Beer was shipped to me from John's Grocery in Iowa City, IA.

Straw yellow in the glass, average head, average lacing. Lots of carbonation can be seen.

Fresh smell, with notes of bread and citrus. Perhaps a small whiff of alcohol. Also, some spicy goodness that I can't quite describe.

Grainy bread tastes up front, with a huge middle...big malt thickness really comes through. Soft spicy hop trail.

Mouthfeel was round and hearty. The higher carbonation dances.

Drinkable but a bit filling.

I really looked forward to finally trying this beer. I can't get Augustiner in MN. It did not disappoint.
But the whole process was sort of a pain. It's expensive, $13.99 for 6. And who knows how fresh the bottles are. No dates, or bottle codes of any kind.
Give it a try!

For those who like Dortmunder Exports, this is the perfect Bavarian interepretation of the style. It is simply the reference beer when it comes to this type.

Full bodied, great mouthfeel, lovely maltyness, fantastic finish in the back despite it's low bitterness rate (18 IBU).

It is suprising that a drink with so much body and maltyness and high alcohol level (5.6% ABV) can be made being so bright (6.5 EBC).

This is THE example of the Bavarian art of brewing. I always have it when it's available.

Perfection in a bottle.

Poured from a 330ml bottle into a pils glass
A: Pale yellow with a one-finger head and a steady stream of small bubbles
S: Grainy, a fair amount of corn, bread and a bit of grass
T: So clean. Malty, a hint of banana, a bit nutty and a touch of herbs. A lot is there but everything is modest and balanced
M: Light-bodied, crisp and clean
O: This won't hit you in the face but instead makes you take a step back and contemplate it. What you'll find is a simple but pure & complex beer

Aroma: grainy sweetness with floral Nobel hops.

Appearance: straw color with brilliant clarity and creamy white head that lingers.

Flavor: grainy sweetness followed by clean Nobel hop finish.

Mouthfeel: medium-light body with medium carbonation due to being served on cask.

Overall: I am typically not a lager fan. However, this beer is excellent. Easy drinking with a wonderful balance between grainy sweetness and hop bitterness.

Good looking lager with medium carbonation. Good lacing. A lovely aroma of lemon honey and bread. A really nice semi carbonated mineral water mouthfeel. Beautifully balanced with pilsner notes but a sweeter overall finish.... just as a Helles ought to be. I wish I had several instead of just one so I could really get into the subtle flavours. This is a superb lager. The bottle is beautiful by the way! All lager fans should try this delicious beer.

My mark out of one hundred would be 83.

500ml bottle served in a big Weihenstephaner lager glass.

A: Pours an absolutely clear pale yellow color forming a big bubbled and creamy white head. Medium retention and some thin and lingering lacings left in the glass

S: Great smell of sweet grains. Very bready. Notes of honey followed by flowery hops

T: Sweet malts in upfront. Very bready and crispy. Notes of honey. Mild bitter hoppy end. Excellent balance

M: Such a smooth, creamy and, at the same light body. Medium retention and a delicious bready and crispy aftertaste

O: Excellent drinkability. I can imagine myself drink gallons of this beer. State of art German Lager
