Happily sampled at Tattenbach/Lehel and Augustiner Stammhaus this past week on draft. Superb example of Munich Dunkel. Augustiner beers all have terrific malt character and the right amount of hops for balance. Bready yeast aroma and some caramel roast in the nose. No throat burn from carbonation. Just the right body and mouthfeel. What makes this beer special for me is the subtleness of the malt from the top to the bottom of the glass. Fantastic drinkability. The Germans would say süffiges. I would happily make this a daily drinker. In Bayern and especially in Munich seek out Dunkel on the tap lists. Augustiner is my favorite in Munich, although Spaten gives them a run for my money.

500ml bottle. Poured out a golden brown color with a small, tan head of fluffy foam. It left sudsy trails of lace on the glass. It smelled of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate and toffee. Sweet malty taste with coffee and toffee.

0,5 liter at the Braustuben in Munich. Right around the corner from the Hbf (central station) so I walked here for a late lunch before checking into the hotel. Super refreshing, light dunkel with a ton of flavor. Super roasty with a touch of hops in the finish. Delicious!

Somewhat clear brown pour with a huge tan head and decent lacing. Dark fruit, german yeast, nuts, earth with hints of smoke, floral hops and brown bread make up the aroma bouquet. Taste stars dark fruit, sweet dark malt, nuts, and toast, with supporting earth, yeast, a hint of grain and a dusting of dark cocoa, absolutely incredible in how this melded together. Feel is frothy yet smooth, full and chewy, decently crisp too, very well made. The wife liked it.

De Labirratorium. En copa hefe de Bavaria. Jugando a Bloxburg con Asun. Dunkel bien hecha. Simple, sin nada que destacar pero tampoco nada que objetar. Se acaba en un suspiro.
