We decided to hit Brewsters East for St. Patrick's Day since it had been a few years since any of us had been there. Generally, atleast in Regina, the quality of service, food and beer is the same at each Brewsters and this spot is least handy for us and has had the least impressive atmosphere. However, they did do renovations last summer, so let's see if it's an improvement or not.
Fairly standard pub style decor with a few tvs and plenty of beer signs and pictures. There are 2 levels to this bar, and the bottom is preferable because the service is better, however the upstairs is generally quieter. Fit and finish is better than in the past. The reno's didn't change the layout, but was more of a much needed face lift to one of the older brewpubs in the city. Parking isn't as good as at the other locations, but there still should be enough for everyone.
On this night I didn't try a wide variety of their beers, but they were all of good quality. I generally find that the beers at Brewsters are pretty good.
Service was pretty good, although we were upstairs for the better part of the evening and when it was busy around supper time there was a longer gap between waitress visits than I'd like, but later in the evening (after 7:30) things slowed down and the waitress was around alot. Only problem we had was when one of us ordered a black and tan, and another ordered a stout. The bartender didn't tell the waitress which was which and ran off to pour another order. She wasn't sure which was which and got them mixed up, but we straightened that out right away.
Selection isn't that great at Brewsters. Their own products cover a nice variety of styles, but other than that you can pretty much only get macros on draft and macros and macro imports in bottles. I believe there were only about 12-15 total brands available in bottle.
Everyone's food was very good, with one exception. One person ordered the Irish special dinner and wasn't impressed. I don't really hold it against the kitchen though, as I don't think that meal could have tasted any better than average regardless who made it.
All in all it was a positive experience and definitely the best brewpub on the east side of town. There are alot of hotels in the area, so if you're stuck out that way and don't want to take a cab all the way downtown, this is your best bet. That said, there are other Brewsters locations closer to me and/or my friends so we probably won't be back very often. There simply isn't enough difference between the 3 places to make you want to go to any one more or less than the others.
