355ml bottle given to me by demcorhip, poured into a pilsner glass.

Pours a nearly opaque cola brown with a full inch of creamy head off a fairly vigorous pour. Leaves some nice sticky lace all the way down. Carbonation appears to be quite low. Aroma is husky and grainy with a hint of pepper, grass, hay, earth, caramel, cocoa and juicy apples. Clean and delicious, style wise it's a super solid aroma.

Flavour is all grains off the top, then turns nutty with hints of cocoa, caramel and fruit offset by a light, almost lactic sourness. Very pleasant and uncomplicated flavour, this is a session beer to be sure. Dries nicely in the finish, fairly soft in the mouth and carbonation is medium-low. Body is a bit heavier than I expected. That would not stop me from drinking a few of these on an evening though.

341ml bottle poured into a 16oz pint glass.

A - About a finger-and-a-half of bubbly tan head puffs up off the pour. Deep brown-black with lots of ruby highlights. The settles to a nice foamy cap. Weaves a nice web of sticky lacing for a bit, but doesn't stick around.

S - Earthy hops, roasted malt, and plastic upfront. Caramel, cereal grains, and slight coffee edge. Light chocolate notes too. A little more tame than I had hoped. Something odd in here I don't really enjoy.

T - Lots of caramel malt, clean grains, and a light kick of hops. Surprisingly light on the roasted malt and dark chocolate flavors for such a dark beer. Really creamy, with smokey and nutty notes as well.

M - Light carbonation, with a medium viscosity body. Really creamy and smooth.

D - My first Schwarzbier, and it was alright. There was definitely something a little off-putting in the aroma and flavor for me though. Decent dark lager.

A - crystal clear, not quite black, shows brown at bottom of glass and red flashes when held to a light. Small but tight tan head holds up for awhile, eventually dropping to a thin cap. Excellent lacing.

S - smooth coffee and chocolate, with an underlying sweetness

T - Magnificent mocha cream, some noble hop flavour kicks in, then some sweet malt. Aftertaste is roasted coffee.

M - Crisp and dry finish (wow, I didn't even read the label before typing this, but it says "crisp dry finish"). Overall body is light and refreshing, but not thin, it's enough to carry the excellent flavour.

D - moderate alcohol beer with tons of interesting flavours always do the trick for me!

If you'll see my review below, I must have had a bad bottle, because this is the Black Cat I originally remember enjoying. Splendid!

A tan head with big bubbles topped a brown body with ruby highlights. The smell was malty, with slightly sour yeast and a hint of chocolate. A bit of black cherry, too, maybe....

This beer's taste conforms well to the style: roasted (but not bitter) malts with slight bitterness coming from the hops at the end. Malted chocolate and some graininess as well, but overall this beer's taste was a little muted to make it memorable. The carbonation was low for my liking, but medium body helped beef it up a bit and keep it from being watery.

This is a pleasant, well-crafted beer, but not one I'd go out of my way to find.

Poured a 341-ml bottle into a long tulip glass.

Apparance - gorgeous dark beer, black indeed, with a beige foam head that fluffs above the rim of my glass. Very sensational - a great pour.

Smell - a mixture of sweet malty aromas but I also detect liquorice in the smell and maybe some dark caramel also. I can't wait to taste it.

Taste - a balanced start with mostly neutral malts with a wave of coffee and caramel coming up suddenly and intensely toward the end. There is also what I would characterize as a woody and somewhat smoky element to this beer. Not unpleasant overall but unexpected for never having tried the style.

Mouthfeel - not really smooth as the finish is watery after the intense flavours. Definitely a wavy kind of beer.

Drinkability - not bad at all in any way but I'm glad I tried this beer but would not likely seek it out intentionally.

A- pours a dark cola brown almost opaque, I didn't get much of a head, but I get some average lacing as I swirl it around.

S- roasted malts, some coffee notes, and I'm getting a bit of sweetness in here as well.

T- I get a lot of sweetness upfront, kind of reminds me of an oatmeal stout. This gives way to some roasted malts, smokiness, chocolate, coffee and a somewhat bitter finish.

M- a fairly heavy body and it really coates the mouth for a lager, but it works here. Low- medium carbonation.

D- this is a good beer definitely worth buying again.

A - Pours a clear brown with a ruby hue and highlights. I didn't get much head in the poor, but a little warming and swirling coaxed it out. Low retention however.

S - Smells of roasted malt, mostly caramel and coffee. A bit of herbal and spice, but not much in the way of hop aroma.

T - I like it. Dark toasted malt flavor, caramel and coffee again, with a nice bready backbone. Bit of herbal/grassy hop character. A bit of bitterness to balance. Nice dry finish.

M - Little thin, but it's expected in this style. Otherwise nice and smooth. Nice dry/bitter finish.

D - High

Bottle thanks to Presario. Pours a dark brown color with shades of red showing through and a nice thick light brown head. Aromas of sweet milk coffee, fruits, and rich earthy malts. Very nice. The taste is also very good; initially sweet nutty and malty chocolate flavors, later more of a bitter roasted and coffee flavor. Leaves very milky and creamy. A very nice creamy mouthfeel. Very nice overall.

Dark cola brown with decent clarity, tan creamy head and superb lacing.

Clean and nutty scent, pistachios? Faintly roasted with a light, leafy hop edge and some chocolate. Slightly floral...

Nice blend of juicy, green hops and roasted maltiness. Refreshing and very easy to drink session beer. Bittersweet baking cocoa...creamy with lively carbonation and light, crisp body. Very tasty with a nice European lager character and leafy hops...like a warm summer night.

Very affordable Saskatchewan brew...and so tasty. Will come back to this one a lot as I went through the six pack pretty fast.

Appearance: Dark brown appearance, very similar to cola. Pours with a small, rapidly fading head and just a touch of lacing.
Smell: Sweet chocolate and a nice roastiness. Slight off chemical smell, however.
Taste: The front is met with a rich chocolate flavour which builds and combines with coffee in the middle. The finish hits hard, with a combination of floral hops and deep roast.
Feel: Carbonation provides a nice crispness, without overpowering the flavour too much. Medium-bodied.
