, herbal lively slghtly citric hops in the background refreshing as all hell. Very clean drinking experience this is an art form. Mouthfeel is light bodied carbonation is sturdy and natural never heavy on the palate no harshness to be had here. Drinkability is grab a sixer type of beer, at least a six. Great for the summer I'm glad fresh Edelstoff showed up at my local.

(Served in an Imperial pint glass)
A- This beer pours a crystal clear pale gold body with a creamy mousse white head that is supported by a sea of tiny bubbles swirl around.
S- The aroma of soft pale malt that is dry with a dry green hop note. There is a faint dried leaves and grain note that comes through as the beer warms.
T- This beer has a smooth soft dry grain hint with some dry honey malt hints grow as the beer warms. There is a low hop green note of noble bitter hops that linger a bit and a very light sweetness in the finish.
M-This beer has a light mouthfeel with a tight fizz finish.
D- This beer has a nice smooth beer but there is some nice depth of flavor for such a light beer. And it has a nice freshness to the crisp malt flavor.

Looks like your standard lager. Doesn't smell like much, slightly sweet, perhaps, but there's not a whole lot of scent here.

Taste is a little maltier than expected, and quite a bit less bitter. Very light. Tastes like your standard, run of the mill lager, but much smoother and with very few offputting flavors at all. Very drinkable, if slightly dull.

A: Super pale gold, crystal clear body with a white tight foam head. Fairly quick fading with no permanent lacing.

S: Crisp, clean, spicy floral. Very soft lemon touch. Yummy lightly toasted bread and multi-grain crackers. Really nice balance. Delightfully sniffable...

T: More lemon citrus, spice, bread, and fresh grains. Very tasty and clean with well defined flavors. Good even bitterness.

M: Prickly carbonation makes this entertaining. An excellent compliment to the bitterness. Very slightly syrupy texture is slick and smooth. Light body with substance.

O: A good choice. I could keep drinking this refreshing treat all Summer long.

Pours a semi-clear pale/straw gold, with a nice head of white foam. No lace here.

Nose is malty-yeasty. Very lager-like.

Taste is clean and bready, with a little sweetness balanced by a hint of citrus hops. Overall, an enjoyable, well-constructed, and drinkable German lager.

Augustiner Bräu Edelstoff
vom fass @ Augustiner am Gendarmenmarkt, Berlin, DE
,5L for €3,90 at noon on Christmas day 2013

Good looking glass of beer. Clear gold with a massive head of bright white froth. The head retention and lacing are exquisite. In the nose it's floral over lightly sweetish malt. The flavor brings out a bit more character with a little more bready graininess and less sweetness than the nose suggested, as well as more noble hops and a subtle note of apple-like fruitiness. Median bitterness is well-threaded through - a very round, balanced, and nicely polished lager. Medium bodied. Crisp and clean. Remarkably easy to drink.

Additional note: I tasted this side by side with the standard "hell" and didn't find much difference. It's just slightly darker. And also a touch fuller in character, but not by much, and at the same time a little less malty... ? More balanced, shall we say? So... I'd guess it's got a degree or so more Plato to it, a touch more hops for flavor, and just a hint of additional bitterness to balance that as well - OR, is it the same beer and just slightly more fermented? No, probably not.

Great session beer. Poured into a pint glass it gave about a one inch head that dissapated fairly quickly. It has a clean, light golden color. It couldn't be any more drinkable. There is a light lemon undertone and simply tastes like a helles lager should.
