Poured a 355-ml bottle into a long tulip glass.

Appearance - bright gold with foamy white head. Active carbonation highly visible.

Smell - very fresh pilsner aromas, light and lively hop scents as well as a hint of green apple.

Taste - malty crisp taste, reminds me a little of Pilsner Urquell and some other fire-brewed malt flavoured beers. Nice lasting finish of snappy hops.

Mouthfeel - fairly even flavours but not smooth. The front of the tongue bears the brunt of this concoction and the bitters are tart on the palate.

Drinkability - overall this is a pretty impressive beer. If it was just a little sweeter and bready it would be a close match for Pilsner Urquell. That's a compliment since P.U. is a world-class beer.

Pours light gold with around three fingers of off-white head. Aroma is biscuit malt and floral, spicy hops with a touch of citrus tang. Taste is surprisingly complex, a hops forward pils with Saaz spice but also some light grapefruit with a lingering bitter finish. A touch of white grape and sour candy. Nice oily mouthfeel. Really complex and interesting for a pils, almost ale-like in terms of fruity notes which presumably derive from the hops. Purists might quibble a bit but in my view this is what a good pils should involve: Obvious pale malt but also some hoppy punch to add nuance. Nice work and perhaps Paddock Wood's best along with Loki.

Poured from the bottle into a sam adams pint glass.

Creamy and three finger fluffy white head, good retention and staying power. Brassy yellow clear body, almost pale amber, with little rising carbonation at all.

Nose is mellow citrus lemon and lime. Some classic grass like hop, bakery bready malts and candy store almost minty fresh. Really nice.

Taste follows the nose and a wonderful balance. Good sweetness, matching citrus and candy grapefruit. A little bit of baby aspirin. Mouthfeel, is dense but little carbonation, good malt backbone coating. Grass angle seems lost but so much imteresting and nicer flavors I dont mind.

Overall, very memorable, very different for this style also, quite enjoying this, would love more.

Poured into a flared pilsner glass, with a big head of froth, which lingered, receding slowly, carbonation is initially quite lively, and remains quite strong. Colour is of a bright gold.

Nose is what I would expect of a pils, touch of crisp mineral smell.
Flavour is quite enjoyable. It has some nice balance here. It is quite refreshing and flavourful.
Mouthfeel is medium, with a good balance of bitterness. Goes down smoothly. Leaves a bit of a tongue-coating bitter finish.
Overall its an easy-drinking, flavoursome pilsner, without obvious flaws, refreshing and not over the top bitter. Enjoyed it.

355ml bottle poured into pint glass 9/10/11

A clear light yellow with lots of bubbles of all shapes, sizes and speeds feeding a short lived thumbs width of bone white foam that leaves lace where it existed

S zesty lemon with some hops and grainy sweetness

T nicely hopped with a floral aspect that works well for it, a little sweet but not a bad example of the style

M refreshing zip to it, I wouldn't say it finishes clean but the aftertaste is tame and just a little bite

O I like the hop profile of this one it works within the style, pretty good beer that would make a good session

I thought I'd reviewed this before but maybe not, this would go well with some summer sun but a chilly fall evening seems to work to

341ml bottle poured into a 16oz Pint glass.

A - Just under a finger-and-a-half of puffy white head. Glowing golden-yellow hue. Not much head retention. No lacing to speak of.

S - Tons of piney hops and sour lemon scent. Lots of bitter citric aroma here. A little floral, but pretty earthy as well. Grassy.

T - Citric zest and clean, piney hops. A little drying tart feel on the finish. Overall really clean and easy to drink. The zesty hops add a nice crisp feel. Grainy malt backbone sits underneath the bittering qualities.

M - Light but prickly carbonation. Pretty dry, hoppy finish. Clean and light body, but not too light.

D - Surprisingly bitter and hoppy. Admittedly I am pretty unfamiliar with Pilseners, and I've never tried any Czech Pilseners, but this was pretty good. A solid dryness and bitter feel in the finish. Overall, a clean and crisp brew with a simple but enjoyable flavor.

12oz Bottle

Appearance – Clear yellow colour with an average size fizzy white coloured head. There is a high amount of carbonation showing and there is a good amount of lacing. The head lasted for around 4 minutes before it was gone.

Smell - Grains, floral notes, hops, lemons, malts

Taste & Mouth - The beer has an average amount of carbonation. I can taste breads/grains mixed with light hops and a bit of a floral spiciness. When I had my first smell of the beer it reminded me a bit of a Prima Pils, but unfortunately it doesn't taste like it smells. Maybe I've just got an old bottle, but it has an odd musty taste to it. It finishes with bready slightly bitter aftertaste.

Overall – I'd really like to try this one on draft to see how it compares. It definitely has some promise.

An excellent Czech-style pilsner.

Cloudy straw gold with an overwhelming effervescence - different from my last bottle which was more reasonably carbonated . That variability is the only negative point towards this otherwise very well crafted beer.

Delightful hop aroma that really brings back Plzn memories. Well balanced and refreshing flavours including grain, bread and a hint of grassiness. The sweet finish has an underlying hop bitterness. Well done, Paddock Wood!
